The village chief's wife asked everyone she could to help Gu An'an with her water tank, but in the end, she couldn't find anyone with a spare.
So, early in the morning, she asked the village chief to go to the commune to find her sister to help. When Xiao's mother heard that it was for her future daughter-in-law, she immediately found a way to get the things.
The water tank was rolled countless times with straw rope, and a frame was attached to the outside to make sure it wouldn't be knocked or damaged before it was loaded onto the tractor. It was finally brought home before lunchtime.
The village chief's wife wanted to take Gu An'an over immediately, but then she thought that they were probably eating, so she gave up the idea. She couldn't just go over there to freeload again; the child didn't have that much food to give them.
They figured the others had finished eating, so the village chief's wife led the way, while the village chief and his eldest son pushed a cart, pulling a water vat, towards the courtyard.
"Village chief, where are you all going?"
The village chief's wife saw a group of women chatting outside in the cold weather. She knew they were gossiping about people again. She held back her eyes for a long time. "Gu Zhiqing asked me to get her a water tank. Now that I've got it, I'm sending it to her so that the two girls won't have too much trouble getting water."
After saying that, she left without even noticing the complex expressions on everyone's faces.
"Chunhua, is the Gu Zhiqing she mentioned the same Gu Zhiqing you just mentioned?"
Liu Chunhua thought about the people in the educated youth compound and nodded, "There's only one educated youth surnamed Gu, so it must be him."
"What's Gu Zhiqing's background? The village chief's family is so good to him. If they knew you were talking about him behind his back, who knows what they would do to you?" A nosy woman covered her mouth and laughed.
Liu Chunhua felt a little guilty thinking about the village chief's wife's usual fierce demeanor, but she still put her hands on her hips and said, "What am I afraid of? I didn't just make this up myself. Li, the educated youth, said that Qin, the educated youth, saw it when she went to the toilet. What does it have to do with me?"
"Besides, flies don't land on eggs without cracks. If Gu Zhiqing is really so innocent, why would someone come out of her yard so early in the morning?"
Her words were echoed by some people, while others, being the wise ones, listened without saying a word, fearing that they would be implicated if the truth came out.
The village chief's family was in a hurry to get on their way, but they also had to make sure the hot pot on the trailer didn't fall off. They walked quickly and steadily, and soon they arrived outside the small courtyard.
"Gu Zhiqing, Zhou Zhiqing, are you home?"
When Gu An'an heard the shouts and came out, she saw the village chief's family waiting at the door. She quickly opened the gate and asked, "Auntie, you really brought the water vat for me?"
The village chief's wife said proudly, "Of course, time was too tight, so we only managed to get one that was about 80% new. It was thoroughly cleaned before it arrived, so you can use it without worry."
To be honest, Gu An'an was genuinely touched.
In this unfamiliar place, regardless of the village chief's wife's true intentions, Gu An'an could feel her genuine kindness.
"Thank you, Auntie."
He then looked at the village chief and Wang Dashan, "Thank you, Uncle, thank you, Brother Dashan."
Looking at the pretty girl in front of him, Wang Dashan remembered what his mother had been nagging about at home these past few days, and his smile became even more genuine.
"No need to thank me, I'm just helping out with some manual labor."
This is the girl his cousin has his eye on; they might become family in the future. Isn't it only right that he does this little thing?
If it weren't for his mother stopping him for fear that his wife would cause trouble, his wife would have come over long ago to chat and build rapport.
While she was setting the water vat in place, Gu An'an had already prepared sugar water for the three of them. "Uncle, Aunt, and Brother Dashan, have some water."
As she picked up the bowl and brought it to her mouth, the village chief's wife realized that sugar had been added to the water. She scolded her, "You silly child, you should keep such precious things for yourself."
"These are nothing special. It's their good fortune to be able to sweeten your mouths, Uncle and Aunt."
Everyone loves to hear nice words. The village chief's wife thought Gu An'an was wonderful no matter how she looked at her. She really wanted to write a letter to her nephew to urge him to settle down. It wasn't enough for them to just keep an eye on her; they had to come back and spend more time with her. Only when they developed feelings for each other could they finally settle down with such a wonderful girl.
"Auntie, how much does this jar cost?"
The village chief's wife was too embarrassed to accept it; it was Xiao Ma who got it, and they had no idea how much it cost.
"No need, it's already old, why spend more money?"
Gu An'an was definitely not going to agree. After several shovings, Gu An'an finally estimated a number and stuffed it in.
"You silly child."
The more Gu An'an acted this way, the more the village chief's wife liked her. She was polite, sensible, and good-looking, and the more she looked at her, the more she liked her as a match for Aheng.
With spring just around the corner, the village chief and Wang Dashan left after delivering the supplies. They needed to check on the fields to plan the next planting and cultivation.
The village chief's wife chatted for a while longer until she had to go home to work, at which point she happily left.
Just after turning the corner, seeing that Liu Chunhua and the others hadn't dispersed yet, the village chief's wife originally planned to leave directly, but stopped in her tracks after hearing Gu An'an's name.
"Liu Chunhua!"
Upon hearing this angry shout, Liu Chunhua's back stiffened, as if she had been caught red-handed by the person involved.
But she was talking about Gu An'an, not her. Why is she shouting like that?
Thinking of this, Liu Chunhua felt a little more confident. "Oh dear, what are you yelling about? You scared me half to death."
The village chief's wife rushed over, frowning as she looked at Liu Chunhua and asked, "What were you just saying?"
Knowing that she had a good relationship with Gu An'an, Liu Chunhua certainly didn't want the other person to know what she had just said.
The village chief's wife slapped Liu Chunhua on the shoulder, "Still not going to talk? You'll only tell me if I have to talk to your husband, won't you?"
Liu Chunhua is a gossip, but her husband is a rare honest man. Over the years, Liu Chunhua has been beaten many times for not being able to control her mouth.
When talking about her husband, Liu Chunhua was still a little timid. "I just said that a man came out of Gu Zhiqing's house early in the morning, and I didn't say anything else."
"They haven't said anything at all. If you were to say something, would you just kill someone?"
Although the time spent together was short, after two interactions, the village chief's wife absolutely refused to believe that Gu An'an would do such a thing. "Tell me, who told you this?"
