Chapter 350 Turning Against Each Other

Ye Yunheng overestimated his patience; he couldn't take it anymore.

Even if Li Xiang threatened him with his wife and children, he would still confess.

But on this day, no one watched the execution. Even the executioner seemed eager to finish as soon as possible, and no one cared whether he had anything to say.

Back in prison, the doctor bandaged him and gave him medicine to keep him alive. Ye Yunheng begged the doctor, "Give me a quick death, please. I'll repay you by being your slave in my next life."

The doctor spat at him, saying, "I dare not expect any reward from you, you traitor."

General Ye has taught you for many years and is also your own aunt. You just harm her like that? Who would believe your lies if you were such an ungrateful person?

Besides, you deserved your fate. You wanted to escape punishment and drag me down with you? Dream on.

The doctor felt that Ye Yunheng deserved to die, but killing him outright would be too lenient.

The current punishment is quite good, but he gets very annoyed by having to treat the injuries of this kind of person every day, and he can't help but mutter to himself.

Seeing that the doctor was unwilling to help him, Ye Yunheng collapsed to the ground in despair.

He was extremely weak from the daily pain of having his flesh cut off; even speaking a single word was exhausting, yet the pain in his body was very real.

Such a life was worse than death, and he closed his eyes, wondering what other way he could end it all.

But with his hands and feet bound and guards taking turns watching him outside the cell, dying was a difficult prospect.

Annoying low snoring came from next door again.

For the first two days, after being taken back to the prison, Ye Wantang cried and made a scene, refusing to watch the execution again, or gesturing that she wanted to see the Emperor and Empress.

The jailer didn't tolerate her behavior; every time she caused trouble, he would whip her with a whip dipped in salt water.

When she was beaten until it hurt, she dared not make a fuss anymore, but every time she returned from the execution, her sobs could be heard.

Ye Yunheng knew why she was crying.

I was terrified!

But her crying reminded him that he would suffer the pain of having his flesh cut off again the next day, making him even more irritable and disgusted. The sound of her crying was like a vengeful ghost calling for his death.

These days, the siblings have had many arguments. He regretted exposing himself to stand up for her, and Ye Wantang's sobs were filled with resentment.

The already thin bond between the brother and sister had long since turned into a life-or-death hatred.

Ye Yunheng thought to himself, "If only my parents hadn't given birth to Ye Wantang."

Without her, there would have been no switch, and he wouldn't have had to be afraid of his secret being exposed and thus harm his aunt.

In fact, given his aunt's kind and righteous nature, even if she didn't give him military power, as long as he was ambitious and hardworking, she would arrange his future. However, his parents switched his aunt's child with his own, and he was afraid that his aunt would take her anger out on him.

"You're the real jinx!"

Ye Yunheng has said these words countless times in recent days.

"You're the jinx!"

Upon hearing this, Ye Wantang cursed inwardly, "If you hadn't been so secretive and hadn't told the truth, how could Shi Yan have come up with this torturous method? I'm all because of you."

During her time in captivity, she figured out Shi Yan's intentions towards Ye Yunheng: to force him to confess.

She was simply dragged down by him.

But she couldn't say it, she could only make muffled noises.

But Ye Yunheng inexplicably understood what she meant.

For someone who already regrets his actions, Ye Wantang's words were undoubtedly like stabbing a knife into his wounds.

If he had confessed earlier, perhaps he could have died a better death.

After his mindset changed, he no longer felt that the child's appearance at the execution ground was because Li Heng wanted the child to send him off; it was clearly a threat from Li Heng.

Since Li Heng is unrighteous, then we cannot blame him for being unjust.

Therefore, upon learning that the emperor wanted to re-examine him, and seeing Li Heng in the excrement, Ye Yunheng summoned them all without a second thought.

The usually dignified and respectable Prime Minister Li was sitting in a filthy mess, looking disheveled. Ye Yunheng knew then that he had fallen and could no longer protect his children.

Or perhaps, he never intended to protect her at all.

Ye Wantang tried her best to open her mouth, wanting to say, "Li Heng pleaded for her earlier, which must have been because of Ye Yunheng, which means that Ye Yunheng and Li Heng are involved."

She did this in order to beg the emperor for a pardon, to be spared from watching the executions every day, and even to have her life spared.

Unfortunately, she couldn't say it, and it was too late.

The shock of the past few days had driven her somewhat insane. Having missed her chance to claim credit and gain favor, she angrily bit Ye Yunheng.

Ye Yunheng didn't even bother to push her away, and begged the emperor to give him a quick death.

After glancing at the two barely recognizable figures, the emperor looked at Ye Zhen.

He knew that the person who hated the brother and sister the most in the world was Ye Zhen.

The emperor entrusted the power of life and death to Ye Zhen.

Ye Yunheng, desperate to die, was surprisingly clever and realized what had happened. He kowtowed to Ye Zhen, saying, "I was wrong. I shouldn't have killed my aunt."

Actually, I know that my aunt treats me better than my parents. It was Li Heng who told me that my aunt had some knowledge of my family's secrets. I was afraid of losing everything I had, which is why I acted so foolishly.

He pointed at Li Heng, "He was the one who kept instigating and scaring me. He resented his aunt for advising Madam Shen to be independent and felt that Madam Shen's disobedience was due to his aunt's instigation."

He looked down on women, but his aunt was better than many men. He felt unbalanced and thought that the court should be a man's domain.

He was also worried that his aunt's continued existence would hinder his grand scheme; it was all his fault, he was a complete hypocrite…

As he spoke, his voice grew weaker and weaker until he finally fainted.

Ye Wantang also realized from Ye Yunheng's actions that it was more useful to ask Ye Zhen for help than to ask the emperor.

Even though she was unwilling, she was even more afraid of being cut to pieces. The 20th was approaching, and the day of her torture was just around the corner.

She couldn't even endure one day, let alone ten.

Fear took over, and she no longer cared about competing with Ye Zhen or saving face. She desperately kowtowed to Ye Zhen, begging for release.
