Chapter 19 The power went out

Chapter 19 The power went out

It was late at night. Yan Yi took a shower and went to his room to read, while Bai He lay on his bed playing games.

Play for a while and look at him.

He wore a simple white sports T-shirt as pajamas, with a few strands of short hair hanging messily on his forehead, and his facial features were delicate and gentle.

As if feeling that she was looking at him, Yan Yi looked straight at her.

For the first time, Bai He discovered that his eyes were so dark, forming a sharp contrast with his cold white skin.

It is as black as a ball of fog that cannot be dissolved, and it is also...unpredictable.

"What are you looking at?" He said in a gentle voice.

Bai He lay crookedly on his bed, hugging the pillow and saying, "You have to keep squeezing me like this! I can't even play the game anymore."

"Just kidding, the college entrance exam is over."

“But you’re still trying!”

"Just because I work hard doesn't mean you have to work hard with me. Just like when I occasionally help my uncles and aunts, I do it voluntarily, but that doesn't mean you have to go with me."

Yan Yi spoke calmly, his dark, deep eyes returning to the book. "I don't want to put any pressure on you."

"That's easy to say." Bai He sighed, "There's only one thing I'm quite thankful for."

"Um?"

"You study so hard, but your grades don't seem to be very good."

Bai He chuckled as she spoke, "Sometimes they do worse than me. On the second mock exam, I remember I was ranked in the bottom 200 of my grade, hahahaha."

Yan Yi put down the book, walked over to her in a feigned anger, and covered her face with a pillow: "Are you still gloating?"

"That's what it is, stupid translation, hahahaha."

Yan Yi tried to tickle her, but Bai He dodged and begged for mercy: "Okay, I was wrong. I won't laugh at you anymore."

"So, I'm the early bird that flies first." Yan Yi took away the pillow and pulled her up. "You don't have to feel anxious anymore."

"That's true."

In Bai He's impression, Yan Yi really likes reading and studies very seriously and hard, but his grades in every exam are... quite fluctuating. Sometimes he can be in the top 50 in the grade, and sometimes... he falls to the bottom 200. Even the class teacher can't figure out what's the pattern of this guy.

If there is a wave graph, the result of language translation... is definitely the one with the largest fluctuation, ups and downs, just like a heart rate line.

There were several times when Bai He's ranking improved, and seeing Yan Yi falling behind by hundreds of places, she felt very anxious and dragged him to the library to help him with his homework.

His Chinese and English were particularly weak, but Bai He's Chinese and English were just fine, so I took his test paper and worked through each question with him...

Yan Yi also listened very carefully, looked at the test paper, and then looked at her. After tutoring for a period of time, his grades improved again. This made Bai He feel very accomplished, and she especially loved tutoring him.

Anyway, she must be nicer to Yan Yi, better and better... She must take good care of him and make sure he gets into a good university and makes a name for himself, only then can she repay Yan's father for saving her life.

After playing with him for a while, Bai He took some clean clothes and went to the bathroom to take a shower and prepare to go to bed.

Unexpectedly, just as I put shampoo on my head and rubbed it into foam, the lights suddenly went out and the surroundings fell into darkness.

Bai He opened his eyes, but they were irritated by the white foam and hurt. He quickly closed them and turned on the shower to rinse them with water. As a result, the hot water in the shower instantly turned into cold water.

Although taking a shower in the summer is fine, it’s a bit unbearable now that it’s raining and the temperature is dropping outside.

"One, what's going on?"

Yan Yi's voice came from outside the door: "There's a power outage. The owner group said that there's a problem with the circuit in buildings two and three. We're contacting the power supply bureau for emergency repairs."

"What should we do then?"

"Don't wash anymore, there's no hot water. Just wipe yourself clean and come out."

"No, there's still foam on my head."

Outside the door, Yan Yi's footsteps faded away. After a while, he came back and said, "The gas is still on. I boiled a pot of hot water. Wrap yourself in a bath towel first to avoid catching a cold."

Bai He couldn't open her eyes, so she could only grope in the dark, pull the bath towel off the wall, wrap it around her body, and sit by the bathtub waiting.

After a while, Yan Yi came to the door with a pot of hot water and knocked on the Changhong glass door: "The water is ready, can you wash the code yourself?"

"I can't open my eyes."

"That…"

"I'm dressed. Ah Yi, come in and help me. Add some warm water and I'll just rinse my head in the basin. There's nothing we can do about the power outage."

Outside the door, Yan Yi hesitated.

His hand trembled as he fell on the doorknob, gripping it tightly until the backs of his fingers turned white...

Desire surged in his heart, and he was restless, and he could hardly suppress his body's reaction.

"Hajime?"

Yan Yi took a deep breath and pushed open the door.

The girl sat wet by the bathtub, covering herself tightly with her clothes. Her long hair, stained with foam, hung on her fair shoulders. The bath towel was wrapped loosely around her chest, hanging down to her legs, half-exposed.

Yan Yi took in all of this and felt like a balloon that was being blown up violently, his whole body tense, not knowing when it would burst.

He tried his best to endure...

This is what he does best.

He took down a clean small basin and filled it with hot water and cold water.

"Bai He, bend down, I'll give you a rinse."

So Bai He bent down obediently and let him pour warm water on her head little by little to wash away the white foam on her head.

In fact, the two of them used to wash each other's hair often, which was a tacit cooperation.

At this moment, Yan Yi tried his best to avoid direct gaze.

It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s that I’m afraid I can’t control myself.

After washing her five times, he finally washed away the foam on her head. Bai He opened her eyes again. Yan Yi turned around and mixed the last bit of hot water with cold water. He placed a full basin of warm water at her feet and said softly, "Rinse yourself. I'll get you a clean towel."

"Oh, okay, thank you."

He walked out the door like a gentleman without even looking at her.

Bai He looked at his back and realized the inappropriateness of what she had just done.

When she closed her eyes and only listened to the voice, she still treated him as her little brother, but in fact, he had grown up completely and there was a very obvious physical difference between the two of them.

Bai He's cheeks turned red belatedly. She rinsed the foam off her body with warm water. Yan Yi handed her a bath towel through the crack of the door. She wiped herself and changed into pajamas.

It is definitely impossible to dry wet long hair with a hair dryer. Bai He wiped it again and again with a towel for more than ten minutes, and then went to the windowsill to blow the wind for a while so that the hair could dry faster so that she could go to bed.

She walked back to the room, but was surprised to find that Yan Yi's door was locked.

A little surprised, Bai He knocked on the door: "Ayi?"

"Yeah." The boy's dull voice came.

"Why is the door locked?"

"Changing clothes..."

"oh."

Bai He didn't think much about it and took out a small rechargeable LED desk lamp from the cabinet. After trying it, he found that it worked and the small desk lamp was bright enough.

In the light of the small desk lamp, she used a comb to comb her hair smooth.

About ten minutes later, Yan Yi came out of the room, and he had indeed changed into a pair of black trousers.

He took the shorts he had worn before to the living balcony, washed them clean with cold water, and hung them on the retractable clothes hanger.

Bai He leaned over to look at him. A flash of lightning illuminated the room. The young man's figure was tall and slender, and his profile was calm and firm.

"Didn't I just change my pants?" she muttered softly, but didn't think much about it.

Yan Yi hung up his shorts and walked back to the living room. The little girl was wearing a fluffy short-sleeved nightgown, sitting on the sofa with her legs crossed. The soft light of the night light on the coffee table enveloped her fair little face.

He came over with a small plastic fan, sat next to her, and fanned her: "Is it hot?"

“A little.”

The air conditioner was off, and even though it was raining heavily outside, the room was still a little stuffy.

"Do you want to stay in a hotel?" Yan Yi suggested.

"No, it's raining so hard outside and I just took a shower."

Yan Yi walked to the window and opened it a crack to let the wind in and drive away the stuffy air in the room.

There was no way to do anything because of the power outage. We didn't know when the circuit could be repaired. In order to avoid the mobile phones running out of battery in an emergency, both of them turned off their phones.

In the dark night, the only sound is the roar of wind and rain outside the window.

Yan Yi felt hot inside and out, so he kept fanning himself with a fan.

Bai He asked him, "Is it so hot?"

"Um."

"Then why don't you open the door to allow air to circulate."

“No, safety first.”

"Too."

Bai He took out a set of checkers that he hadn't played for hundreds of years from the cabinet, and played chess with Yan Yi under a small LED desk lamp to kill time.

It's strange to say, Yan Yi's chess level is just like his academic performance, up and down. If he loses a game to Bai He, he must win two games to give her a little hope of victory, and then ruthlessly destroy and attack her.

The originally boring game became so interesting to Bai He that he had to beat him in one round.

After playing for a while, Yan Yi suddenly asked, "Do you want to hear a story? I'll tell you one."

"Ayi, can you tell stories?"

"I saw a movie a few days ago. It was quite interesting. I'll tell you about it."

"Hurrah!"

Yan Yi then slowly told her about the film "Possessed." "The story begins with two university students preparing to film a documentary about folk customs and strange stories. They find a fortune-teller named Wang Po. It just so happens that someone in the village is possessed by an evil spirit and asks Wang Po to restore the soul. The so-called restoration means bringing the soul back to life. The two students filmed the entire process on a DV. Unexpectedly, Wang Po is incredibly skilled and actually cures the person. A few days later, another order arrives from a family in an extremely remote area. These family members are a brother and sister. The sister is also said to be possessed by an evil spirit and constantly sleepwalks at night..."

"etc!!!"

Bai He felt something was wrong the more he listened, so he interrupted him, "Are you telling me a ghost story?"

"It's not a ghost story." Yan Yi said innocently.

"But... what's with the possessed thing? What's with the returning person? It's... very strange."

"Don't worry, once you hear the end, you'll know this isn't a ghost story."

Bai He was a little scared, but he had already told half of the story, and she couldn't help but want to know the subsequent plot.

"Are you sure...are you sure there's no ghost?"

"Yeah, trust me."

So Bai He asked Yan Yi to continue talking, stopped playing checkers, sat down next to him, and hugged his strong arms in fear.

Yan Yi could feel the little girl's body temperature, which was slightly cooler than his.

He could feel it, and Bai He could naturally feel it too, and murmured, "Your body is so hot."

Yan Yi said, "It's a little hot."

"No matter what, it was you who wanted to tell such a scary story." Bai He would not let go of him no matter how hot he was. She held his hand even tighter and said, "Keep going."

Yan Yi's Adam's apple rolled unnaturally and his throat felt a little dry and itchy.

He continued his story calmly.

When talking about the second half of the plot, Bai He turned pale with fear and trembled: "No, didn't you say there are no ghosts?"

"There really are no ghosts."

"Then why is she possessed by a ghost? And...she even sleepwalked in the middle of the night and killed people with a knife... And her brother was clearly hacked to death, so how did he come back to life?"

"You'll know later."

So Yan Yi continued to tell the story, and after he finished telling the ending, he found out that there was indeed no ghost, and it was all a revenge case planned by the siblings, the protagonists of the story. Of course, the murderer was caught, but... but the weird atmosphere in the story still scared Bai He.

After finishing the story, it was already late at night. Yan Yi touched her soft long hair and said, "It's dry now. Go to sleep."

"good…"

Bai He returned to the room with a small desk lamp and lay down. He heard rustling sounds from next door, but after a while, the sounds died down and Yan Yi fell asleep.

Bai He didn't dare turn off the light and placed the small table lamp next to the bedside table.

The heavy rain outside the window showed no sign of stopping. The strong wind blew the leaves, and their shadows were cast on the wall, like a monster with bared fangs and claws.

Bai He was not afraid of thunder or anything, but she was afraid of ghosts, especially the small desk lamp whose light source gradually weakened and finally ran out of power.

Lightning illuminated the room from time to time. Bai He covered her head with a thin blanket and tucked her feet into the blanket, fearing that something under the bed would touch her feet.

The more afraid you are, the more you will think this way.

Especially after hearing Yan Yi say that the possessed sister appeared at the witch's bedside in the middle of the night with a knife...

A few minutes later, Bai He climbed onto Yan Yi's bed.

Yan Yi was sleeping on his side and was suddenly awakened by the noise and turned around.

Bai He sat behind him, hugging a pillow, and said pitifully, "Yi, sister will sleep with you tonight."
