Chapter 171 Wounded

In the dimly lit living room, Scarface sat on a worn-out sofa, waiting for the long-overdue transfer from Xia Liang's family. Time ticked by, his patience gradually eroded by boredom and anxiety. To pass the time, he ordered his men to bring out a deck of cards, beginning a tense and exciting game. Meanwhile, the bodies of his brothers who had tragically perished in the fight had already been secretly thrown into the deep sea by his loyal subordinates, disappearing into the endless waves.

Suddenly, a series of hurried footsteps shattered the silence inside the room. A henchman on guard duty, his face filled with barely concealed panic, rushed into the room and breathlessly reported, "Boss, there are police outside!" Scarface abruptly stood up, scattering his playing cards across the table like raindrops. A ruthless glint flashed in his eyes as he silently calculated his next move.

His eyes suddenly sharpened, as if a sense of foreboding had flashed through his mind. Without the slightest hesitation, he abruptly stood up, strode towards the tightly closed door, pushed it open forcefully, and entered the room with heavy steps. He grabbed Xia Liang by the collar, his voice low and threatening: "Did you call the police?"

A look of innocence and fear appeared on Xia Liang's face. Her voice trembled, yet carried a hint of defense: "Weren't you listening in on the phone just now? Besides, how could I possibly call the police when I was locked up here?" A cold smile flashed across the scarred man's face, and his voice was as cold as a winter wind: "It better not be you." Before he finished speaking, he had already begun to consider his escape plan.

At this moment, the young man who had been giving him advice walked over, his eyes gleaming with cunning: "Brother, why don't we take them with us? They can be our bargaining chips in a critical moment."

Scarface pondered for a moment, finding the suggestion quite reasonable. He stepped forward, roughly grabbed Xia Liang's arm, and yanked her up from the ground. A sharp blade pressed against Xia Liang's delicate neck, and his voice rang out again, this time even colder: "Come on, let's go out together."

Xia Liang helplessly followed Scarface's steps, her heart filled with a sense of powerlessness. Chen Yanling and her three fellow disciples, along with Ji Xiao, were all suffering from varying degrees of pain. At this moment, they were powerless to resist and could only drag their heavy steps behind Xia Liang, running forward together.

One of Scarface's henchmen, looking anxious, rushed into the room and hurriedly reported, "Boss, we think we've let the cat out of the bag. There are police everywhere outside, and the whole village is surrounded!"

Scarface's expression turned unusually grave, a sense of foreboding rising within him. Was this the day he would end his life in the underworld? No, that was impossible. Scarface wasn't the kind of person to give in easily.

A resolute glint flashed in his eyes, as if he were searching for a last glimmer of hope deep within his heart. He knew he had to remain calm and find a way out. He looked around, trying to find a sliver of hope amidst the chaos.

"Don't panic!" Scarface commanded in a deep voice, his tone exuding unquestionable authority. "We haven't lost yet. As long as I, Scarface, am still here, there's always a chance to turn the tide."

Scarface's eyes suddenly turned cold and resolute. He turned to Xia Liang, a cold smile playing on his lips, his voice laced with mockery: "If all else fails, we still have hostages here. I refuse to believe they can disregard the lives of ordinary people." Despite the threat in his words, his pace of escape did not slow down in the slightest, as if he were racing against time.

Their footsteps echoed in the dimly lit alley, each sound like a countdown to death. Just as they were about to reach the sea and see the fishing boat waiting for them, a cold voice suddenly came from behind, shattering the tranquility of the night: "Don't move, we are the police, you are surrounded."

Scarface reacted swiftly and decisively, pulling Xia Liang close to him and pressing the blade against her neck. Xia Liang felt a chill on her neck, the touch of death. Her heart almost stopped, and fear swept through her body like a cold current.

The surrounding air seemed to freeze; the shouts of the police, the crashing of the waves, and Xia Liang's rapid breathing mingled together, creating a tense yet desperate scene. A resolute glint flashed in Scarface's eyes; he knew this was his last bargaining chip, his only way out.

A smug glint flashed in the scarred man's eyes; he sensed the policeman's hesitation and helplessness. His voice echoed in the night, carrying an undeniable threat: "Back off, or I'll kill them!" His words were like a sharp knife, slicing through the tense atmosphere.

Faced with Scarface's threat, the police officers froze, their expressions a mixture of seriousness and worry. Seeing their immobility, Scarface grew even more smug. He tightened his grip on the knife slightly, and bright red blood immediately seeped from Xia Liang's neck. The bloodstain stood out starkly in the moonlight, like a blooming rose, yet carrying the aura of death.

Xia Liang felt a sharp pain, her eyes filled with fear and despair. The police officers, witnessing this, tensed up; they knew they couldn't hesitate any longer. One of the officers, clearly in charge, tried to calm the scarred man, saying, "Okay, we won't do anything. We'll do as you say."

As he spoke, he gestured for the surrounding police officers to step back, making way for Scarface and his accomplices. The officers retreated slowly, each step heavy, their eyes filled with resentment and anger, but also with concern for Xia Liang's safety.

Seeing this, Scarface felt a slight sense of relief, but he knew this was only temporary safety; real danger awaited them. He had to find a chance to escape as soon as possible, taking Xia Liang and the other hostages with him, and fleeing this desperate situation surrounded by the police.

In the tense standoff, the lead policeman's gaze pierced the night, exchanging a knowing look with the sniper lurking in the shadows. The sniper nodded slightly, indicating that everything was ready. Time seemed to freeze at that moment, the air thick with the tension of impending conflict.

Suddenly, a gunshot ripped through the night sky like a thunderbolt, instantly leaving a gaping hole in Scarface's arm. The excruciating pain caused his arm to buckle, and the knife slipped from Xia Liang's neck. The police officer in the shadows seized the opportunity, swiftly and precisely pulling the trigger again, the bullet striking Scarface squarely in the heart.

Scarface was utterly enraged by this sudden blow; his eyes were filled with despair and rage. In that life-or-death moment, he mustered his last ounce of strength, and the blade in his hand mercilessly pierced Xia Liang's body.
