Chapter 187 Small-time Thug

Pei Yanchuan waved his hand gently, revealing a relaxed smile: "It doesn't matter how long you wait." His attitude was composed, and his eyes revealed his doting and indulgent feelings towards Gu Yuanzhi.

Gu Yuanzhi was touched by his attitude, and her blush deepened. She lowered her head to adjust the shoulder strap of her backpack, then looked up at Pei Yanchuan, a determined glint in her eyes: "Then let's go, the library should open quite early."

Pei Yanchuan nodded, and the two walked side by side, their steps light and harmonious. Their shadows, long in the sunlight, swayed gently with their movements.

Along the way, the two discussed books and topics of study that interested them, occasionally exchanging views and insights on various issues. Pei Yanchuan would occasionally turn his head to look at Gu Yuanzhi, his eyes filled with admiration and joy.

Their figures gradually faded into the distance, disappearing along the path leading to the library. On this beautiful weekend, two young minds met in the ocean of knowledge, looking forward to a fulfilling and enjoyable time together.

Inside the library, Gu Yuanzhi and Pei Yanchuan were engrossed in their books, time slipping away unnoticed. It wasn't until the afternoon sun streamed through the windows that they were reminded it was lunchtime. The two packed up their books, left the library, and embarked on a journey to find delicious food.

They strolled through the bustling food street, eventually choosing a clean and tidy restaurant. After enjoying their meal, they decided to take a walk in the nearby library park to digest. The afternoon sun shone on them as they chatted easily, enjoying the tranquility.

As time passed and night fell, they returned to the food street and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner. After dinner, the two set off on their way home, chatting and laughing along the way, sharing the day's experiences.

However, as they reached the entrance of a dark alley, a sudden crisis shattered the tranquility of the night. Two thugs wielding daggers suddenly sprang out from the shadows, their voices threatening and vicious: "Hand over your money, or you'll be in for a world of hurt."

Pei Yanchuan reacted swiftly and decisively, immediately shielding Gu Yuanzhi behind him and using his body as a barrier. His eyes were resolute as he prepared to face these two uninvited guests.

But Gu Yuanzhi was no ordinary, weak girl; she had practiced martial arts since childhood and was exceptionally skilled. While Pei Yanchuan was still considering how to respond, she had already made her move swiftly. Her movements were agile and precise, and within a few rounds, the two thugs had been cleanly and decisively knocked to the ground.

Pei Yanchuan looked at Gu Yuanzhi, his eyes filled with admiration and surprise, as if to say, "You're amazing!" Gu Yuanzhi clapped her hands, appearing calm and composed: "This little trouble is no problem for me."

Seeing this, the two thugs realized they'd met their match, quickly got up, and slunk away. Pei Yanchuan couldn't help but exclaim, "Gu Yuanzhi, you've truly impressed everyone." His words were filled with admiration and pride.

Gu Yuanzhi smiled slightly and replied, "Sweating more in peacetime means bleeding less in wartime. This is all the result of regular training." Her words revealed confidence and strength.

This unexpected encounter didn't spoil their good mood; instead, it brought them closer together. They continued their journey home, their hearts filled with trust and reliance on each other.

The moment He Siyan stepped into his house, before he could even put down his luggage, he was immediately clung to by his little nephew. The little guy's eyes sparkled with anticipation as he shook his nephew's hand repeatedly, saying, "Uncle, Uncle, let's go out and play!" He Siyan smiled helplessly, noticing the undeniable threat in his mother's gaze. He had no choice but to reluctantly give up his vacation time to this lively little rascal.

Taking his young nephew with him, He Siyan went out to look for his friend. They strolled through the bustling shopping mall, enjoying their holiday leisure. However, just then, He Siyan's gaze inadvertently met someone—Yang Shanshan, his former student from military training. When Yang Shanshan saw him, a hint of surprise flashed across her face, but it quickly turned into annoyance.

She strode forward, her tone slightly questioning: "Why haven't you written to me?" He Siyan looked bewildered, his brows furrowing slightly as he wondered to himself, "Why should I write to her?" But he quickly realized that she was a girl and he needed to be careful with his words, so he didn't voice his doubts.

Looking at He Siyan's expression, Yang Shanshan seemed to have already found an explanation for his behavior in her mind. She said to herself, "Did you just get a day off today?" He Siyan nodded and answered concisely and sincerely, "Yes."

Yang Shanshan's expression softened slightly; she seemed somewhat embarrassed by her misunderstanding. She adjusted her tone and continued, "I thought you'd forgotten our agreement." He Siyan was startled. He didn't recall any agreement to write letters, but faced with Yang Shanshan's expectant gaze, he chose to remain silent, not wanting to embarrass her in public.

He Siyan's little nephew looked at the scene before him, feeling a little confused. He tugged at He Siyan's sleeve and asked in a low voice, "Uncle, who is this auntie?" He Siyan gently patted his little nephew's head and replied with a smile, "She is one of my students. We used to do military training together."

Upon hearing He Siyan's words, Yang Shanshan smiled with satisfaction. She seemed to have forgotten her previous unpleasantness and turned to He Siyan, saying, "Then we can keep in touch often, right?" He Siyan smiled and nodded, though he felt somewhat helpless inside, he still maintained his politeness and respect.

This unexpected encounter made He Siyan realize that even a short period of military training can leave a deep impression on students. As a soldier, he should set an example and influence and inspire others through his words and deeds.

Standing in the crowd at the mall, He Siyan suddenly had a flash of inspiration—he remembered helping his comrade deliver a letter to Yang Shanshan. He was about to explain when his little nephew grabbed his hand, his eyes sparkling with curiosity and longing for something new: "Uncle, look at that toy store over there! Let's go check it out!"

He Siyan was being dragged along by his nephew. He glanced back at Yang Shanshan, only to see her standing there, her expression shifting from expectation to embarrassment, and finally to displeasure. Her face darkened, as if she had been caught off guard by the sudden change: "That brat, he really has no sense of propriety."

Yang Shanshan's initial surprise turned to disappointment. She had thought He Siyan would give her a reasonable explanation, but the appearance of a child had disrupted her plans. She was filled with disappointment and resentment, feeling ignored.

He Siyan was also filled with mixed feelings. He knew he owed Yang Shanshan an explanation, but the current situation prevented him from stopping. He could only walk away while looking back, conveying his helplessness and apology to Yang Shanshan with his eyes.

The little nephew, oblivious to everything, continued excitedly pulling He Siyan forward, completely unaware of his uncle's awkward situation. He Siyan secretly resolved to explain things to Yang Shanshan at a suitable opportunity to prevent further misunderstanding.

Yang Shanshan watched He Siyan and the child's retreating figures, sighed deeply, and her anger gradually subsided. She knew that some things couldn't be judged by appearances alone; perhaps He Siyan truly had his own unspeakable difficulties.

This unexpected encounter, while unpleasant for Yang Shanshan, also made her realize how important communication and understanding between people are. She decided to give herself and He Siyan a chance and wait for his explanation.
