Chapter 7: Protecting the Husband is What He Should Do
There was complete silence at the table.
The air pressure was so low that one could hear the sound of the wine stains on Cheng Qing's face dripping onto the tile floor.
Lu Cheng glanced at Han Zhan as he walked away. Still in shock, he went forward to pick up Han Zhan's suit jacket on the sofa. As he left, he patted Cheng Qing on the shoulder and advised, "Zhan is just like that. Don't take it to heart. Don't let this little thing tonight ruin the long-standing business partnership between the Han and Cheng families. We'll be leaving first. Excuse me, you guys continue to have fun."
After Lu Cheng finished speaking, he left in a hurry.
Disappeared in the noisy dinner hall.
After Han Zhan's figure completely disappeared, everyone in the seats finally relaxed their nerves. Someone stood up and walked over to Cheng Qing, helping him up. Their eyes fell on the watch in the man's hand, and they asked in confusion, "Mr. Cheng, are you really keeping Han Zhan's watch?"
Han threw his watch on the ground.
Let the other person pick it up.
This was clearly an insult to Cheng Qing, like sending away a beggar. These young men in the Beijing circle, born with silver spoons in their mouths, were all self-important and respected wherever they went. Who would dare to step on their spines and suppress them like this?
Cheng Qing glared at the person who spoke: "How dare I refuse?"
If it were anyone else, Cheng Qing would not bow his head and apologize. Even if Han Zheng, the eldest son of the Han family who is now famous in the business circle, came, he would not squat down to pick up the watch.
Han Zhan is different.
This guy doesn't care about his life.
If others would take into account family ties and the face of their elders, say polite words and follow the rules, and turn a blind eye when they can, then Han Zhan would just hold on to it and would not let go until he had vented his anger.
His brother Han Zheng is an elegant businessman with both good image and temperament.
Han Zhan is a brutal gangster.
He was not afraid of offending people, nor was he afraid of being expelled from the Han family. He had been adhering to the principle of "doing it even if it costs him his life", and even the most arrogant and domineering people had to politely bow and say "Young Master Han" in front of Han Zhan.
Who dares to offend him?
Don’t want to live anymore?
Cheng Qing was helped to the sofa, wiped the blood from his forehead, and accepted it. It was his own fault for being so careless. He hadn't heeded Lu Cheng's repeated warnings, and continued to play fast and loose with Han Zhan. It was all thanks to this large gathering at the dinner. If it were somewhere else, he wouldn't have dared to think about whether he could return to the Cheng family with all his limbs intact.
"This is the first time I've seen Young Master Han lose his temper."
"Yes, Han Zhan is a playboy with a long history of bad deeds, but every time I meet him, I always find him nice and easy to talk to. He suddenly attacked me tonight, and it scared me."
"Because he looks friendly and easy to talk to, people have the illusion that he is kind."
"It seems that he still cares about Shi Yin?"
"Isn't that pure nonsense? They're a legal couple now that they've obtained their marriage certificate. They share the same fate. Any man with a bit of backbone wouldn't tolerate someone insulting his wife in front of her husband."
"Keep your mouth shut from now on, and avoid mentioning words like Shi Yin and bad luck. You can make fun of the unfavored Second Miss of the Shi family without restraint, but you can't say that to Han Zhan's wife."
-
It rained a little during the night.
It's very cold.
Lu Cheng quickly ran out of the manor gate and caught up with Han Zhan at the entrance of the boulevard. He grabbed his friend's arm, glanced at his face, which was even colder than Han Ye's, and changed the subject: "Um, are we going home now?"
Before he finished speaking.
A hairy Samoyed suddenly rushed out from somewhere, broke free from the leash and ran away frantically, jumping over the wooden fence from the backyard lawn, and was caught by its owner when it was a few steps away from Han Zhan.
The owner apologized a few words and left, grabbing the dog's ears.
Looking at the back of the big, solid dog, Lu Cheng tilted his head to look at the person next to him and said, "It seems to be about the same size as Ah Xiu. By the way, you took Ah Xiu to the veterinary hospital for a physical examination a few days ago. Has he returned yet?"
Hearing this, Han Zhan's brows furrowed slightly, as if he had thought of something. He took his suit jacket from Lu Cheng's hand and strode towards the tree-lined avenue. When Lu Cheng reacted and looked over, he only saw the silhouette of the 911 supercar roaring away.
So eager.
Where are you going?
…
Han Zhan rushed back to Beishan Villa as quickly as possible.
The car stopped.
Without even locking the car door, he stepped over the muddy ground and slowly headed into the yard. The maid ran up to greet him with a smile, but before she could say anything, she heard the man's stern voice ask, "Did you send Ah Xiu back today?"
"Sir, Ashita—"
"Where is Shi Yin?"
He wasn't as gentle and friendly as usual. His stern face didn't even have a smile, and his words were even more oppressive. The maid was stunned, opening her mouth several times but no words came out.
Just then, a loud noise of a flower stand collapsing could be heard from the direction of the back lake. Han Zhan strode over at the sound. The maid, still unaccustomed to the host's indifferent attitude, took several seconds to catch up.
But the man's steps were too big.
She couldn't catch up even if she ran.
The butler had mentioned Ah Xiu's origins. He had found him in a deserted building that had been ravaged by war while traveling abroad a few years ago. He was a beast dog bred by international peacekeeping forces for use in war.
It is his nature to attack.
Cruelty is in his blood.
That's why Han Zhan rushed back the moment he remembered that the veterinary hospital had sent Ah Xiu back today. Shi Yin looked so frail and had such a small courage that even hearing Ah Xiu barking would probably scare her to death, let alone facing him.
He didn't want to be a widower.
It's too bad to be widowed just after getting married.
The development was unexpected. Han Zhan rushed to the backyard, but before he reached the lake, he saw Shi Yin standing under the osmanthus tree in the distance. Ah Xiu sat on the lawn half a meter away from her. The sturdy wolfhound was not as ferocious as usual. It had lowered its guard and defensiveness, put away its hostility and cruelty, and looked at Shi Yin with its head held high, its expression respectful and pious.
Han Zhan frowned.
Everyone around was also puzzled.
Even experienced animal trainers couldn't tame this military dog and make it obedient. What method did Shi Yin use to make the beast that was about to pounce on her suddenly retract its claws and lose its aggressiveness?
The lake was stirred by the wind.
Shi Yin stood still, clutching her phone, which had finished playing music. She remained calm, took the leash from the housekeeper, and slowly walked closer to the wolfhound. She tentatively looped the leash around its thick neck, slowly tightening it. Seeing it didn't resist, she patted its head as a reward. "Ah Xiu?"
The wolfhound raised its head.
Shi Yin's gentle face was reflected in the black eyes.
It stared at her for a long moment, then stood up, wagged its tail at her, and then, guided by the housekeeper, headed back to its den in the back lake. Shi Yin stared at its retreating figure for a long moment, then withdrew her gaze, brushed off the dirt on her dress, and was about to return to the house when, the moment she turned around, her eyes caught sight of Han Zhan at the courtyard gate.
