Chapter 40 Do we have to divorce?
Li Zhinan smiled faintly and said, "Mom, have you heard any rumors? If it's a rumor, it must be false."
"I don't care whether you are real or fake. Xiao Qian is a woman with a delicate and sensitive mind. Although you have work dealings with Miss Cheng, it's not good to get too close." Jiang Meng reminded seriously.
Li Zhinan glanced towards the yard. Did Cheng Qian say something behind his back?
Did she tell her own story?
"Mom, I'm an adult now. I know what propriety is. What I'm afraid of is that... some people don't understand." Li Zhinan only reveals a hint of childishness in front of his mother.
Jiang Meng was not stupid, she understood immediately. She looked surprised and said, "Zhi Nan, what do you mean by that?"
Li Zhinan's expression turned cold, and he said calmly, "Mom, you've figured out that Cheng Qian doesn't love me, right?"
"She doesn't love you?" Jiang Meng was shocked: "I think she has feelings for you."
Li Zhinan curled his lips in disapproval: "Mom, that must be your illusion."
Jiang Meng's heart ached instantly. She put her hands on her chest and said, "Don't tell me that you haven't developed any feelings for each other after four years of marriage."
Seeing that his mother seemed to find it difficult to accept this fact, Li Zhinan had no choice but to stop talking about it.
"Mom, I have to warn you first, if I divorce her..."
"Do we have to divorce?" Jiang Meng sighed softly: "Alas, what a sin."
What Li Zhinan wanted to say was interrupted by Xiao Ye running in.
"Dad, there is a big caterpillar. Come and take a look." Xiao Ye pulled one of his fingers and dragged him out.
Li Zhinan had no choice but to accompany his son outside the yard.
It was only then that I realized that Cheng Qian was standing next to the swing set and making a phone call, and the caterpillar was discovered by my son alone.
When Cheng Qian saw him coming, she walked further away, as if she was afraid that he would hear what they were talking about.
The man's face was as gloomy as water, covered with a hint of frost.
"Dad, put it in a bottle...and it will turn into a butterfly." The little guy said happily.
"If he can't pretend, just let him transform into a butterfly in the yard." Li Zhinan chuckled.
"But I want to pack it up and take it with me to sleep at night. What if it turns into a butterfly at night?" Ono tilted his head and began to think.
Li Zhinan felt a chill. The little guy wanted to sleep with a caterpillar?
"It's going to run away, Dad, catch it quickly." Xiao Ye stamped his feet anxiously.
"How do I catch it?" Li Zhinan looked confused.
"Use your hand, hurry up...if it runs away, we can't find it." Ono pushed his arm.
Li Zhinan's fingers were stiff. He didn't dare to touch this soft little life.
Cheng Qian was talking to Qiao Sishuang on the phone. She had originally scheduled classes for the morning, and she wanted Qiao Silin to go there first so that she would be free in the afternoon.
Cheng Qian had just finished a phone call when she heard her son crying sadly. The little guy clenched his fists, stamped his feet and cried.
Cheng Qian thought something had happened and walked over quickly.
"Dad is so useless. He let the caterpillar go..."
This was Li Zhinan's first time being a father, and he had never expected that one day he would be useless in front of his son.
Cheng Qian held her son and coaxed him for a long time. Li Zhinan stood beside him with a stiff face and wanted to coax him, but the little guy didn't want to pay any attention to him.
Li Zhinan finally realized that children really cannot be reasoned with.
After lunch, Cheng Qian drove out.
While her Mercedes was waiting at a traffic light, a silver Bentley stopped next to her.
She caught a glimpse of Li Zhinan making a phone call using Bluetooth. As soon as the green light came on, his car rushed out, and soon he was separated by the traffic.
There seemed to be a hole in Cheng Qian's heart, and bitterness spread out.
She began to be afraid to admit the fact that she had once loved him.
In a conference room at the Seed Research Institute, Cheng Qian walked in with information.
As soon as the young girl appeared on the stage, she was met with a lot of questioning looks.
Cheng Qian's clear and pleasant voice rang out: "Hello everyone, I'm Cheng Qian. Today I will be teaching you a course on gene mutation and immunotherapy."
With Cheng Qian's rigorous academic analysis and discussion, the doubts in everyone's eyes gradually dissipated.
Cheng Qian finished the three-hour course in one breath. When she lowered her head to organize the materials, someone suddenly handed her a bottle of water.
"I just listened to your class outside the door. It was very good." Qiao Silin praised softly.
Cheng Qian took his water and said with a smile, "Thank you, why don't you come in and sit down?"
Qiao Silin said with a dry humor: "I'm afraid that if I sit here, you will feel pressured."
Cheng Qian was amused by him: "It really does happen. I want to listen to Dr. Qiao's class someday. It will definitely benefit me for the rest of my life."
Qiao Silin lazily leaned on the table and said, "What does Teacher Cheng want to hear about? I will tell you everything I know."
Cheng Qian was startled and glanced at the time: "I have to leave. I have a flight tonight."
"Are you going to the airport?" Qiao Silin was startled. "Do you want me to take you there? It's just right. I need to pick someone up at the airport."
Cheng Qian didn't expect it to be such a coincidence. It was already time to get off work, so it would be difficult to get a taxi.
Adding the traffic jam on the road, it is really difficult to catch the 7:30 flight.
"Then please give me a ride, Dr. Qiao." Cheng Qian went home and packed her luggage before coming to class.
"It's just on the way." Qiao Silin smiled politely.
Along the way, the two of them had a lot to talk about, and they chatted all the way to the airport gate.
"I'm here, thank you Dr. Qiao." Cheng Qian pushed the door and got out of the car, saying gratefully.
Qiao Silin looked at her sideways, waved his hand, and the car drove away.
Cheng Qian was carrying her luggage to go in and get her ticket when she saw a tall figure standing by the door.
Li Zhinan stood there with his trusted assistant Wang Rui.
"Madam, please give me the luggage." Wang Rui hurried forward and offered to help with a smile.
"No, thank you." Cheng Qian felt sorry to trouble others.
Li Zhinan said coldly, "Let's go."
Wang Rui hurried in carrying two large bags, and Cheng Qian sighed.
I don’t know why my mother-in-law arranged it this way, but it always feels like she did it on purpose.
After picking up the plane ticket, Cheng Qian went to the VIP waiting room, took out her laptop, and sat on the sofa to work.
Li Zhinan sat at a distance with his eyes closed to rest.
Wang Rui brought them a cup of coffee, then sat beside them and opened the itinerary.
I don’t know if it was his illusion, but the couple had been living their own lives and didn’t even have the most basic communication.
It was time to board the plane. Li Zhinan and Cheng Qian sat next to each other in the first class cabin, while Wang Rui sat in the economy class.
The cabin was well heated. Li Zhinan took off his coat and glanced sideways at Cheng Qian.
Cheng Qian has put on an eye mask and started to catch up on her sleep.
Silence is spreading.
Li Zhinan stared at the ceiling above his head, and some images flashed through his mind.
I remember it was raining heavily on the day Xiaoye was born. At ten o'clock in the evening, Cheng Qian had abdominal pain.
He was in a meeting at the company at the time, and Cheng Qian hadn't let anyone notify him. When he received the call and rushed to the hospital, he happened to see the nurse holding the baby out and congratulating him: "It's a little master."
