Is what my mother said true?
After Kang Le left, Marquis Zhongyong asked the old lady.
The old lady hated him for cutting off Fu Jiang's leg and sneered, "You still know I'm your mother? Have you ever listened to my advice?"
Marquis Zhongyong had no interest in listening to her rambling and asked the question that had been bothering him, “If Mother feels guilty, why haven’t you helped her search for her family all these years?”
Although the Marquis's mansion doesn't possess great supernatural powers, it should still be able to offer some assistance.
This is illogical.
Marquis Zhongyong felt that the old lady was lying again.
If Fu Jiang is just the son of an old flame, why would she need to hide it? And who would feel guilty enough to help an outsider cuckold their own son?
Now that the old lady is determined to help Fu Jiangyan to the end, she will not reveal a single word to Marquis Zhongyong.
"Your Excellency is a very busy man, how could I dare to trouble you?"
She's sarcastic and unpleasant.
Marquis Zhongyong was even more certain of his suspicions. Knowing that he wouldn't get any answers, he simply stopped asking, ordered his men to carry away Lady Liu's body, and bowed to the guests.
"I am very grateful to everyone for your kindness today. I will express my gratitude again in a future day."
Before you all depart, I have one more matter I would like to ask you all to bear witness to.
“My daughter-in-law Ye Zhen has been tormented by Liu Shi for many years, and I, as her elder, have been completely unaware of it all these years. I feel deeply ashamed.”
These days, the child has managed the Marquis's residence very well and has been filial and respectful to me.
It was only in recent days that I learned that Ye Jinghong cared deeply for this niece, teaching her through letters over the years, and even thinking of her before his death in battle.
As a close friend of Jinghong, it is my duty to take care of those she cares about.
Therefore, I have decided today to bestow half of the estate of this Marquis's mansion upon her. No matter what changes may occur in the future, she will always be the daughter-in-law of the Marquis's mansion, and this mansion will always be her home.
If she finds a good husband in the future, I, in her father's name, will gladly send her off on her marriage.
Ye Zhen was stunned, and then moved.
The Marquis of Zhongyong arranged for her in advance because he intended to reveal Xie Yunzhou and his group's identities.
He wanted to openly oppose Fu Jiang, or perhaps he was prepared to confront Fu Jiang's backers.
Under such circumstances, the Marquis of Zhongyong still had the mind to consider her future and thoughtfully left her a way out.
If the Marquis's mansion is safe and sound, Ye Zhen can live there permanently. If the Marquis's mansion is in trouble, he can marry her off in time so that she will not be implicated by the Marquis's mansion.
Ye Zhen felt a pang of shame again.
"Father, Ye Zhen is not acceptable."
She only used the Marquis of Zhongyong; how could she be worthy of such treatment?
Marquis Zhongyong waved his hand, "This is what you deserve. My mind is made up."
The old lady was furious. "You really don't respect me as your mother? I'm not dead yet, and you don't need to go through me for matters of the Marquis's mansion?"
The Marquis's mansion belongs to Lanzhou, how can it be given to Ye Zhen?
Marquis Zhongyong, with an expression that said "You ignored me just now, so I don't need to pay attention to you now," pretended not to hear the old lady's shouts and quietly instructed Wu Dong to go to the government office to complete the formalities.
Everyone was shocked.
Madam Cui was both envious and heartbroken. "Since ancient times, family property has always been left to descendants. There has never been a case of giving family property to a daughter-in-law. Isn't this unfair to the heir and Young Master Lanzhou?"
Now that Lady Liu is dead, her granddaughter is very likely to become the legal wife, and the child she gives birth to will be the legitimate son.
Even if he isn't officially recognized as the legitimate son, he still has a share of the Marquis's estate. His property belongs to the Cui family, so how can it be divided up?
Xie Tingzhou smiled, "The Marquis's Mansion was passed down from my grandfather to my father. Later, my father made many military achievements and received a lot of favors, which led to the current situation of the Marquis's Mansion."
"I will have no objection to how Father distributes his own possessions."
The implication was that since I, the future Marquis, had no objections, they didn't need to overthink it.
Madam Cui was unwilling to give up, so she secretly pinched Cui Yihuan beside her, wanting her to come out and say a few words.
But how could Cui Yihuan say that she understood the Marquis of Zhongyong, and that since he made this decision, he must have believed that Ye Zhen was worthy?
No matter what anyone says, it's useless. Besides, her son Tingzhou agrees, so she won't go against him.
Inside the palace.
Kang Le met the Emperor at the Empress's Phoenix Palace. When she arrived, the Emperor and Empress were listening to a report on the Marquis's residence.
Upon seeing Kang Le, the emperor asked, "Kang Le, do you want me to put pressure on Marquis Zhongyong?"
He was about the same age as the Marquis of Zhongyong, both in their forties, but because he lived deep in the palace, his physique was not as robust as the Marquis of Zhongyong's, although his face looked much younger than the Marquis of Zhongyong who was fighting on the front lines.
Kang Le nodded, realizing that his purpose had been revealed. "Your Majesty, the Grand Princess has taken good care of me over the years, and I want to repay her."
However, Kang Le's recklessness and poor judgment led to a stalemate. Kang Le was genuinely worried that the Grand Princess's condition would worsen upon learning of her grandchild's injury, and thus had no choice but to seek help from her elder brother, the Emperor.
“Fu Jiang committed the crime first, the Grand Princess is my great-aunt, and the Marquis of Zhongyong is also a meritorious official of mine.”
The emperor smiled and said, "Kang Le, you've given me a real problem."
Kang Le's face paled slightly. "Kang Le knows she was wrong. She acted impulsively."
The Empress came to Kang Le's rescue, gently patting the Emperor's hand, "Alright, Kang Le is just being filial."
If Fu Jiang is indeed a descendant of the Grand Princess, then Kang Le has rendered a service to the royal family.
She then looked at Kang Le, "However, since you had clues, you didn't report them to His Majesty, but instead rashly went to demand the person. That was indeed impulsive."
Any man with a backbone would not let Fu Jiang live. By bringing up the Grand Princess to put pressure on Marquis Zhongyong, you are only putting him in a difficult position.
With people like the Grand Princess who dedicate themselves to the Great Abyss, and others like the Marquis of Loyalty and Bravery who fight bravely for the country, the Great Abyss can be stable, and our Xie family can sit securely on the throne.
"Kang Le, the royal family must not underestimate anyone who has rendered meritorious service to the country."
“It is Kang Le who is foolish, Kang Le knows he was wrong.”
The Empress smiled and looked at the Emperor, "Since my younger sister knows she is wrong, please, Your Majesty, think of a solution."
