As their return date to the United States approached, Herizal and his wife began preparing for their trip. They checked their luggage together, making sure all the necessary documents and items were ready. While packing, Herizal noticed a hint of relief in his wife's expression, which further convinced him that his decision was correct.
Before leaving, they prepared a sumptuous dinner for Huang Haitang to express their gratitude and respect. At the table, He Ruizhe raised his glass and said affectionately, "Grandma, thank you for your care and support all this time. Although we are going back to America, please rest assured that we will keep your teachings in mind and will come home to visit often."
A tear glistened in Huang Haitang's eyes, but she smiled and nodded, "Ruize, go ahead. Grandma knows you have your own paths to walk, and I only hope you can be happy."
After dinner, He Ruilin and He Ruiqi joined the conversation. They assured their older brother and sister-in-law that they would visit their grandparents often and keep them informed about the family's situation. He Ruilin playfully said, "Brother, don't worry, we'll keep a close eye on Grandma and make sure she doesn't put too much pressure on you."
He Ruizhe and his wife smiled and nodded gratefully. He Ruizhe said, "Thank you. With you here, we feel much more at ease."
On the night before their departure, He Ruizhe and his wife stood on the balcony, gazing at the starry sky. He Ruizhe said softly, "When we get back, we can start over and focus on our own lives and plans."
His wife nestled in his arms and whispered, "Yes, we will work together to create our own happiness."
The next day, He Ruizhe and his wife, filled with longing for their home and anticipation for the future, boarded a flight back to the United States. They silently made a promise in their hearts: no matter where they were, the warmth of home and the love of their family would always be their driving force.
Huang Haitang, though reluctant to part, was also proud of her grandson and granddaughter-in-law's understanding and maturity. She knew their relationship had become stronger because of this open and honest exchange. She decided that from now on, she would respect the choices of young people more and continue to bless them from afar.
Xia Liang felt helpless when she learned that Huang Haitang's emotional state was affected by He Zhiyi's illness, and that she was indirectly expressing her desire to have a child through the food at home. She felt sorry for her grandson He Ruizhe who was under tremendous pressure, and also sympathized with Huang Haitang's situation. As the mother-in-law of her son-in-law, and being of similar age, Xia Liang could understand Huang Haitang's anxiety and expectations for the family's future.
Xia Liang understands that although Huang Haitang's actions may have put pressure on the children, they stem from her concern for the continuation of the family and her wishes for the children's happiness. Xia Liang might choose to communicate with Huang Haitang, using her wisdom and compassion to ease the situation, while also comforting He Ruizhe, letting him know that understanding and support among family members are the most important things.
Xia Liang might encourage Huang Haitang to find new hobbies or participate in social activities to divert her excessive focus from her grandson and granddaughter-in-law's childbirth. At the same time, Xia Liang would also remind Huang Haitang that respecting the choices and lifestyles of young people is crucial to avoid unnecessary family conflicts.
With the help of the cool summer breeze, the family atmosphere may gradually become more harmonious, and Huang Haitang may also gain a better understanding of the younger generation's thoughts and needs. He Ruizhe and his wife will also feel the love and support from both families, thus reducing their stress.
After careful consideration, Xia Liang decided to take action. She invited Huang Haitang to join an interest group, hoping that such social activities would broaden Huang Haitang's horizons and also alleviate her pressure regarding her grandson and granddaughter-in-law having children.
“Haitang, I know you care about Ruize and the others, but you know that young people these days have their own ideas and plans,” Xia Liang said gently. “As elders, we should give them some space and time.”
Although Huang Haitang was somewhat reluctant to listen to Xia Liang's words, she understood that Xia Liang made sense. She nodded, indicating that she was willing to try to understand the young man's thoughts.
Xia Liang continued, "I join a gardening club with lots of fun activities. I'd like to invite you to come along so we can do something meaningful together and maybe even meet some new friends."
A flicker of interest crossed Huang Haitang's eyes. She had always loved flowers and plants, but due to family matters, she hadn't properly tended to her little garden in a long time. She accepted Xia Liang's invitation and decided to give herself a chance to try something new.
At the gardening club, Huang Haitang quickly integrated into this vibrant and energetic group. She and the other members learned how to prune flowers, how to arrange different colored blooms, and even began to try designing their own small gardens. These activities not only kept her hands busy but also gradually brightened her mood.
As time went by, Huang Haitang mentioned having children less frequently. She began to focus more on her own life, enjoying conversations with friends and the pleasures of gardening. She realized that although she longed for the continuation of her family line, her life could be just as fulfilling.
He Ruizhe and his wife also noticed the changes in their grandmother, and they were grateful for Xia Liang's efforts and understanding. They knew that although they weren't ready to have children yet, the support and love of their family were their most precious treasure.
With her compassion and wisdom, Xia Liang helped Huang Haitang find new focus and joy in life, making the whole family atmosphere more harmonious. She proved that even the most complex family problems can be solved through communication and understanding.
