Chapter 13 The Lady of the Marquis is Punished

Marquis Zhongyong reached out his hand to him, "Give me a hand."

He can't get up.

Xie Tingzhou frowned and pulled the person out of the chair.

In a rare display of kindness, he even helped Marquis Zhongyong pull Xie Yunzhou's clothes down a bit.

Lady Hou ordered someone to clean Xie Yunzhou's body, but they couldn't remove the ambiguous bruises.

Marquis Zhongyong was almost old enough to be a grandfather, and just by looking at the bruises, he could tell what had happened.

He closed his eyes. "I always thought he was a good boy, and I once felt guilty for neglecting my second son because I kept my eldest son by my side."

The man is away from home most of the year, while the woman stays at home to take care of the whole family. It is not easy for her, but she never complains and is always considerate.

I thought to myself, since I've married her, I should trust her completely..."

"Fortunately, you're not confused when it comes to war. But should we take another look at his mistress?"

The Marquis of Zhongyong's low spirits were largely dispelled. "Don't you know what it means to be considerate and comfort an old man?"

They deliberately stabbed him in the back.

Xie Tingzhou curled his lips into a smile, looking rather unserious.

“You’re not exactly old. If you want, you can have a few more children. You might be able to raise them well yourself.”

Marquis Zhongyong glared at him, "If I remember correctly, you usually call me old man."

He paused, then added, "You don't think highly of Lanzhou?"

Xie Lanzhou is his and Lady Hou's youngest son, and he is only five years old now.

"I don't have a good eye on the child's mother."

Unwilling to say more, Xie Tingzhou shrugged and said, "I'll go back now if there's nothing else."

But the Marquis of Zhongyong called out to him, "Will you stay in the Marquis's residence from now on?"

Xie Tingzhou didn't stop walking, leaving behind two words, "No."

The Marquis of Loyalty and Valor's shoulders slumped down little by little, and there was a hint of pain in his eyes.

After a cup of tea, he went to the Lady of the Marquis's room.

Lady Hou knelt before him, "My lord, I was wrong."

I was foolish. I shouldn't have been afraid of damaging the reputation of the Marquis's mansion, so I slandered Ye Zhen and planned to sacrifice her to protect the mansion's reputation.

But I really did not send anyone to kill the magistrate, and I never intended to put Ye Zhen to death.

I only want her to take on all of this first, and then, once things have calmed down, I will secretly send her back to the south and find her a good marriage.

She grew up in the south, and returning there would be better than spending her life as a widow in the Marquis's mansion.

I know that I am being too selfish.

But my lord, I am a wife and mother without my own opinions. When it comes to the reputation of my husband and son, I can't care about anything else..."

She closed her eyes, and tears streamed down her face.

Now that things have come to this point, she has no choice but to confess some things. Any further attempts to deny it would only alienate the Marquis and cause her to completely lose his trust.

Having been married for over twenty years, she knows her husband well.

Marquis Zhongyong had never doubted his wife, but now he wondered if he could trust her again.

"When did Yunzhou and that guard start?"

He had previously been so certain that Xie Yunzhou was not a homosexual.

But when Xie Tingzhou stopped him from reporting to the authorities, he began to waver.

If it weren't for the danger to the Marquis's mansion, Xie Tingzhou wouldn't have interfered with his decision. After seeing the corpse, he was heartbroken.

Lady Hou opened her eyes, looking pitiful, "I don't know when they started."

But I did lie to you. Yunzhou contacted me a few days ago, and that's how I found out he was still alive.

But his affair with Chi Heng has had such a shock to me, I don't know how to tell you."

She absolutely refused to admit that she already knew, otherwise the Marquis would only be angrier.

Fortunately, in the past, it was Granny Feng who handled Yunzhou's affairs, and Zizhu knew very little about them.

"I must confess to you that Guard Wu actually went to see the magistrate on my orders."

But I only asked the magistrate to help confirm Ye Zhen's impurity. When Guard Wu returned, he didn't tell me that he had killed the magistrate.

Having given Zizhu most of the information, the Marquis of Zhongyong's expression softened somewhat.

"As a woman, your actions towards Ye Zhen are truly vicious. You dared to try to deceive me, and your attempt to use your power to oppress others is an even greater mistake."

From this day forward, you shall remain at the manor to reflect on your actions and shall not return to the capital without my permission.

She did not plead for mercy, nor did she make a scene. She knelt respectfully on the ground and said, "I have made a mistake and am willing to be punished, but I am too ashamed to let the children know."

If Lanzhou asks, please, Lord Marquis, save me some face by saying that I am recuperating from an illness.

"From now on, I will not be able to serve you by your side. I beg you, my lord, to find a virtuous concubine to take care of you in my place..."

Marquis Zhongyong strode out of the house.

He was afraid that if he walked too slowly, his heart would soften.

When Lady Hou mentioned her youngest son and concubine, it reminded him of how his wife, at an advanced age, gave birth to their youngest son and nearly died. It took her almost a year to recover before she could walk again.

Even when she was bedridden and unable to get up, she always thought of him and took care of everything for him perfectly.

She even arranged for concubines for him because she was unable to serve him and worried that his health would suffer from prolonged lack of relief.

But behind his back, she was afraid that he would forget her after taking a concubine, so she couldn't eat or sleep, and even cried out for him in her dreams.

She made a mistake, but her feelings for him were genuine.

Watching the flustered figure of the Marquis of Zhongyong, the Lady of the Marquis slowly curled her lips into a smile.

A moment later, her smile turned cold, and she gritted her teeth, "What a fine Ye Wantang."

On the surface, they cooperated with her, but behind her back, they dared to investigate Yunzhou and even leak the information to Ye Zhen.

She must avenge this.

The Ye family in the capital.

Ye Wantang sneezed twice in a row, and Madam Ye quickly took a cloak and tied it on for her.

"Mom, I'm not cold."

Ye Wantang tore off her cloak.

In private, she always addressed Madam Ye as such; she only called her aunt when outsiders were present.

Madam Ye coaxed lovingly, "Sweetie, put this on. You'll feel terrible if you catch a cold."

"She hit two people because someone was insulting her."
