Chapter 26 Watching the First Snow Together

Chapter 26 Watching the First Snow Together

Meng Xi fell slowly.

Curled up in the corner of the wall, hugging his knees with his arms.

She buried her face in her body and cried quietly.

From Shi Yin's perspective, she could see her slightly trembling shoulders and hear the sobs she tried to suppress but couldn't hold back. Shi Yin bent down, squatted in front of her, and said forcefully, "If I can help you get Dr. Lu?"

Hearing this, Meng Xi was stunned for a moment.

She raised her head.

She looked up with her red eyes wet with tears, and the dazzling light fell into her eyes. She immediately saw Shi Yin's face in the light and shadow, which became clear from blurry.

In the end, Meng Xi did not go to the hall to see Professor Pei.

She left through the back door.

The online taxi with its hazard lights on was waiting by the roadside. Shi Yin walked her to the door and asked, "Didn't you see Professor Pei?"

Meng Xi shook his head and said, "I hope I can stand before my teacher with an upright identity as a designer and use my actual achievements to prove to her that her efforts in me were not in vain."

Instead of Shi Qinghe's assistant.

A mediocre person whose name is unknown to anyone.

As a fellow designer, having climbed the career ladder through tireless effort, Shi Yin could empathize with him. She nodded in understanding, "I'll show my sincerity and invite Dr. Lu to your father's ward within a week."

The car drove away from Qinhuanglou Restaurant.

Watching the taillights disappear onto the deserted asphalt road, Shi Yin withdrew her gaze. As she turned, she saw a familiar figure. Han Zhan was standing on the third-floor balcony, facing her. He must have been there for a while. When Shi Yin looked at him, he had already been staring at her for a long time.

It's snowing.

The cold wind blew the falling white snow, which floated down from the darkness, landing on Shi Yin's shoulders, her face, and also in her and Han Zhan's intertwined sight.

Han Zhan came here for a social event.

See investors.

He asked Lu Cheng to book a restaurant, but to save money, he'd booked it in the remote northern suburbs, a place so deserted it was barely a car. He asked if the Lu family was going bankrupt, and he said no, it was because Lu's father had ended his cancer cell research project and returned to Beijing, canceling all his credit cards, leaving him broke.

At first, Han Zhan was a little annoyed.

It wasn't until the Qinhuanglou restaurant downstairs was fully booked and a huge crowd arrived that he spotted his wife. He hadn't seen her for a few days, and today she was dressed simply, yet exuding the youthful air of a university student. She was fair-skinned, well-behaved, and quiet, standing there like a soft marshmallow—quite adorable.

He came to the balcony a few minutes ago to sober up.

As luck would have it, he saw Shi Yin again. This time, there wasn't just her, there was another face as well. Han Zhan had actually seen that woman before; she was Shi Qinghe's personal assistant.

"Why didn't you tell your husband that you were coming to the northern suburbs?"

"I'm afraid to disturb you."

"Is it cold?"

"A little."

"Why don't you wear more clothes when you go out?" Han Zhan spread out his coat and wrapped it around her. Outside the eaves, heavy snow fell, and a thin layer of snow had already formed on the ground.

Shi Yin looked at the falling snow.

She stretched out her hand.

He held his palms up and caught a few snowflakes.

Han Zhan looked at the thing that instantly melted into water in her hand and smiled, "I heard that if two people watch the first snow together, they will be together for life and grow old together."

Shi Yin suddenly looked up at him.

Her beautiful eyes opened slightly.

"Why, do you feel wronged about spending the rest of your life with me?" Han Zhan was amused by her.

"I didn't mean that." Shi Yin defended.

The two stood side by side for a while. People came and went at the door, and the rustling noise filled the lonely snowy night. Han Zhan looked at her and suddenly asked, "When did you become so close to your sister's assistant?"

He said with a smile.

His face still had the same cynical expression as usual.

Shi Yin stared intently into his inky eyes for a moment. Behind those peach blossom eyes, which looked at everything with deep affection, lay a deep, cold abyss that others could not see. He was not as kind and benevolent as he seemed, nor was he as simple-minded and unsuccessful as the rumors said.

She is pretending.

Isn't he acting?

Shi Yin, with her naturally well-behaved face, replied in his favorite way: "HU alumni dinner. Meng Xi and I both studied abroad there, so we are considered sisters from the same department. We met at dinner today and said hello out of courtesy."

"I walked her out to the car to show my goodwill. My dad asked my sister and I to jointly take charge of the New Year project. This is my first opportunity after my promotion. If the completion rate is too poor, I won't be able to stay at Shi's anymore."

"Did you bribe her?" Han Zhan asked.

"A little bit." Shi Yin replied.

"Do you really want to gain a foothold in the Shi family?"

"I need to stand out, at least let the public know I exist. This is not only for myself, but also to protect each of my designs." Shi Yin paused for half a second, looked at him, and said, "What happened to Jin Baili once will happen again. I can be bullied, but my works cannot."

The smile on Han Zhan's face faded a little.

In the light of the lamp, he looked down at the woman's porcelain-white face. The wind was cold outside, and the tip of her nose was red from the cold. He didn't know what he remembered, but he got lost in her eyes and was absent-minded for a long time.

Han Zhan withdrew his gaze, raised his hand to brush the snowflakes from her hair, and turned into his frivolous playboy look again: "When are you planning to go home?"

"I had dinner and left."

"Wait for me."

"Um."

She is a person who keeps her word.

What you promise will be done.

The HU alumni dinner ended at 7 p.m., and Han Zhan, sitting in a private room on the third floor, heard the group leave. His own dinner ended around 9 p.m., and after seeing off the investors who had signed the contract, he went downstairs and didn't see her Porsche Macan in the large area outside Qinhuanglou Restaurant.

I thought she left because she waited too long.

Never thought.

I saw her as I turned the corner.

The first-floor lobby was deserted; all the diners had left. From Han Zhan's perspective, he could see Shi Yin, a thin figure, sitting alone on a small sofa. She wasn't on her phone, her chin resting on her hand, staring at the snow outside, then watching the random cartoons playing in the restaurant.

Don't be anxious.

There is no impatience at all.

She just waited there obediently, like a quiet porcelain doll. Han Zhan walked towards her, put his arm around her shoulders from behind, and pulled her up from the sofa: "Go home, my wife."
