Chapter 5 The Lady of the Marquis Wants a Physical Examination

Ye Zhen injured his leg and face in the fall.

The doctor hired by the village was a middle-aged man, who was not able to treat her leg injury.

There were no female doctors in the county town.

However, Ye Zhen's skirt was covered in blood, which looked quite serious. If the injury was not treated in time, it could cause a high fever or even leave scars.

Wanxing cried so hard her eyes were swollen. "Young Madam, let me help you treat your wounds."

She knows a little bit of simple bandaging.

There's no doctor available right now, so her coming is better than nothing.

Ye Zhen stopped her.

Taking advantage of the fact that no one was in the house, Ye Zhen concealed the fact that he had been reborn and told Wanxing about the stray cat scratch and the conspiracy of Madam Hou and the others.

He comforted her, saying, "Don't cry. I know what I'm doing. The superficial wounds only look scary; they're not serious."

Wanxing was so angry that she wanted to drag out the corpses of Granny Feng and Xie Yunzhou and kill them all again.

“They tricked you into marriage first, and you have been a dutiful widow for three years and have been very considerate to them. Why should they treat you like this?”

But people don't need a reason to be bad.

She felt sorry for Ye Zhen, saying, "You're covering up the injury on your leg, how come you also injured your face?"

But she knew in her heart that Ye Zhen did it to make it more realistic.

There's no such thing as rolling down a slope and only injuring your leg.

It's all her fault for not protecting her master.

She raised her hand and slapped herself, tears streaming down her face. "Young Madam, I'm sorry."

She shouldn't have believed Granny Feng's nonsense, thinking that by getting more night dew, she could let her mistress rest more.

Ye Zhen sighed helplessly, "I never expected them to do this to me. Don't punish yourself for other people's mistakes."

"You will not hurt yourself again. You also promise me that in any situation, you will protect yourself first."

Wanxing grew up with her and they were like sisters.

In this life, she was unwilling to let Wanxing sacrifice himself for her again.

After a pause, Ye Zhen added, "From now on, please call me Miss."

Whoever wants to be Xie Yunzhou's young mistress can have it.

Wanxing nodded subconsciously, then looked surprised and excited, "Is Miss leaving the Marquis's mansion?"

The young lady was raised outside the capital since childhood and had no intention of returning to the capital to get married. It was her master and mistress who forced her to do so by threatening suicide.

Originally, she intended to do her best as a wife of the Xie family, and five years later, the young lady faked her death and took them away, which could be considered as repaying the debt of life.

Is Miss heartbroken and planning to leave early?

It's better to leave.

The young lady was like a swallow in the clouds or a fish in the water, and she felt sorry for her being trapped in the inner quarters.

Ye Zhen shook his head, "I will leave, but not now."

She hadn't avenged her blood feud, nor had she reclaimed her true identity. If she left now, wouldn't that be letting those people benefit?

But I'll have a chance to talk to Wanxing about these things later.

"What you need to do now is to find a doctor for me."

“The estate of Imperial Censor Wang is not far from here. His old lady is in poor health and recuperates at the estate year-round. She should have a maid who knows medicine by her side.”

"Does Miss want Old Madam Wang to testify about your injuries?"

Ye Zhen nodded.

Marquis Zhongyong had two wives. His first wife died in childbirth, and his current wife, Lady Liu, was his second wife.

Lady Wang was the maternal aunt of the first wife. Although the first wife had passed away many years ago, the Marquis of Zhongyong still respected this aunt.

Moreover, Ye Zhen had other plans.

Wanxing was in a dilemma, "I heard that Madam Wang dislikes Madam Hou and her children very much."

Xie Yunzhou was born to the Lady of the Marquis, and the young lady was the Lady of the Marquis's daughter-in-law. She was worried that Old Madam Wang would be angry with the young lady and would refuse to lend the female doctor.

Ye Zhen whispered to her.

A moment later, Wanxing found the head of the manor and anxiously described Ye Zhen's injuries.

The head of the village was having a headache.

He never expected that the person Granny Feng had placed in the backyard would be Xie Yunzhou.

Now that the person is dead, and such a thing has happened, he doesn't know how he can bear the wrath of the Lady Hou.

Ye Zhen fell right in front of him, so he naturally knew how serious her injuries were; many of the bamboo stakes were stained with blood.

However, none of the women in the village knew medicine, and he dared not let a male doctor treat the injury on the thigh of the young mistress of the Marquis of Zhongyong's mansion.

Wanxing's anxiety made the already uneasy village head even more like a headless fly, to the point that he went to the county magistrate for help.

The county magistrate came here to curry favor with the Marquis of Zhongyong's family, but ended up making a huge mess of things and is now quite uneasy.

He wanted to make amends for Ye Zhen's actions, but he was powerless to do so.

He could only apologize to Ye Zhen.

Ye Zhen, speaking through the screen, advised, "My lord, there is no need to feel guilty. It is a natural instinct to be shocked when you suddenly see someone who has passed away."

Even now, I find it hard to believe that my husband…

She seemed heartbroken, or perhaps in unbearable pain.

After a moment, he continued, "When Father returns to the capital, I will try my best to explain things to him, but I am worried that my words carry little weight."

If you are truly worried, you might as well ask the old lady of the Imperial Censor Wang's family for help.

I've heard that Madam Wang is upright and honest, and my father has always respected her..."

The magistrate slapped his forehead. He had been so preoccupied with Xie Yunzhou's matter that he had completely forgotten about Old Madam Wang.

This area falls under his jurisdiction, and he knows exactly who lives in the nearby villages.

In an attempt to curry favor with Imperial Censor Wang, he even visited the Wang family estate to see Old Madam Wang, who had a female physician by her side.

Moreover, as Ye Zhen said, Madam Wang has influence over Marquis Zhongyong.

The magistrate expressed his gratitude and then hurriedly left with Wanxing.

Little did they know that Ye Zhen, behind the screen, coldly curled her lips.

In her past life, it was this dog of a magistrate who, under the orders of Lady Hou and her son, spread the false accusation that she had cheated on someone in the manor in a vivid and detailed manner, and even found two strong men to confess to the crime.

As an official appointed by the imperial court, he only sought power without investigating the truth, disregarded the law, and aided and abetted evildoers.
