Chapter 70 Perfume
Today is Saturday and she has a day off. Bai He originally wanted to sleep a little longer, but at dawn, she was woken up by the smell of cooking smoke that came into her dream.
The fire incident in her childhood had etched a sense of vigilance into her bones. She jumped out of bed, not even having time to put on her slippers, and rushed out of the room: "Qi Lang, there's a fire! Run!"
The open kitchen was right in the living room, and the smell of cooking fumes was so pungent that Qi Lang couldn't stand it. He quickly turned off the fire, covered his mouth with his arms, and kept coughing.
There was no fire, but the thick smoke in the room would not dissipate. Bai He quickly turned on the range hood, and at the same time turned on the fresh air system in the house, turned on the exhaust fan in the bathroom, and opened the windows and doors for convection to disperse the smoke as soon as possible.
He was still coughing violently. Bai He came over and patted his back gently to soothe him.
"What are you doing?"
Qi Lang was speechless, tears were coming out of his eyes, and he pointed at the pot.
Bai He turned around and saw a charred mass in the pot. He frowned and asked, "Are you burning paper money in the pot?"
“…”
He croaked, "Eggs!"
The little girl poked around in the charred pot with her chopsticks: "Even the mother hen wouldn't be able to recognize the eggs this thing laid."
Qi Lang walked to the window, took a few deep breaths of fresh air, and finally came back to life: "If you don't believe me, you can send it for material testing to see if it is an egg."
"You're truly talented." Bai He put down his chopsticks and said helplessly, "You can even cremate eggs."
Qi Lang was a little frustrated and walked over to look at the black substance in the pot: "Can't eat it?"
"It's like this, even a dog won't eat it." Bai He poured out the burnt mass, washed the pot, and lit the fire again to fry an egg.
She was quite skilled in her movements, washing the eggs, beating them and adding salt...all in one go.
Perhaps the fire was too high, and after a while, the oil in the pan crackled and exploded. The girl was familiar with the process at first, but she got a little panicked when the egg was put in. The oil splashed everywhere and she stepped back in fear. Qi Lang quickly took out a fire mask from the cabinet and put it on her. The two of them worked together to fry the egg until it was half burnt.
Looking at the plate of strange substance on the coffee table, Qi Lang smiled and said, "Brother, don't talk about the second brother. Our cooking skills are comparable."
Bai He was not convinced: "I am much better than you. At least I didn't turn my house into a fire scene. Besides, my food is still edible."
"Try one."
"Eat it if you want."
Bai He picked up a little of the unburned part with chopsticks and put it in his mouth to taste it.
Qi Lang stared at her curiously: "How is it?"
She swallowed with difficulty: "Too much salt."
Qi Lang also tasted it and sighed: "It's the kind of thing that won't kill you."
"So do you want to eat it?"
"eat!"
She fried the eggs herself, and he had to do her the honor of eating them all.
The two of them took turns taking a bite and shared the salty and burnt fried egg with the locals.
Qi Lang said, "You actually had a quarrel with Yan Yi over breakfast before."
"I know I was wrong now." Bai He regretted it. "He has been waking me up for breakfast every day for ten years. He is simply a male Bodhisattva who saves all living beings."
"That's not the point. The point is, he can make breakfast as good as a full banquet, and he makes it all himself. He even mixes the flour for the steamed buns himself. What kind of snail girl is this?"
Bai He looked at Qi Lang and said, "From what I heard...it seems like you really want a snail girl."
"What man doesn't want that?"
"Oh, bye then." Bai He stood up to leave. Qi Lang put his arm around her waist and fell on the sofa with her, playing and joking.
"To be honest, you don't like to hear it."
"I just don't like to hear it."
"I can do what he can do. Just wait for a few days." Qi Lang promised him seriously, "Within a week, I will have mastered his skills."
"I think cooking is a matter of talent." Bai He sniffed the faint smell of cooking smoke lingering in the air. "You're really not very good at this, so don't force yourself."
"I'm going to do it."
"Be the boss!"
The morning passed slowly and the two of them cuddled together on the sofa. Qi Lang was holding a conference call with people from the company, while Bai He leaned in his arms and read a book. He put his arm around her neck and stroked a strand of hair on her shoulder.
Bai He would look up at him from time to time, touch his protruding Adam's apple with her hand, and feel the vibration of his Adam's apple when he spoke Cantonese...
Qi Lang's part was quite sensitive, and he couldn't stand her pinching, so his hands started to get naughty.
Bai He was made to giggle by him, and he immediately put his hand to his lips, signaling her to be quiet.
"My dad is here." He made a silent lip gesture to her.
Bai He quickly covered her mouth, but she turned around, lay on top of him, and approached him in a somewhat mischievous manner, licking his Adam's apple like a kitten.
Qi Lang couldn't stand it any longer. Some things immediately responded, but because he was still on the phone, reporting on the company's project, he tried his best to endure it, even though his breathing was unstable...
When the girl heard that his call seemed to be coming to an end, she knew that something bad was going to happen, so she stood up decisively, ran into the room and locked the door.
Sure enough, within two minutes, there was an angry knock on the door from the man outside.
"I can't kill you today!"
He opened the door with his key and pulled the little girl out of the closet.
"I was wrong, I was wrong." Bai He apologized repeatedly and tried to run away, but Qi Lang didn't give her the chance. He picked her up and threw her on the bed.
Seeing that begging for mercy was useless, she began to curse and resist desperately. The two of them played on the bed until they were exhausted, and neither of them could subdue the other. Although Qi Lang had a clear advantage in physical strength, Bai He was also very energetic, and she was also cunning and changeable. She would come back to do something sneaky after admitting defeat. In short, the two of them were still like when they were children, and they couldn't stop making trouble.
At noon, Qi Lang took her to an exquisite tea restaurant for lunch.
"Where do you want to go this afternoon?" he asked her.
"Do you have any recommendations?"
"Would you like to go shopping and buy you something?"
"Shopping?"
"Well, it kind of gives me the experience of being a boyfriend."
"Okay, then I won't be polite with you." Bai He agreed readily, "But, there are three rules."
"about."
"You'd better not come to that 'I don't want this or that, I'll take care of everything else' scene, or I'll perform 'Parting with Kindness' for you on the spot."
"How could I embarrass you?" Qi Lang said with a smile, "I'm such a considerate and kind person."
He really is a considerate idiot.
When they arrived at the shopping mall in the business district, Qi Lang did not book the entire store. He didn't need to, because the entire shopping complex on the most prosperous street belonged to him.
So they received a one-stop service when entering the store. Three men in suits and ties led them from store to store. Whenever Bai He looked at a piece of clothing or a bag for a few seconds, someone would immediately understand and help her pack it.
Bai He was completely speechless.
She turned around and said to Qi Lang righteously, "Excuse me, good man, can we go shopping like normal people?"
Qi Lang heard the anger in the little girl's voice and immediately snapped his fingers.
The shop assistants hurried back to their posts, each busy with their own things. Even the few managers in suits who had been following them around just now disappeared.
It seems... there are more customers in the mall.
Bai He asked him, "Is there any shopping mall on this street that is not yours?"
Qi Lang said truthfully: "The one across the street, our competitor."
"Okay, let's go there!"
Qi Lang smiled: "As you wish."
The two of them held hands and walked down the street like an ordinary couple in love.
Bai He really liked holding his hand, and Qi Lang was also very clingy. He would ask for a kiss from her after they had walked a few steps. At first, she kissed him on the face perfunctorily, but later she was not satisfied with that. He insisted on kissing her on the lips, and he had to kiss her seriously for more than five seconds. Bai He felt embarrassed on the street.
"You're as clingy as my ex-boyfriend."
"Just a little bit? That's not enough."
Qi Lang rubbed and sniffed her, making her feel itchy. She pushed him away and said, "Okay, I want to go shopping seriously. I want to buy a lot of things!"
"Okay, now let's get down to business!"
Bai He went to the men's clothing store and bought two branded shirts for her father. She then went to the various imported skincare stores on the first floor and bought lotions and perfumes for her mother. The prices here were much cheaper than in the mainland, so she also bought facial masks for several of her roommates.
There was even a gift for her eldest cousin. She went into a nice niche brand lighter store and picked out a lighter for him.
She was interested in a finely crafted steel lighter with a small rose embossed pattern, but Qi Lang helped her pick out one with a painted bikini-clad busty woman: "Brother Pang Yi will like this one."
"Oh, that's not good."
"Believe me, he'll love this one."
“…”
Bai He certainly believed in Qi Lang's vision. He always knew other people's preferences very clearly and had extraordinary observation skills in details. He was not as careless as he appeared.
When checking out, Qi Lang was about to take out his credit card, but Bai He stopped him and said, "You can buy my clothes for me, but I can buy the gifts for my friends myself. Is this okay with my boyfriend?"
Qi Lang looked at her lovingly: "Okay, whatever you want."
After buying gifts for family and friends, it was time to buy something for herself, but Bai He went around and tried clothes from one store after another, but she still couldn't find the one that satisfied her.
Qi Lang said, "There are a few that are pretty good. Take them all. Why not?"
Bai He told him righteously, "Buying clothes is all about fate. I haven't come across that one piece of clothing that instantly makes me feel certain I won't be happy unless I own it. If I find other pieces that I think are okay, but I don't particularly want to buy them, nine times out of ten I'll buy them and wear them once or twice and then I won't want to wear them anymore."
Qi Lang analyzed this sentence thoughtfully: "It's the same principle as finding a boyfriend."
Bai He said: "But some clothes may not be the most amazing ones at first, but after wearing them once or twice, I feel quite comfortable and will keep wearing them. The more I wear them, the more I like them..."
"Why don't you just give me your ex-boyfriend's ID card?" he said sourly.
"Hahahaha, no way." Bai He patted him with a smile, "My ex-boyfriend is running all the way to his own death. You have no idea how infuriating he is."
"Then I really have to burn incense to thank him."
"So getting dressed is different from finding a boyfriend, and they can't be compared."
"Am I the one that amazed you at the beginning?" Qi Lang asked, "The one that you won't be happy without."
The little girl raised her eyebrows: "You ask even though you already know the answer."
"But I need to observe whether it's comfortable or not." He held her eyes tightly. "Is that so?"
She nodded seriously.
In the end, Bai He didn't buy anything in the mall, but when they walked out of the shopping district and came to the street supermarket, they did pick out some good things -
A very summery couple outfit: a mint green skirt for the girl, and a light white T-shirt and light green pants for the boy.
The two of them walked together in such fresh outfits, just like when they had just graduated from high school, as if they had never changed over the years.
After trying it on, Qi Lang didn't want to take it off, and he didn't allow Bai He to take it off. The two of them took many selfies on the street wearing couple outfits.
After learning that Bai He and Yan Yi had never worn couple outfits together, Qi Lang was tempted to post it on his Moments, visible only to one person. Bai He caught him in the act and said righteously, "If you dare, this couple outfit today will be our breakup gift."
After returning home, Qi Lang mysteriously pulled her to the terrace.
At some point, a sumptuous dinner was prepared on the terrace. The flames of the white candlesticks on the metal frames swayed in the wind, and the vast expanse of flaming clouds and sunset glow served as a gorgeous backdrop. It was so romantic that it felt like the continuation of a fairy tale...
"Is there a little surprise?" Bai He said to him with a smile.
"I have a gift for you." Qi Lang picked up the beautifully packaged small box on the table mysteriously, and took out a bottle of niche perfume with an English logo printed on it.
"I really like this smell." He sprayed a little in the air, letting the scent and atmosphere of the perfume envelop them both. "I wonder if you can get used to it."
Bai He closed his eyes and sniffed. It was a light scent of citrus ocean with a long and lingering aftertaste, as if the blue ocean was spreading and surrounding them.
She actually noticed it early on. When they met again, Qi Lang had a faint ocean scent on him. He must have been using this perfume.
"Why did you give me your perfume?" she asked curiously.
The man put his arms around her from behind, leaning against her neck, and said in a lazy and coquettish tone: "You and him, you always have the same smell."
"Um?"
"Now, I want you..." Qi Lang opened his eyes, "to have my scent."
Bai He lowered her head and stroked the glass bottle of perfume, looking at the white pattern on the glass with a relief of a small boat on the sea.
She didn't speak.
Qi Lang asked her to turn around, held her face in his hands, stared into her eyes, and said seriously: "We are best friends and confidants, so I never hide anything from you."
Bai He took a deep breath: "Well, go ahead."
"Actually, I'm not that tolerant. I wouldn't mind that you smell like him, that you called him the moment danger struck me, that you spent so much time together while we... only had a few short months. Even more, I'm concerned that he left unforgettable tears in your heart, and I'm afraid that these tears have transformed into love without you even noticing."
Bai He lowered his head and thought for a while, but he had no idea how to apologize, so he could only sigh softly.
"Actually, it's not Sayuri's fault. You've been together for more than two years. Every day for more than ten years, he has been piercing your heart like crazy, deeper and deeper."
"Qi, I've liked you for a long time too," she said.
“That’s my only joy.”
Qi Lang held her in his arms, caressing her cheek with his fingertips. "Little Lily, you're grown up now and know what you want, so I hope you'll seriously consider me. Consider all aspects of me, whether I'd be a suitable boyfriend or even a marriage partner. This includes my financial resources, my personal abilities, my character, and our mutual interests... Please give me this opportunity."
Bai He nodded vigorously.
The two of them had a romantic candlelight dinner with tenderness, and then hugged each other late at night to watch an old black-and-white movie.
Qi Lang's gaze never left her from beginning to end. His eyes were sticky and filled with a hint of desire. Bai He caught a glimpse of him and could hardly bear it. She felt hot and dry all over.
"Why are you just like Yan Yi? You don't enjoy watching the movie and you're distracted."
Qi Lang sniffed her ears gently and rubbed against her: "When I'm with you, only a fool would just want to watch a movie."
“…”
Bai He ignored him and turned back to watching the movie. He said with a hint of regret, "There's one more thing I forgot to add."
"What."
"It's not just strength, personality, and interests that need to be taken into consideration. There's another very important point." He whispered in her ear, almost silently, "Sexual ability is also a very important part."
Bai He tilted her head to look at him, and saw the desire in his dark, wet eyes that was almost uncontrollable...
"I didn't say no," she said. "It's you who doesn't want to."
Qi Lang sighed, closed his eyes, and leaned lazily on the sofa: "I don't want it to happen so early. I like to get better gradually and take it slow..."
"It's up to you, but don't disturb me while I'm watching the movie."
After a while, Qi Lang asked her again: "How is the translation?"
"What's going on?"
"He should be quite impressive. I've seen his before. It's not as big as mine, but it's quite unique."
“………..”
Bai He hit him speechlessly: "If you have nothing to say, you don't have to say it!"
"Does he have much work?"
"I don't know. Don't ask."
"I don't know?" He persisted. "What do you mean by 'I don't know'?"
"I don't know, we haven't done it."
Qi Lang raised his eyebrows: "No one would believe that."
"Believe it or not."
"Is this true?" Qi Lang knew Bai He wouldn't lie to him. He was shocked and puzzled at the same time. "Can he bear it?"
The dim light from the TV screen was projected onto the girl's face. She leaned against the soft cushion and said thoughtfully, "Maybe at that time, he had the same idea as you do now. He didn't want me to regret it."
Qi Lang thought to himself, he was not afraid that she would regret it, but he was afraid that she would see clearly.
Because the body doesn't lie.
You will know whether you love it or not after doing it once.
They are all afraid.
