Chapter 6 What are they saying in their gibberish?
The mysterious black-clad captain, completely forgotten by Nekono Ikuya, was unaware of his group's existence and was eventually exposed to the police.
Although the men in black did learn to be more cautious under his silent threat, it was too late no matter how careful they were. Their presence had already caught the attention of those with ulterior motives during the earlier search phase. Given the complicated situation brought about by the murder case, it was not surprising that the police caught them with clues.
The only good news is that none of these men in black have been mistakenly arrested so far, and the mysterious captain in black is no longer confused. He has finally understood the current chaotic situation and is preparing to take action.
This mysterious captain in black has a name that perfectly matches his all-black attire: Black.
A completely black outfit paired with a completely black name—nothing could be more fitting.
At this moment, the dark-skinned Blake no longer simply gazed thoughtfully at the police officers whose figures were faintly visible at the street corner not far away, but began to slowly approach.
He was tall and slender, wearing black heeled leather boots, but his footsteps were silent and his pace seemed slow but was actually fast, like a silent black ghost, drifting away in the blink of an eye, his figure heading straight for the police officer in front of him.
As the black phantom drew closer, the outline of the target police officer gradually became clearer in his eyes.
This police officer must be quite young. His silhouette in his uniform still reveals a hint of naivety, as if he has just entered the workforce. He has a very youthful demeanor.
The young police officer had his back to him, and a police car was parked quietly in front of him. Even though there was no one else around, the man's figure was still upright, and he even showed a bit of respect—because he was on the phone.
Without needing to discern the specific content, one could guess from the young officer's subconsciously proper posture while talking to the other end that the person he was talking to must be his superior, and a police chief whom he greatly respected.
Blake stopped abruptly, standing silently behind the young officer, ready to wait quietly for the other party to end the call.
He was standing neither too close nor too far from the young police officer, just within a range where he could see the officer's figure but not hear his voice.
He had no intention of eavesdropping on the conversation between the junior officer and the other officer; this was basic courtesy!
The young police officer, engrossed in the phone call, was unaware that a silent ghost had quietly appeared behind him; he was still listening intently to the voice coming from the other end of the line.
The sheriff, who was on the phone with him, had just learned from a junior officer the terrible news that a large number of mysterious men in black had been seen near the murder site. His heart sank, and many ominous guesses popped into his mind. So when he spoke again, his tone was extremely serious.
“Tell me more about those suspicious men in black.”
Even over the phone, this seriousness was clearly conveyed to the young officer, causing his expression to unconsciously become even more serious.
The young police officer's eyes darted around, his gaze shifting unpredictably as he pondered the descriptions of the mysterious man in black given by his fellow officers and concerned residents. He quickly organized his thoughts, trying to find the right words to describe the situation.
"Those men in black were uniformly dressed, all wearing black suits and sunglasses, and they were in groups of three to five, clearly searching for something with a specific purpose. Their organization and discipline were very high, making them not to be underestimated. Those men in black looked..."
As he spoke, the young police officer's gaze inadvertently swept across the window of the police car in front of him, and the dark shadow reflected in the window quickly passed over his retina.
Although it was just a fleeting glance, and most of his mind was still focused on thinking and talking, his subconscious alerted the young officer that something was wrong.
As he spoke, his speech unconsciously slowed down, his expression showing a hint of surprise, his gaze retracing the path he had taken, and then his eyes suddenly froze on a single point, fixed on the car window.
"What's wrong with those men in black? Hey...hey?!"
Because of this unexpected turn of events, the young officer choked up before he could finish speaking, and the unfinished words immediately alerted the seasoned police chief on the other end of the phone. He called out to the young officer urgently.
The junior officer was startled awake by the sheriff's loud call, but he still dared not move his eyes at all.
Just like when you've worked hard all day and are at your most tired and relaxed when you open the door to your home, only to be met with a terrifying ghost floating behind the door, the young police officer looked terrified, with large beads of cold sweat on his forehead.
He swallowed hard, slowly and stiffly turning his head, his tone erratic:
“Those men in black looked, looked just like…the ones behind me.”
As his gaze moved, a silent, black ghostly figure slowly emerged. In the backlit light, the ghost's lips seemed to be twisting into a smile.
With a 'thud,' the phone slipped from mid-air and hit the ground with a particularly loud sound, the voice coming from the receiver echoing in the quiet street.
"What did you say... Hello? Hello?!"
...
"I am very sorry for the misunderstanding and the trouble it has caused you. I also hope that the officer can understand if I have startled him."
A moment later, Blake, who had inadvertently startled a police officer and almost caused the police to misunderstand, stood in the center of the police station with a sincere attitude, almost causing the entire police station to be mobilized.
The misunderstanding had been cleared up, and everyone now knew that Blake and his group were not the mysterious thugs or members of a terrorist organization they had imagined, but rather a legitimate security team responsible for Nekono Ikuya's safety. With the alarm lifted, everyone was overjoyed and naturally relaxed.
Upon hearing Blake's apology, the sheriff waved and laughed heartily: "It's no big deal, it's all a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding."
It's good that they're not a criminal organization. Besides, these people are, after all, the Nekono family's private security team. The Nekono Group is no ordinary entity.
We might need to deal with them again sometime in the future, so there's no need to make things difficult for them because of a misunderstanding. After all, they've been very considerate and their attitude is quite sincere. The young master even helped report the murder to the police.
He glanced with a smile at the well-behaved, quiet, and beloved child, Nekono Ikuya, who was loved by everyone in the police station, and then slowly walked away.
The young police officer, who had just been frightened, scratched his head somewhat awkwardly and said, "N-no, it's okay. Actually, I overreacted a bit too much."
"Um... thank you."
He shook the new phone in his hand, which was slightly broken from being dropped due to the shock of the old model and which Blake insisted on compensating him for after he refused to accept it, and felt even more embarrassed.
That's too kind of you. He broke his phone by accident, and you insist on giving him a new one. It's really embarrassing.
It's okay, anyway, the cat family is very generous and gives him a lot of miscellaneous reimbursement allowances every year, and these are all within the reimbursement scope.
Blake thought to himself, not really caring.
After finishing off many trivial matters, Blake finally turned around and looked at Nekono Ikuya's position, just in time to meet Nekono Ikuya's wide, innocent cat eyes.
Blake: Head down, staring through his sunglasses into the distance.
Nekono Ikuya: He looks up, his cat eyes are deliberately wide open, he looks weak, innocent and pitiful, but he'll do it again next time!
Blake: His eyes squinted behind his sunglasses, oh!
A moment later, Blake sat down next to Nekono Ikuya: "&ˇ#$*¥%..."
Nekono Ikuya's eyes were vacant, and he was muttering something unintelligible.
Black recited a long string of lines fluently and skillfully, which was mostly a condemnation of Nekono Ikuya's despicable act of abandoning him. His tone was as if he were reading it aloud, as if he were completing a routine task.
Their familiarity with the process made it clear that they had gone through it more than once, which inexplicably evoked a sense of sadness.
Nekono Ikuya was equally proficient in this process, and could even estimate the average time it took Black to recite his lines. So, as soon as Black opened his mouth, she reflexively cleared her mind and switched to energy-saving mode.
Nekono Ikuya: So cute, but brainless.jpg
So when Blake abruptly stopped speaking, it took Nekono Ikuya a beat to realize it.
Nekono Ikuya turned her head slowly: Hmm? Why did you finish speaking so quickly this time?
He could clearly see Blake's sunglasses slowly lower as his head drooped, eventually coming to rest at a specific angle.
Nekono Ikuya: ? ? ?
His gaze followed the angle of Blake's sunglasses and immediately fell on the trash can under the table, which was filled with snack wrappers that Nekono Ikuya had eaten and thrown away.
Most importantly, there were also a large number of square blank dessert boxes stacked into small towers on the side. There were quite a few boxes, but they were all empty inside!
Nekono Ikuya: !!
He suddenly had a bad feeling.
Oh no! Some of these desserts were originally intended for Nekono Ikuya to share with his classmates, but Nekono Ikuya is stuck at the police station now, and he accidentally ate them all while watching the commotion.
Add to that the snacks the kind police officers fed me, and I've exceeded my dessert intake limit today!
Nekono Ikuya carefully observed Blake's movements, and sure enough, although Blake's body remained still, his right hand had already reached into his pocket and was slowly taking out a cell phone.
Blake: A slow smile appeared on his face.
Nekono Ikuya: I dare not open my eyes, hoping it's just an illusion.
As Blake raised his hand to turn on the screen, Nekono Ikuya suddenly leaped to the side and landed on Blake's bent arm.
"No, Blake can't tell Mommy about Yu Mi!"
Nekono Ikuya looked flustered, her eyes filled with rejection as she looked at Blake.
Both sides reacted strongly, much more so than before, as if in their eyes, consuming too much dessert was far more egregious than secretly shaking off bodyguards, something that was hard for outsiders to understand.
However, this seemed quite normal to Nekono Ikuya and Black. After all, Nekono Ikuya shaking off Black was just their daily battle of wits, a negotiation of tracking and counter-tracking techniques.
Being watched 24/7 is indeed unbearable for a cat that yearns for freedom. As Nekono Ikuya grows older, she needs to develop her self-defense capabilities. Being able to shake off Blake and the other bodyguards is a testament to her abilities.
Besides, they had known each other for many years, and their bizarre past experiences meant that Blake wasn't too worried about Nekono Ikuya's safety. When encountering bad guys, it was possible that either the bad guys or Nekono Ikuya would be more unlucky.
But consuming too many desserts is a different story; it's definitely a more serious issue.
Blake's eyes, hidden behind his sunglasses, stared at Nekono Ikuya, whose hands were clinging tightly to his forearms. He was immune to the soft, pleading look in Nekono Ikuya's eyes and hardened his heart to start dialing.
Nekono Ikuya remained silent: "..."
Damn, I've pretended too many times before; Blake is completely immune to his gaze now.
No, we have to use our trump card.
Nekono Ikuya instantly withdrew her gaze, her demeanor becoming calm and composed, and a mischievous smile appeared on her lips.
He first put his hands behind his back, then slowly stretched them out...
Blake's gaze froze instantly.
