Chapter 189 Awkwardness

Gu Yunxi was laughing and chatting with her friends at the hot pot restaurant, but she felt she needed some space to calm down after her unexpected encounter with He Siyan. She made an excuse to go to the restroom, hoping the cold water would calm her down.

Emerging from the restroom, she straightened her clothes, preparing to return to her friends. However, she unexpectedly ran into He Siyan. He Siyan's comrade had accidentally soiled his clothes, and he was wiping them with a tissue, looking somewhat embarrassed.

Their eyes met in the corridor, and a complex mix of emotions welled up in Gu Yunxi's heart. She snorted coldly, wanting to brush past her as if nothing had happened. But this time, He Siyan didn't let her leave so easily.

He quickly reached out and grabbed Gu Yunxi's wrist, his voice carrying a hint of insistence: "Gu Yunxi, please wait a moment. I want to know why you have such a big problem with me?" His eyes revealed a hint of confusion and seriousness.

Gu Yunxi was both surprised and amused; she was almost amused by He Siyan's bluntness and incomprehension. She pulled her hand away from his, looked him straight in the eye, and said with a hint of provocation, "What, Instructor He, have you forgotten so quickly? You targeted me for your girlfriend before, and you've already forgotten?"

He Siyan's face showed an even more confused expression. He frowned and looked somewhat bewildered: "What girlfriend? I don't have a girlfriend." His voice revealed a hint of innocence, as if he really didn't understand what Gu Yunxi was talking about.

Gu Yunxi felt a little impatient. She thought He Siyan was pretending to be stupid. That Yang Shanshan often bragged in the dormitory that she had found a handsome soldier and had sent a whole basketful of letters. She was still pretending here.

Gu Yunxi's dissatisfaction was like ignited gunpowder; she found He Siyan's cowardly attitude despicable. She raised an eyebrow, a cold glint in her eyes, and was about to turn and leave, ending this pointless conversation.

However, He Siyan acted faster. He grabbed Gu Yunxi's wrist again, his tone firm and sincere: "Please give me an explanation, Gu. When did I get a girlfriend? And why am I targeting you?" His eyes revealed a hint of confusion and urgency, hoping to find out the truth.

Gu Yunxi took a deep breath and decided to speak frankly. She looked directly at He Siyan, her voice tinged with anger: "Your girlfriend, Yang Shanshan, is my roommate. We don't get along. You've been targeting me during military training. Weren't you standing up for her?" Her words came out like a machine gun, every word filled with doubt and dissatisfaction.

He Siyan was stunned. He felt more wronged than Dou E, and a look of exasperation appeared on his face: "That Yang Shanshan is my comrade's girlfriend, and has nothing to do with me. As for the military training, I only let you go on stage to demonstrate for the classmates because I saw that your movements were quite standard. How could I be targeting you?" His explanation was tinged with helplessness, as if he was trying to clear up this misunderstanding.

As Gu Yunxi listened to He Siyan's explanation, her anger gradually subsided. A hint of doubt flashed in her eyes as she began to re-examine the man before her. She realized that there might indeed be some misunderstanding, and perhaps her judgment of him had been too hasty.

Gu Yunxi frowned, her voice filled with obvious distrust: "But I saw you deliver the letter to her with my own eyes." Her eyes were firm, clearly deeply impressed by what she had seen and heard.

He Siyan chuckled softly, a hint of helplessness in his smile: "My comrade asked me to deliver it. I swear, it really wasn't me." His tone was light, but his eyes revealed sincerity, trying to dispel Gu Yunxi's doubts.

He didn't give Gu Yunxi much time to think, directly grabbing her arm and leading her to their table. This sudden action caught Gu Yunxi off guard, but it also piqued her curiosity.

When they reached the table, He Siyan patted Wang Hu on the shoulder and asked, "Hu Zi, the night military training ended, did you ask me to deliver a letter to your girlfriend?" Wang Hu looked confused, but nodded anyway, "Yeah, why?"

He Siyan turned to look at Gu Yunxi and explained, "This young classmate misunderstood me. She thought I was your girlfriend's boyfriend and was targeting her, so she has a problem with me." His voice carried a hint of mockery, but more so a determination to clear up the misunderstanding.

Wang Hu understood the situation and joined in the explanation: "Yes, I really asked Lao He to deliver that letter. Gu, you've really misunderstood."

Gu Yunxi stood there, feeling her face flush red to the roots of her neck, as if she could be used to make pancakes. She lowered her head awkwardly, a wave of shame washing over her: "I'm sorry." Her voice was almost inaudible, clearly showing how embarrassed she was of her misunderstanding.

Seeing Gu Yunxi's expression, He Siyan didn't press further. Instead, he said gently, "It's alright, the misunderstanding is cleared up." His tolerant attitude prevented Gu Yunxi from feeling even more embarrassed.

Gu Yunxi looked up and gave He Siyan a grateful smile. Her mood gradually changed from awkward to relieved: "Thank you, Instructor He. I was too arbitrary."

Gu Yunxi's feelings were complicated. She felt that she had not only misunderstood He Siyan, but had also lost face in front of him. She hurriedly said goodbye, almost fleeing from He Siyan's sight. Her cheeks were still flushed with shame, and she secretly blamed herself for her impulsiveness.

Watching Gu Yunxi's hurried departure, He Siyan couldn't help but shake his head and smile. Although the misunderstanding was cleared up, he understood Gu Yunxi's feelings at that moment. He knew that this misunderstanding must have made her feel extremely embarrassed.

Nevertheless, Gu Yunxi didn't want to leave just like that. She had an urge to somehow make up for her misunderstanding of He Siyan. After finishing her meal and preparing to pay the bill, she made a decision: she secretly paid the bill for He Siyan's table as well.

This action was both an apology and a gesture of gratitude for her. She knew it couldn't completely make up for her mistake, but it was at least a way for her to express her sincerity. After paying the bill, she didn't linger but quickly left the hot pot restaurant with her friends.

Stepping out of the hot pot restaurant, Gu Yunxi felt as if she had been freed from the oppressive atmosphere. A cool breeze brushed her face, and she took a deep breath of fresh air, savoring the crispness and coolness of winter. Her chest heaved, as if at this moment she could finally breathe freely and release all the frustration and embarrassment in her heart.

She had never experienced such a humiliating moment. The feeling of being misunderstood and scrutinized in front of others sent her emotions on a rollercoaster. But as the hot pot restaurant door slowly closed behind her, the tension and unease dissipated.

Gu Yunxi looked up at the night sky. The snowflakes continued to fall silently, and her mood gradually calmed down. She knew that everyone makes mistakes, and everyone faces awkward moments. The important thing is how to learn from them and how to face them with a more mature attitude.

Qian Ziyi noticed her silence and cast concerned glances at her. She gently patted her shoulder and asked softly, "Yunxi, are you alright?" Gu Yunxi returned a reassuring smile: "I'm fine, I just felt a little embarrassed just now."
