Chapter 3 The elders in the family urged me to have a second child
The next morning!
A call came into Cheng Qian's cell phone.
It was Mrs. Li, her mother-in-law. Knowing that she had returned to China, she wanted her and Li Zhinan to take the children back there for lunch.
Li Zhinan went to the company early in the morning and called Cheng Qian around ten o'clock in the afternoon.
"I'll ask the driver to pick you and Ono up."
Cheng Qian said, "Don't bother. I'll take Aunt Liu there and drive myself."
"Okay!" The man hung up the phone.
Cheng Qian brought her son to the Li family's old house, which was already bustling with activity.
Li Zhinan has a younger brother who is married and recently gave birth to a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, who are just six months old.
When Cheng Qian brought her son in, she happened to meet her brother's sister-in-law Xia Mengjiao, who was a popular actress.
"Sister-in-law is here? Xiaoye has gained weight again." Xia Mengjiao took the initiative to greet her with a smile, looking very friendly.
Cheng Qian knew that these were just superficial appearances. They married into the Li family one after another and were always competing with each other, comparing wedding dresses, wedding banquets, gifts, and who could please the elders more.
When Cheng Qian just gave birth to her son, Xia Mengjiao was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, and she wished she could give birth to a pair as soon as possible.
In the past two years, she has endured the pain of artificial insemination and finally welcomed a pair of beautiful twins, a boy and a girl.
She didn't win in time, but she won in numbers.
Cheng Qian gave red envelopes to the two children.
"Sister-in-law, you are so polite." Xia Mengjiao took it with a smile.
Cheng Qian held her son Xiaoye in her arms, greeted the old lady and several elders, then sat on the sofa and gave her son some fruit.
The old lady was not happy about Cheng Qian's ten months of studying abroad, so she said, "Xiao Qian, Xiao Ye is still young. Don't go out for so long in the future. This is not what a qualified mother should do."
Cheng Qian also knew that she shouldn't abandon her child, but some experiments couldn't be carried out in China and could only be conducted abroad. She didn't dare to refute and only whispered, "Yes, I will reduce my overseas trips in the future."
Xia Mengjiao smiled and praised: "Sister-in-law is young, but she is already an elite in scientific research. She is really a role model for women. If she achieves success in the future, we will also benefit from it."
Cheng Qian has never advertised her career and has always been very low-key.
The old lady looked unhappy: "Women should still focus on their families and careers. Showing off is a man's job."
Xia Mengjiao was speechless for a moment. As a female star, she had to go out every year to take on acting roles and commercial performances, and all she did was show off.
Li Zhinan is here!
He was wearing a high-end business suit, white shirt and black tie, looking formal and rigorous, with an ascetic temperament.
Xia Mengjiao has always envied Cheng Qian for being able to marry the person in charge of the Li family. When she saw Li Zhinan walking in, a flash of jealousy flashed in her eyes.
Li Zhinan walked in, said hello, and then walked over to Cheng Qian: "I'll take Xiaoye out to see the animals."
When Cheng Qian handed the child to him, he was bending down to hold the child.
As they got closer, Cheng Qian smelled a faint rose fragrance coming from him.
Cheng Qian felt a pang in her heart.
After Li's mother finished explaining the matters in the kitchen, she came to talk to Cheng Qian.
In the Li family, Li's mother Jiang Meng is the only person who treats Cheng Qian well. Cheng Qian's father has rescued her family, and Cheng Qian's mother is also Jiang Meng's good friend.
"Xiao Qian, come upstairs with me."
Cheng Qian stood up: "Okay, Mom!"
Looking at the two figures going up the stairs, Xia Mengjiao silently expressed her dissatisfaction, then turned around and scolded the confinement nanny for holding the baby too roughly.
In the bedroom on the second floor, Jiang Meng looked at Cheng Qian: "You've lost weight again. Didn't you eat well abroad?"
Cheng Qian's eyes were sore, and she smiled and said, "Yes, but the lab is too busy, so I have to stay up late."
Jiang Meng sighed: "You are just like your parents. Once you get involved in work, you devote yourself to it. I believe that your future achievements will surpass theirs."
Cheng Qian said modestly: "I just want to catch up with them."
"Have you seen the news? Zhinan invested in your uncle's company. Don't blame him. He wants to develop a drug to treat cystic fibrosis as soon as possible to help Xiaowei live a normal life. Three months ago, Xiaowei used a drug provided by your uncle's company, and his lung infection was temporarily suppressed, and he was able to take off the ventilator. Zhinan saw hope."
When Jiang Meng said this, her eyes turned red and she felt extremely distressed.
Everyone only knew that the Li family had two sons, but they didn't know that they also had a younger son who suffered from a genetic disease. He had been ill since he was seven years old and was now sixteen years old, and he was still lying in the hospital receiving various treatments.
This son was born when Jiang Meng was 38 years old, and she pinned all her longing for her late husband on him. However, she never expected that Li Zhiwei, who was born with hope, had a genetic problem.
Cheng Qian was a little surprised. She had studied this kind of medicine before, but failed many times.
Unexpectedly, my uncle's biological company has made a breakthrough in this area.
"Mom, if they really have the ability to save Xiaowei, the Li family's investment is right and can bring hope to thousands of patients." Cheng Qian finally learned the reason.
Jiang Meng sighed softly: "Xiao Qian, I know you are working hard, but the problems in medicine cannot be solved overnight."
"Mom, is Xiaowei feeling better now?" Cheng Qian asked with concern.
"He's much better and has gained some weight," Jiang Meng said with relief.
Seeing that Jiang Meng was relieved because her youngest son's condition had improved, Cheng Qian hesitated to speak.
Li Zhinan invested in his uncle's company. I think there is another hidden reason. I wonder if my mother-in-law knows about it.
At lunch time, at the long table, the old lady was urging the baby to give birth as usual.
"Zhi Nan, Xiao Qian has returned to China. You should hurry up and put the second child on the agenda. Look at your brother, he gave birth to two children in one pregnancy."
"As the eldest brother, you can't fall behind."
Li Zhishi was devoted to music and had a simple personality. He smiled and said, "Grandma, when it comes to having children, what's the point of comparing them? If my eldest brother and his wife wanted to have one a year, it wouldn't be a problem."
The old lady stared at him, asking him to shut up, and looked at Cheng Qian: "And you, a woman should take care of housework. Look at your mother-in-law. Although your father-in-law passed away many years ago, she has managed the house in an orderly manner. You should learn from her."
Jiang Meng said softly: "Mom, Xiao Qian is different from me. She can achieve success in her career, which is also a kind of success."
"Since ancient times, men have ruled the sky and women have been the mother of the earth. This reversal of heaven and earth and the disharmony of yin and yang may not be a good thing." The old lady said majestically.
Cheng Qian glanced at Li Zhinan.
Li Zhinan nodded to the old lady and said, "Don't worry, grandma. We will work hard."
Cheng Qian wanted to laugh when she heard this. He wanted to work hard, but not with her.
…
After lunch, Li Zhinan left the villa on the pretext of work.
Cheng Qian also received a call from the laboratory and had work to do.
She looked at her son in her arms, sighed softly, and could only hand him over to the confinement nanny to take him back to the villa.
In the laboratory, Cheng Qian was examining the cause of the failure of a drug. Wearing a sterile suit, she looked serious.
She quickly discovered that the change in pH was caused by temperature, and the pharmacist was so scared that he quickly apologized.
Cheng Qian personally called her subordinates together. Because of this incident, she emphasized the importance of temperature and environment.
When it was dark, Cheng Qian hurried back home.
As soon as I stepped into the house, I heard my son's laughter coming from the backyard.
Cheng Qian went over to the source of the sound and saw Cheng Yan squatting on the floor in the sunroom in the backyard, playing with a kitten with a feather.
Ono next to him clapped his hands happily, immersed in it.
"Come, Xiaoye, take it and play with it. It's very smart." Cheng Yan gently handed the small pole to the child.
Xiao Ye immediately took it to play with it, but the kitten suddenly jumped and almost pounced on him. He was so scared that he quickly threw himself into Cheng Yan's arms and said, "Mom, I'm scared, hug me."
Cheng Yan smiled and gently picked him up.
There was a sound of turning pages next to her, and Cheng Qian, who was outside the door, discovered that Li Zhinan was reading a book on the sofa in the sunroom.
He actually just watched and did nothing to stop his son from calling another woman "Mom".
Cheng Qian no longer endured it and pushed the door open and walked in.
When Cheng Yan heard the door open, she was startled and a hint of surprise flashed across her beautiful face.
The next second, she immediately whispered, "Cousin...cousin!"
Cheng Qian walked over and took Xiaoye away from her arms, but Xiaoye stretched out his hands and cried, "Mom, hold me... I don't want to leave you."
Cheng Qian's heart felt like it was being stabbed by a knife. She gently comforted him, "Xiao Ye, I am the mother, not her."
"You are not... Let me go, I want my mother." Xiao Ye cried until tears fell.
Cheng Yan's pretty face showed some innocence and helplessness. She looked at the man sitting on the sofa next to her in panic: "Zhi Nan, explain this to your cousin."
Li Zhinan closed the book and glanced at Cheng Qian calmly: "There's nothing to explain. If she had spent more time with the children, this wouldn't have happened."
Cheng Qian's face froze.
Cheng Yan came over gently and explained to Cheng Qian: "Cousin, don't get me wrong, I didn't ask Xiao Ye to call me mom. He might have heard other children calling me mom, so he did that."
Cheng Qian sneered: "He is young and naive, but you are also naive? He yells and you answer?"
Cheng Yan's expression froze, and she immediately looked at Li Zhinan aggrievedly: "Cousin, you must have misunderstood."
Li Zhinan lowered his voice and said to Cheng Qian, "I've invited some important guests to dinner tonight, so don't cause trouble."
As they were talking, the sound of a car stalling was heard in the yard again.
Cheng Yan's face showed joy, and she turned around and walked out gently: "They are here."
Cheng Qian was about to go upstairs from the backyard with her son in her arms when she saw several tall and handsome figures walking in from the living room door.
They are all Li Zhinan’s good friends in the circle. Some are childhood playmates, some are partners, and they are of similar age.
Cheng Yan is very familiar with Li Zhinan's friends. In comparison, Cheng Qian has almost no topics to talk about with them.
Cheng Qian carried her son upstairs. The little guy cried aggrievedly and kept hitting Cheng Qian's arm with his little fist: "Put me down, I want to find my mother."
