Is Uncle Li home?
As soon as I knocked on the door, I heard footsteps inside. The door opened, and a short-haired woman wearing a blue cloth dress appeared in front of me.
"An'an, come in quickly! Come in quickly!"
A day and a night was enough for the news of what happened in the Gu family to reach the ears of these women, and the women looked at Gu An'an with some sympathy in their eyes.
Gu An'an obediently followed the person into the house, and then placed the wine and four apples from the net bag on the table.
"You silly child, why did you bring anything with you when you came all this way! Take it back with you later."
Gu Qing pouted, "My uncle and aunt are my elders. Can't a junior like me come to their house and take a few things?"
That makes perfect sense. The woman patted her hand helplessly, "How old are you? You need to take better care of yourself, you know?"
Gu An'an nodded obediently, "I'm going to the countryside tomorrow, and I don't know when I'll be back. I need to come and say hello to my uncle and aunt."
Her soft and sweet appearance immediately captured the other person's heart. Director Li heard the sound, walked out of the study, looked at Gu An'an, and sighed.
He was blind; he didn't see through Gu Changsheng's true colors.
Although he occasionally heard that An'an had been bullied, he would call Gu Changsheng over for a talk, but little did he know that things were not as he described at all.
"Keep your things. I had your aunt prepare some things for you today. I'll take you home later and you can take them with you."
While they were talking, Aunt Li had already brought the things out.
"Here's some food, two sets of clothes for changing, and this quilt is what I prepared for your brother's wedding. He's been dragging his feet and hasn't brought anyone back yet, so the quilt is for you first. I'll send it to you tomorrow, you don't need to carry it."
After saying that, he took out a stack of colorful bills from his pocket. "It's not much money. Keep it close to your body and don't let anyone know."
"I've already changed your ticket to one for the whole country. You can buy anything you want there. Otherwise, you're too small to carry it."
Gu An'an was bewildered by the couple's enthusiasm. Director Li was promoted by her maternal grandfather, and the couple usually took good care of the original owner of the body. Otherwise, she wouldn't have brought her things to work and asked for help.
But she didn't expect it to turn out this way. The pure concern brought a touch of warmth to her heart, which had been suffering in the apocalypse for so long.
Thinking about it, it makes sense. Given how much Wang Meihua and the others disliked her, if they hadn't had some reservations, they wouldn't have let the original owner grow up like this; they might have killed her long ago.
"Thank you, Uncle and Aunt."
Seeing the couple's expressions that left no room for refusal, Gu An'an readily agreed. She had just spent money to move to the Northeast, a place rich in resources, and she could simply send more things back later.
The more well-behaved Gu An'an was, the more reluctant Aunt Li became. Such a good child, going to such a far place alone, she really didn't know what would happen to her.
Not wanting to dwell on this matter, Gu An'an took the initiative to explain the purpose of her visit.
"Uncle Li, Wang Meihua's job is my mother's. She said she would let her stay until I came of age, right?"
Factory Director Li nodded, "That's true."
"Since that's the case, and I'm an adult now, doesn't that mean I belong to you?"
That makes perfect sense. Anyway, Wang Meihua and Zhang Changsheng have committed a crime and there's no way they can come back. They'll definitely lose their jobs, so the job will naturally be returned to the child.
But she's about to go to the countryside. Could it be that she wants to exchange money?
Factory Director Li didn't think there was anything wrong with exchanging work for money. Gu Jia only had this child left. If she didn't think more about herself, who would?
So he said bluntly, "The job must be yours, but you have to go to the countryside now. How about I hold it for you for a year or two and bring you back to work, or should I give you the money?"
Gu An'an didn't expect that Director Li would try to use his connections to bring her back. Even her biological parents might not be this kind.
Gu An'an couldn't accept this kindness, and shook her head, saying, "Let the work be left for those who need it! I want to go to the countryside for a few years first; maybe it's more suitable for me there."
Seeing her like this, Director Li cursed Zhang Changsheng in his heart again. He was a heartless bastard who had ruined a perfectly good child like this. He even wanted to leave this sad place.
"Okay, I'll handle the work for you, and I promise you won't suffer any losses."
He went back inside, took out eight hundred yuan, and handed it to Gu An'an, saying, "Here's your work money first. You'll need to buy things when you go to the countryside anyway."
Wang Meihua was an ordinary worker in the factory, unlike her office job. Even though jobs were in high demand in this era, they could never sell for such a high price. In the end, they still wanted to make a living.
Honestly, having witnessed the wickedness of people in later generations, Gu An'an was at a loss for what to do when she suddenly encountered someone like this.
"Uncle, five hundred is enough."
He pushed the remaining three hundred back, saying, "Uncle and Aunt, don't worry. I passed the exam for a job at a textile factory a couple of days ago and sold it. I don't need any money."
She definitely wouldn't have said that to anyone else, but she felt that saying it to this couple might put their minds at ease.
As expected, seeing that she wouldn't accept it, Factory Director Li put away the three hundred, his face full of a relieved smile, "Good, good, we can rest assured now that you've done this."
As Gu An'an left Director Li's house, thinking about how those people had schemed for so long but got nothing in return, she felt a surge of inexplicable satisfaction.
With such a wonderful feeling, Gu An'an went directly to the agreed location, found a secluded spot to put away the things that had been agreed upon beforehand, disguised herself, and then began to rest against the tree trunk.
She had only been here for two days, but she hadn't had a moment to rest. Even now, leaning against a tree trunk, she could drift into a light sleep.
