Chapter 144 Don't Touch Me

Upon hearing this, Madam Zhao sighed and looked at Pei Shuwan, saying, "Then let me freshen up, and then I'll take you to the North Garden to see Consort Ming."

Upon hearing this, Pei Shuwan's eyes immediately reddened, and she held Zhao's hand as tears streamed down her face again.

Seeing this, Madam Zhao felt a pang of sadness and couldn't help but offer some gentle words of comfort. After getting everything ready, she took Pei Shuwan out the door.

The Pei family was thrown into chaos by this sudden change, with everyone in a state of panic. The normally strictly managed Pei family was completely unaware that Pei Shuwan was already on her way to Beiyuan.

Beiyuan.

Shen Mingzhuang was packing his things, preparing to move out.

Does Jiang Wang mean that if Jiang Wang drags this out for another day, she has to stay in Beiyuan for another day? Is he convinced that she has nowhere to go outside Beiyuan?

Shi Jiang had already bought a four-courtyard house on Stone Street as a traveling merchant. It was a property owned by a merchant family, and now Shi Jiang had just bought it.

I was halfway through packing when I heard that Mrs. Zhao had come to visit.

Why would Zhao come to visit if there's nothing else going on?

Just as she was about to speak, Shi Jiang suddenly grabbed her wrist nervously.

Shen Mingzhuang frowned slightly, not understanding what Shi Jiang was doing.

Shi Jiang struggled with his expression before finally speaking, "Something happened to the Pei family."

Shen Mingzhuang was unaware of this. She had been feeling rather depressed these past few days, staying at home planning for the future and not going out or inquiring about what was happening outside.

When she heard that something had happened to the Pei family, she could hardly believe it.

In the book, Lord Pei is an upright, polite, and principled person who doesn't make any major mistakes. The only flaw is that he used to have some connections with the Shen family. However, after the Shen family was executed, the Pei family never got close to anyone again, probably because they were worried about being implicated if something like what happened to the Shen family happened again.

But now that something has happened to the Pei family, she can't figure out what they did to cause this trouble.

Her eyes were glistening as she stared quietly at Shi Jiang, waiting for his explanation.

Shi Jiang looked somewhat guilty before saying, "It was Jiang Wang who was displeased and deliberately made up an excuse to make the Pei family act this way."

A single sentence was enough to freeze Shen Mingzhuang in place.

She suddenly understood what was going on.

The Pei family was dragged down by her.

Thinking of Pei Jingzhou, Shen Mingzhuang's heart felt like the Jiangnan region in May, damp and melancholic with the falling plum rains.

If he had been more decisive back then, things would be very different now. She vividly remembered a saying: "Deep affection that comes late is worthless."

However, she couldn't stay out of this matter. After all, she had used Pei Jingzhou to retaliate against Jiang Wang. Now that Pei Jingzhou was being resented by Jiang Wang and his family was suffering as a result, if she didn't care, it would be beyond despicable.

"Take the person to the flower hall."

Shen Mingzhuang gave instructions to the gatekeeper, then turned to look at Shi Jiang, who was still holding her wrist, and said firmly, "I must go."

Shi Jiang shook his head slightly, his eyes revealing a complex and indescribable emotion.

He didn't want her to go.

Although it wasn't spoken aloud, it was fully expressed in every gesture and movement.

"Shi Jiang, you can't stop me."

This was the first time Shen Mingzhuang had expressed opposition to Shi Jiang's ideas.

"Can't you stop her?" Shi Jiang looked slightly taken aback, but shook his head. "Pei Jingzhou isn't anyone important to you. You don't need to go."

These words, like a magic spell, instantly seeped into Shen Mingzhuang's heart. As she looked into Shi Jiang's eyes, the world around her began to spin.

After waiting for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea in the flower hall, Zhao learned that Shen Mingzhuang was unwell and probably wouldn't be able to come out to see guests.

Pei Shuwan felt like a drowning person watching a piece of driftwood drifting towards her sink, her eyes filled with despair.

Zhao was also surprised. She had clearly agreed to see her, so why did she suddenly say that she was not feeling well and could not come to see her? Did she know that she had come for the Pei family's business and deliberately refuse?

Shi Jiang looked at Shen Mingzhuang, who had fallen into a coma, remained silent for a moment, then turned around and put everything into his spatial storage, preparing to leave Beiyuan as soon as the two left.

When Shen Mingzhuang woke up again, he was already lying in a house on Stone Street.

Outside the stained-glass window, dappled shadows of trees cast a carpet of broken silver. Shen Mingzhuang opened his eyes, his gaze blank, before a few moments later revealing a more lively expression.

Suddenly, she felt a churning in her stomach and immediately leaned over the edge of the bed, looking extremely uncomfortable. Man Huan rushed in upon hearing the noise and saw her young mistress clutching her chest in pain, her face unusually pale.

"Miss, what's wrong?" Manhuan brought over a spittoon, her face full of concern.

Shen Mingzhuang was so distressed that he couldn't speak. It felt like something was churning in his chest, and he started gagging as soon as he opened his mouth. Man Huan was sweating profusely and called out loudly for Xue Rong.

"Xue Rong, quickly go and fetch a doctor!"

Xue Rong rushed in, but before she even got close, she heard someone vomiting. She quickly turned around and ran out again to fetch a doctor.

Shen Mingzhuang felt as if her heart, liver, spleen, and lungs were being squeezed into her throat, and her mouth was churning with acid. Manhuan gently wiped her mouth with a handkerchief, but before she could finish wiping, she started vomiting again.

Perhaps because she hadn't eaten much all day, her stomach was empty and she couldn't vomit anything.

Before long, Shi Jiang returned from outside and bumped into Xue Rong, who had just returned from fetching the doctor. Shi Jiang was dressed in a dark blue fine cloth robe, his posture was like a pine tree, and his handsome, godlike face was cold and unsmiling.

Xue Rong was distracted and bumped into someone again. She apologized repeatedly without even seeing who it was. She then led the doctor inside. Shi Jiang's face darkened, and he said in a deep voice, "What are you doing?"

Xue Rong then came to her senses and turned to look at Shi Jiang, "Miss is not feeling well, please ask the doctor to take a look."

"I can't speak," Xue Rong said weakly, a hint of fear in her eyes.

Upon hearing this, Shi Jiang's expression immediately darkened. He said nothing and quickly walked towards the main courtyard.

Xue Rong shrank her neck and followed nervously.

She felt a little uneasy. She had bumped into Shi Jiang earlier, which wouldn't have been a big problem, but Shi Jiang's current status was awkward. Although he was called a servant, the whole house belonged to him. Everyone else in the mansion called him Master, and only the people who came from the North Garden with the young lady still treated him as the young lady's servant. Now, the way they addressed him was somewhat inappropriate.

Shi Jiang strode into the house. When Man Huan saw him, she shrank back a little, feeling a sense of fear and resistance towards him for no reason.

"What's wrong?"

Shi Jiang ignored everything, took two steps forward and squatted down in front of Shen Mingzhuang, placed his hand on her chest, and probed with his spiritual sense. He immediately frowned.

how so? !

Shen Mingzhuang reached out and pushed him away, then stepped back.

"Don't touch me." She looked at Shi Jiang with some resistance, a sudden surge of irritation rising in her heart.
