Chapter 203 Clearing Up the Misunderstanding

On Monday morning, Gu Yunxi returned to school, brimming with energy from the weekend. That evening, the dormitory lights were soft, promising a peaceful night, but Yang Shanshan's loud and boisterous conversation shattered the tranquility.

Gu Yunxi sat on her bed, her ears filled with Yang Shanshan's boasting about her boyfriend. She didn't want to listen to this pointless bragging, so she picked up a towel and decided to take a shower, hoping to enjoy some peace and quiet when she returned.

After showering, Gu Yunxi sat back on the bed, opened a book, and tried to shut out the noise from the outside world through reading. But Yang Shanshan didn't seem to let her off the hook. She walked over and sat directly on the edge of Gu Yunxi's bed, continuing her boasting.

Yang Shanshan's friends joined the conversation, and one of them asked curiously, "Shanshan, who pursued whom between you and Instructor He?" Yang Shanshan replied proudly, "Of course, he pursued me first. I didn't like him at first. Although he was handsome, I didn't want to marry a poor soldier in the future."

She paused, then continued, "But my cousin was his classmate at school, and she said his family is very wealthy." Yang Shanshan's tone carried a hint of pride, as if emphasizing how wise her final choice was.

Inside the dormitory, Yang Shanshan's girlfriends surrounded her, listening to her recount her love story with her boyfriend. One of them said with a hint of awe and envy, "When we were training, I thought he was so serious, I was even a little afraid of him. I never expected him to confess first. Shanshan, you're so charming."

Upon hearing this, Yang Shanshan proudly raised her chin, as if enjoying the praise and envious gaze: "Of course." Her smile was full of pride and satisfaction.

However, after hearing these words, Gu Yunxi felt a sense of doubt. Interrupting Yang Shanshan's boasting, Gu Yunxi asked directly, "Who did you say your boyfriend is?"

Yang Shanshan didn't notice Gu Yunxi's strange behavior and replied smugly, "You know He Siyan, the previous instructor, don't you?"

Gu Yunxi's voice was calm but tinged with inquiry. She looked directly at Yang Shanshan and slowly asked, "Are you sure? But when I met He Siyan before, he said that he and you weren't in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship." Her words revealed a hint of doubt, but she also maintained politeness, not wanting to cause a direct conflict.

The atmosphere in the dormitory suddenly became tense. Yang Shanshan's girlfriends also sensed this unusual atmosphere. Their voices gradually lowered as they turned their attention to the standoff in front of them.

Upon hearing Gu Yunxi's words, Yang Shanshan's expression changed, her voice filled with obvious anger and disbelief: "What nonsense are you talking about? He even sent me a letter on the day military training ended." Her eyes were firm, as if she was using the last bit of strength to maintain her pride and the truthfulness of her story.

Gu Yunxi remained calm in the face of Yang Shanshan's rebuttal. Her voice was calm and clear, revealing a sense of certainty: "That letter wasn't written by him; it was given to you by his comrade-in-arms." Her explanation was direct and forceful, clearly demonstrating a thorough understanding of the truth of the matter.

Yang Shanshan became agitated, a look of grievance and anger at being misunderstood appearing on her face: "You're just jealous of me. You can't stand that I'm better than you, and that my partner is more successful than yours." Her tone was sharp, as if she was using aggressive words to mask her unease.

Faced with Yang Shanshan's accusations, Gu Yunxi did not show any agitation or anger. Her eyes revealed a calm and rationality: "Then make a phone call and see if what I said is true." Her suggestion was simple and direct, aiming to clarify the truth with facts.

Yang Shanshan was challenged by Gu Yunxi's calmness and confidence. Her pride was aroused, and her voice carried a hint of provocation: "Fine, let's fight. Who's afraid of who?" She ran down to the dormitory building, and the other students in the dormitory followed her down.

Yang Shanshan's feelings were complicated. She gripped the phone tightly, as if it were her last lifeline. After greeting the dormitory supervisor, she mustered her courage and dialed the military unit's number. The operator on the other end of the line spoke calmly and officially, telling her to wait a moment before transferring her to He Siyan.

The wait, though short, felt incredibly long to Yang Shanshan. Her heart raced, her palms sweated slightly, and she was filled with uncertainty and anxiety. Finally, He Siyan's voice came from the other end of the phone. His voice was deep and magnetic, with a hint of doubt: "Hello, this is He Siyan."

Yang Shanshan took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and then replied, "It's me, Yang Shanshan." Her voice trembled slightly, clearly showing her nervousness about the conversation that was about to begin.

On the other end of the phone, He Siyan's voice revealed obvious doubt. He really didn't remember having any in-depth interaction with this person who called herself Yang Shanshan: "I don't know this person either." He wondered to himself, could it be that he had forgotten some important person or thing?

Immediately afterward, Yang Shanshan's voice came through the phone line, tinged with a hint of smugness and a reminder: "You wrote me a letter the night military training ended. Don't we usually write letters to each other?" Her words seemed to be a prompt to He Siyan, trying to jog his memory.

He Siyan remained silent for a moment, his mind racing as he recalled past events. Suddenly, he remembered that Gu Yunxi had also misunderstood his relationship with Yang Shanshan. A thought struck him, and he quickly explained, "That letter wasn't written to you voluntarily; it was entrusted to me by my comrade-in-arms, Wang Hu, to give it to you." His tone was urgent, hoping to clear up the misunderstanding as soon as possible.

Yang Shanshan was stunned on the other end of the phone. She hadn't expected He Siyan to give such an explanation. He Siyan's honesty caught her off guard, and her resolve began to waver; her once firm beliefs started to crack.

The phone quality was indeed poor, but what the other person said was clearly audible to them. Gu Yunxi remained silent, while Yang Shanshan's best friend stepped forward to comfort the woman, who was furious and almost out of control. However, Yang Shanshan was unmoved, forcefully slapping the other person's hand away and roaring into the phone, "Go and call the comrade who sent you to deliver the message right now! I want to question him myself!"

Seeing this, He Siyan stopped provoking her and hung up the phone, then turned to find Wang Hu: "Your girlfriend is looking for you." At this moment, Wang Hu was immersed in joy and completely unaware of a problem—why did his girlfriend need to go through He Siyan to contact him? He walked excitedly towards the communications room, his heart filled with anticipation and happiness.
