134 Wilderness Survival
◎Ye Zhizhi saw the wolf shadow he had been thinking about day and night.◎
There is no time in the mountains, and the four seasons cycle again and again.
Nothing in the forest seemed to have changed at all. The ancient and strange trees still stood silently, vines grew wildly, and rugged rocks lay on the ground. The creatures in the forest seemed to have changed and yet seemed to have remained the same.
What has changed is that new life is born and grows, replacing the dead ones. What remains unchanged is that it is still the same species, witnessing everything in the jungle.
The giraffe stood at the edge of the jungle, raising its long neck high to nibble on the tender leaves in the air, pulling the branches and leaves to shake, and looking around vigilantly from time to time.
Not far away, a thick dead tree lay across the forest. Behind the dead tree, next to a moss-covered rock, a faint sound could be heard, like the sound of flapping wings. Sniffing carefully, the air was filled with the smell of rotten flesh and blood.
Looking forward, I saw the remains of prey left on the ground at some point, which attracted vultures that feed on carrion. Several vultures were pecking at the blurry flesh on the huge skeleton with blood and flesh residue.
Not long after, a giant wolf suddenly appeared from the direction of the jungle. It appeared silently, leaped out from behind the bushes, and landed on the ground with its limbs lightly without making any movement. Its silver hair gleamed with tiny rays of light in the sunlight shining through the branches and leaves.
And on the back of the silver wolf, sat a little human girl.
Her big, bright black eyes were full of spirit, and she looked around with interest, as if she was curious and nostalgic.
Behind them, more and more wolves appeared silently and followed the silver wolf. Two of them carried two huge packages on their backs, one on the left and one on the right.
A huge snake head suddenly emerged from a huge rock half-hidden in the grass. It moved its scarlet tongue and slowly revealed its thick body. Not far below the python's head, there was also a large package tied to it.
There was a strong and tall brown bear under a nearby tree. It raised its head and looked at the towering tree trunk with its bear eyes carefully, as if trying to see if there was a beehive there.
After they appeared, the vultures that were originally devouring the carrion seemed to be frightened. They flapped their wings and screamed loudly and flew away, circling in the air.
The herbivorous animals on the edge also saw the sudden appearance of a group of predators.
The giraffe's vision can see very high and far. When it saw such a harmonious scene in the jungle, it was so stunned that it even forgot to run away. It opened its big and bright eyes and stared at this group of powerful predators walking out of the jungle silently, wondering why these terrifying predators could get along so harmoniously with each other.
It was not until a strong breath hit the giraffe in the face that it reacted and ran away in panic.
This group of animals, of different species but living very close to each other, are Ye Zhizhi and her little friends.
They saw vultures taking flight in fright and giraffes running away in front of them.
But they didn't care. From the wolves' not-so-empty stomachs, it could be seen that they were full. When they were not hungry, they were still very friendly. Even if the prey passed by their faces, they would not hunt it.
Ye Zhizhi looked at the familiar scenery, a feeling of nostalgia flashing in his eyes. This place with abundant prey was where wolves often hunted.
Strictly speaking, Ye Zhizhi didn't hunt here very often. She spent more time outside, but the tribe's territory and this hunting wilderness seemed to be engraved in her bones, and every blade of grass and every tree could be found in her memory.
They are finally back!
Ye Zhizhi and his friends spent another rainy season and winter in the canyon, waiting for the ice and snow to melt the next year.
When the river receded, revealing the riverbed, the stone road she and her friends had built finally came to light. Ye Zhizhi carefully inspected it inch by inch, finding no damage to the road, not a single stone washed away by the rain.
If there was any shortcoming, it was that some of the plants she planted did not have time to grow properly and were carried away by the water, revealing the bare stone surface, which looked quite mottled.
But this is normal. She had just planted them not long ago and it was already the rainy season. Most of them are still alive now, which shows that these plants have strong vitality.
She replanted more plants and added a wave of vines on top, aiming to completely cover the path with plant roots.
With her biggest worry resolved, Ye Zhizhi was ready to leave. She hadn't been back for two years and could no longer suppress her longing. She couldn't wait to bring the wolf pack here.
Ye Zhizhi thought about the perfect territory they had spent nearly two years building. They hoped it would not be occupied by other animals after they left. Even if they could take it back later, everything in the cave would be destroyed and would no longer be beautiful.
Ye Zhizhi thought about it and decided to interweave the vines on both sides of the narrow passage in the canyon towards each other, letting them grow towards the passage, and then put a stone in the middle of the passage. In this way, when spring and summer come, the vines and branches will cover the passage and the rocks, and the cave inside will not be easily discovered.
This will not affect the normal entry and exit of squirrels. After all, they are small in size and can directly drill in and out through the gaps in the vines.
Ye Zhizhi thought about the distance between the two sides. If it was fast, they could migrate here before the rainy season this year. If it was slow, they would have to wait until the beginning of next spring.
Her worries weren't unfounded. After Ye Zhizhi decided to return to Chaoxue, they'd made early preparations. After confirming that the stone path didn't require much repair, they planted numerous plants in just two days. Whether they could survive from then on depended entirely on their own perseverance.
Then they left, covering the entrance and exit of the passage before leaving.
Ye Zhizhi originally thought that they would be able to return to Chaoxue in less than a month, but they encountered many dangers along the way.
She thought that the wolves were migrating and they should find a fast, convenient and safe route, so she asked her friends to lead the way.
The way she entered the canyon was definitely not feasible. Ye Zhizhi was confused throughout the whole process and even fainted for quite a while. She didn't even remember how she got in with the water.
But I really want to walk along the river.
She still remembered the area where the giant eagle hunted before she fell into the water. The prey was no less than here. If the distance was not too far, it could also serve as a backup hunting area for the wolves.
If you think about it this way, the prey resources here are very abundant.
However, Yin Yi did not know the route Ye Zhizhi had taken at the time. After discovering Ye Zhizhi at the bottom of the cliff, Yin Yi immediately tried to go down by himself, but when he found that it was not feasible, he immediately ran out and summoned the wolf pack to join him.
Then let’s look for Ye Zhizhi together.
They couldn't go down the cliff directly, so they had to take a detour. Fortunately, the place where they took a detour passed by a stream. Ye Zhizhi was not lurking at the bottom of the water all the time, and later floated up. Therefore, they smelled a faint scent on the water surface and searched along the river.
In this way, the main focus of the search was on Xiaohua and Damo, but the scent was too faint, and there were many forks in the water flow, and the underground river was turbulent, so it took a lot of time.
Therefore, wolves and other animals do not know the plain that Ye Zhizhi wants to go to.
They also did not return by the same route and jump over the cliff, but took another route.
This road leads to Xiaohua's nest. They then discovered that the new territory is not far from Xiaohua's nest. Compared to the distance that originally took a month to walk, it only takes five or six days to get from the canyon to Xiaohua's nest.
This area of the canyon is also in the center of the forest, but Ye Zhizhi estimated that it was not the most central place.
They thought that taking the familiar route would allow them to return to the territory faster, but they never expected to encounter a giant monster on the way. They were almost targeted, but fortunately they ran fast.
Ye Zhizhi discovered that a new monster appeared in the area where they had killed a monster.
According to her many years of experience in the jungle, where such giant monsters appear, there must be good things, not to mention that they are encircled by monsters and become their territory. She just doesn't know what the good things are in that area.
When I killed that monster, I didn't go to its lair to search it. It was such a pity to miss it.
The monster occupying that place now looks difficult to deal with, and its aura seems even stronger than the original one.
Ye Zhizhi thought that since they had no grudges against each other, he couldn't provoke them casually, so he tried to avoid them.
With the monster around, it's impossible to take this route. If they accidentally alarm the other party, they will be at a disadvantage facing it head-on. Their last victory was not solely due to their own strength, but also had a greater factor of luck.
When Ye Zhizhi and a group of friends returned to the territory after much difficulty, spring had passed and it was the hottest summer of the year.
Because they took a detour, the first place they arrived at was the wasteland where wolves often hunted.
There were no signs of wolves in the wilderness, which showed that they were not hunting today and should be staying in their territory.
If they go back now, they will see the familiar wolves immediately.
As if sensing Ye Zhizhi's growing excitement, Yin Yi quickened his pace, and the group of animals rushed towards the wolf pack's territory.
Ye Zhizhi looked at the plants and trees around her. Even the grain of the plants gave her a sense of familiarity. This was where she grew up. She had once sat on the back of the wolf mother and measured every inch of land.
The territory is getting closer.
Ye Zhizhi saw the wolf pack's territory from afar. Not only was she excited, but Erzong and the others were also very excited. They couldn't wait to howl loudly: "Awoo--"
There was a slight movement coming from the territory. Before Ye Zhizhi and the others entered the territory, they saw two wolves appearing at the edge of the territory.
They seemed to be nearby. After hearing Erzong's cry, they were alert at first. When they no longer hid their breath, they smelled a familiar scent. It was the wolves of the same tribe returning.
“Ouch—”
They not only smelled the scent of their own kind, but also a strange and powerful scent.
Ye Zhizhi and the others ran to the edge of the territory. Yin Yi slowed down his pace and stopped in front of the two wolves.
Ye Zhizhi tilted her head and looked at the two wolves that looked strange yet familiar. She sniffed and recognized them as Uncle Dahei's two wolf cubs, Xiaohei and Sizong.
When the three siblings grew up, they could have gone out with them, but they ran very fast and went out to gain experience on their own.
Ye Zhizhi counted on her fingers and realized that they hadn't seen each other for three years. No wonder she had grown so big and looked completely different from the childish appearance in her memory.
The two wolves, Little Black, came over and sniffed the scent of Silver One and Two Brown.
At this time, there was movement in the territory, and soon Ye Zhizhi saw the wolf shadow he had been thinking about day and night.
Ye Zhizhi immediately pouts, slides down from Yin Yi's back, and runs towards the silver wolf with tears in his eyes.
"Awooo--" Wolf Mom, I miss you so much!
