Chapter 20 Meeting the In-Laws
Meng Xi said nothing.
His hands clenched the corners of his clothes tighter.
She stared intently at the man in front of her who was rumored to have an unlucky fate and was disliked by everyone. He was so insignificant that everyone in the company only knew that Director Shi had an eldest daughter, but no one knew that he had a second daughter.
The moment Meng Xi saw Shi Yin in Jin Baili's suite, he had a vague feeling that something was wrong. The oppressed and ostracized Second Miss, always silent and reserved, was lurking in wait for her chance to turn the tide.
"According to seniority, I should call you Senior Sister," Shi Yin suddenly said. "During the year I was an exchange student at HU, my classmates often mentioned you, and the professor also exhibited your work from that year."
"You're truly remarkable. Despite growing up in an orphanage with limited educational resources, you were able to earn admission to Peking University through your own hard work. With straight A's in five subjects and a perfect GPA, you were given the opportunity to study abroad at HU. And every design you published during your time at HU was featured on the Fashion Week charts."
"You dropped out of school when you were accepted for postgraduate study. Instead of pursuing a career in design, you became Shi Qinghe's assistant. Seeing those dresses that should have been yours but were signed by Shi Qinghe and published in major magazines, you must have been very sad."
Meng Xi avoided her gaze.
No longer looking at each other.
She ran away very quickly, but Shi Yin still saw her slightly red eyes.
"I can stand before Jin Baili openly and take back the drawings that are rightfully mine, and in turn, all your works. Meng Xi, perhaps you could consider forming an alliance with me?"
Hearing this.
Meng Xi looked up in surprise.
Shi Yin's calm face was reflected in her narrowed black pupils. Beneath her fair, well-behaved face, a deep and ambitious heart was hidden. The Second Young Lady was a master negotiator, and every word she spoke stung Meng Xi deeply. Only original designers understand the pain of having their work stolen and given someone else's name; it's like having your own child stolen.
But she had no choice.
Meng Xi took a few deep breaths and took two steps back, putting some distance between himself and Shi Yin. "I'm sorry, Second Miss. I appreciate your kindness. The eldest lady treats me very well, and with my father's illness, I don't want any changes."
"My father is a country bumpkin with a low level of education. He has to take a lot of targeted drugs every day for treatment. If you need anything in the future, please contact me! I really can't bother you to condescend to visit him."
The nurse came running over at this moment.
After exchanging a few words with Meng Xi, the latter was very surprised. He bowed and gestured to Shi Yin, then sprinted towards the pharmacy. Shi Yin couldn't quite hear the conversation between the two, only hearing a few words, vaguely saying, "The special medicine has been delivered, and oncologist Dr. Lu has returned to the capital."
Shi Yin went downstairs.
Coming out of the elevator, I received a call from Han Zhan: "Where are you, wife?"
"Municipal People's Hospital."
"Going to visit your company's sick employee in the hospital again?"
"Um."
"My wife has a heart of a bodhisattva. If all the senior leaders in this world could care for their subordinates like you do, no one would be hungry or cold, because they would all be warmed by the love of their superiors."
Shi Yin: “…”
"What's the matter, Mr. Han?"
"Meet the parents-in-law, wife."
"Are we going to Han's house today?" Shi Yin was stunned, not prepared at all. As if sensing her awkwardness, Han Zhan smiled and said, "Don't be nervous, just go back and have a meal. I'll drive to the hospital to pick you up, and we'll go buy a new dress."
"Then I'll go back to Beishan Villa and put on some light makeup."
"Leave a way out for others, honey. You're already beautiful without makeup. If you put on makeup, not only people but also the flowers and fish in Han's house will be stunned. Be good and find a warm place to stay. I'll call you when your husband arrives."
Shi Yin: “…”
Ten minutes later, Shi Yin saw Han Zhan's car.
He took her to a private styling studio and picked out a slim-fitting long dress in a lotus-pink color. Shi Yin changed on the second floor, and the stylist simply combed her hair, not styling it, but leaving her long black hair loose and tying a MIUMIU pearl hairpin in her ear.
Shi Yin walked down the stairs.
When he arrived at the first floor lobby, Han Zhan was chatting with the owner of the styling studio. The two seemed to have a good relationship, talking and laughing. He caught a glimpse of her figure from the corner of his eye, turned his head, and said, "This is the first time I've seen a girl who looks so beautiful in a simple long dress."
"Second Young Master is blessed."
"Yes, the ancestors' graves are smoking." Han Zhan smiled and walked towards Shi Yin. He naturally took her hand and said goodbye to the boss of the styling studio: "I'm leaving now."
Han's house is located in the villa area in the north of the city.
After driving for about twenty minutes, we arrived at the tree-lined avenue outside the hospital.
Looking at the expensive luxury cars that were parked one after another, Han Zhan chuckled twice: "Wife, you are so lucky. My parents must have posted the news of my marriage in the family group, and a group of people came to see you."
"Should I prepare anything in advance?"
For example, calling someone.
There will be a room full of relatives and she won’t be able to call out to any of them.
Han Zhan told her to relax, as he didn't know many people there. He reached for her bag in the back seat, but then felt it was too small, so he swapped it for an Hermès basket. He placed the bag in her arms and earnestly instructed her, "Nod when I ask you questions. Otherwise, just sit next to me and hold out your hand for the red envelope."
Shi Yin nodded: "I understand."
As the two men conversed, a group of people emerged from the mansion's gate, led by Han's mother, Ms. Bai. They excitedly rushed out, eager to see their daughter-in-law. Who on earth could this person be, someone who could make Han Zhan, the troublemaker, settle down and return to his family?
How much I look forward to this moment.
When they saw Shi Yin's face half a minute later, everyone was shocked. In that instant, their smiles and excitement disappeared. The expressions on everyone's faces were like a nine-square color palette, and they all turned to look at Ms. Bai in the front.
Han Zhan actually married Shi Yin.
Not to mention that the second daughter of the Shi family is engaged to Song Sinian, the eldest son of the Song family, let's just talk about her. She is a disaster star known to everyone in the circle, and is despised wherever she goes. How can he marry her? Is Han Zhan crazy?
…
The butler brought two cups of hot tea and placed them in front of Shi Yin and Han Zhan.
The hall was packed but extremely quiet.
No one spoke.
The breathing sounds are very quiet.
The only sound I could hear was the crackling of the fireplace in the corner.
The Han couple, sitting in the central host seat, forced a smile. Ms. Bai raised the corners of her lips with a forced smile, stood up and walked towards Shi Yin: "Yin, Yin Yin, since this is your first visit, I've prepared a small gift for you. Can you go upstairs and get it?"
Shi Yin tilted her head to look at Han Zhan.
Seeing him nod, she put down her bag, stood up, and went upstairs with Ms. Bai. As the two walked away, there was a murmur of whispers in the hall. Being judged by more than a dozen pairs of eyes, Han Zhan sat there drinking tea as if nothing had happened. Someone really couldn't stand his behavior and scolded him, "No matter what, you can't marry Shi Yin!"
Han Zhan opened his eyes, looked at the person who was speaking, and smiled: "Second uncle has a crush on Shi Yin?"
"What nonsense are you talking about!"
"If you're not secretly in love with her and want to keep her for yourself, then why are you so anxious for me to marry her?"
"Han Zhan, you are totally disrespectful to your elders!"
The middle-aged man slammed the table in anger and stood up suddenly. Seeing his face flushed with anger, Han Zhan slowly put down his teacup and said, "I was just joking with you. How can you be so petty at your age? You shouldn't have such big mood swings when you're older. Be careful not to get high blood pressure and close your eyes to see my grandma."
