Chapter 15: The Willing One Takes the Bait
Lu Cheng was immediately shocked.
Without even putting down his chopsticks, he hurriedly picked up Shi Yin's phone. He clicked on the message from the user named 'Jasmine' and zoomed in on the manuscript. Only then did he realize he had been a bit rash and added, "Miss Shi, is it okay for me to take a look at your message?"
Shi Yin shook her head: "It's okay."
Lu Cheng once again looked intently at the line drawing of the mermaid skirt on the screen and handed the phone to Han Zhan: "Zhan, do you think this is the skirt that Jin Baili is wearing?"
This is the evening dress that Shi designed for Jin Baili three months ago. The head of the creative team is Shi Qinghe. Because of this dress, she also topped the list of the youngest fashion designers in the country.
Designers will never send their hand-drawn line drawings to others.
It appeared in Shiyin's phone.
So--
A bold idea sprouted in Lu Cheng's mind. With this thought in mind, he turned his head and looked at Shi Yin across from him again. She sat upright, quietly and obediently, like a harmless rabbit.
The rumors about Shi Yin in the social circle were all based on a fortune teller's judgment of her, saying that she was unlucky and anyone who approached her would be implicated. Nothing else was mentioned, including her appearance, academic performance, and her abilities.
"Miss Shi, may I ask where you went to college?"
"Kyoto University." Shi Yin said frankly, "I was recommended to HU in my junior year and spent a year as an exchange student in Cambridge. I graduated from Kyoto University in June this year and started working at Shi's."
"Are you in Shi's?"
"Um."
"I've never heard of your position. I thought your sister was in charge of the Shi's Design Department."
"My sister is very capable, and my parents trust her more, so they gave her a senior management position. I'm quiet and unpopular, so it's normal that you don't know me."
"I definitely didn't mean that." Lu Cheng apologized.
Just then, Shi Yin's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID for "Jasmine," Lu Cheng quickly handed the phone back to her. Shi Yin took it, politely said hello, and stood up to answer the call on the balcony.
The woman's figure completely disappeared from the living room. Lu Cheng strode to Han Zhan's side and blurted out, "Could that fishtail dress for Jin Baili be designed by Shi Yin? Shi Qinghe used her name and stole her credit, just like your brother stole your financing plan back then—"
Hearing this.
Han Zhan's eyes darkened.
Knowing he had said the wrong thing, Lu Cheng stopped talking in time and changed his words: "If Shi Yin is really the designer of this dress, then you can easily fulfill Jin Baili's request. Take her to meet Jin Baili, and the ruby ring will be yours."
Just across the wall.
The sun rises slowly from the sea level.
The sea breeze was cool, but Shi Yin didn't feel it. Mo Li was on the other end of the line, "Yin Yin, I sent you the mermaid evening gown design at 8:30, just as you asked. I also called you at 8:35. Did you meet Ms. Jin Baili? Did she not believe you drew the design?"
“Not yet.”
"So what are you doing?"
"We should be able to see him tonight," Shi Yin said.
As she boarded the cruise ship, she was thinking about how to get a chance to meet Ms. Jin Baili. After all, she was a high-ranking senator from Country M, and it was too difficult to meet her. And what kind of encounter should she create to convince Jin Baili that she was the original designer of the dress, despite everyone's stereotype that Shi Qinghe was the main creator.
Half an hour ago, she entered the bathroom and heard Lu Cheng's voice. She opened the door a crack and, unbelievably, eavesdropped on Han Zhan and Lu Cheng's conversation. Knowing that Jin Baili was trying to find the designer of the mermaid dress through Han Zhan, she took advantage of his plan.
…
Shi Yin entered the living room.
Han Zhan was the only one in the huge room. Lu Cheng was nowhere to be found. She walked towards him and continued to sit in her previous dining chair. "Isn't Mr. Lu going to have breakfast?"
She and Han Zhan sat opposite each other.
There is an English-style table in the middle.
The man took a clean bowl, filled it with hot oatmeal, and handed it to Shi Yin. He opened his eyes and looked at her, his peach blossom eyes tender and gentle: "Why are you so concerned about Lu Cheng? Why don't you ask me if I'm full, my wife?"
Shi Yin: “…”
She half-lowered her head, reached out to take the porridge, and drank it mouthful after mouthful, but she didn't respond to Han Zhan's words. He chuckled a few times, stared at her for a long moment, and asked, "Your sister stole your fiancé and your blueprints?"
Hearing this, Shi Yin paused sipping her porridge. Almost immediately, she raised her eyes and fixed them on the person opposite her. Her lips pursed tightly, she remained silent. Han Zhan got his answer from the corners of her eyes, which were gradually turning red and moist.
"A rubbish man was robbed, so what? How can I give up my future and career?"
"I can't help it."
"No resistance?"
“…” Shi Yin was silent.
The room was quiet, and Han Zhan's eyes were fixed on her palm-sized face. As if recalling some past event, he lowered his head and took a deep breath. Looking up again, his handsome face once again wore his usual humorous and nonchalant smile. "I have a dinner date with Jin Baili tonight. You should come with me. Bring your drawings, and let your name be clearly written on your original work."
"My sister's reputation will be damaged and my dad will be very angry."
"Ever since your sister hooked up with your fiancé and tried to steal your girlfriend, she's ruined her own reputation. As for Chairman Shi, he's indeed partial to your sister." Han Zhan thought for half a second, raised an eyebrow, and said, "So what? Just make yourself happy."
Han Zhan stood up and left.
When I was almost at the door of the box, I heard a woman's small voice from behind: "Thank you."
Since registering their marriage, the word she'd said most to him was "thank you." Considering what had happened today, he couldn't help but think of all the oppression and marginalization she'd endured in the past. The most painful part wasn't the ridicule and mockery from others, but the way her own family had never treated her kindly.
Han Zhan paused, glanced at her porcelain-white, clean face, and said, "I'm after that ruby ring, so I'm not so kind as to help you specifically. But if you insist on thanking me, I can't help it. So, call me husband, please?"
