Chapter 28: Consider it paying off a debt.

Old Jiang sat up in bed, trembling.

He cursed Wu An inwardly, thinking that he had only ever done things secretly before.

Now they're resorting to outright robbery.

He turned on the light and shouted, "Wu Erzai, don't do anything stupid!"

"Robbery is illegal."

"You all need to leave now, and I can pretend you were never here."

Wu An said irritably, "I'm here to buy things."

"I'd like to buy two packs of instant noodles."

"Open the door quickly."

Just then, some villagers passing by looked at them and whispered among themselves as they passed by, no one knew what they were saying behind their backs.

Old Jiang opened the door quickly.

Actually, villagers would occasionally come to buy things in the middle of the night. After all, if the villagers needed something, it was too far to go to the town, so they would come to him to buy it.

He has to open the door if someone knocks in the middle of the night.

He was only afraid because it was Wu An who knocked on the door.

Wu An put the bucket on the ground, too lazy to argue with Lao Jiang, and said, "Give me a pack of instant noodles."

"Give me that alarm clock again."

"hurry up."

Old Jiang glanced at the two men warily, noticing they were carrying buckets of water. He instinctively looked inside and immediately walked over: "So many blue crabs."

"Just dug it up?"

"This bucket is... Holy crap, it's a crab tiger, isn't it?"

He shouted excitedly.

Wu An tried to stop him but it was too late, and he said irritably, "What are you yelling about?"

"It's a crab tiger, you're not mistaken."

"Go get some instant noodles, hurry up!"

Old Jiang looked back several times as he took a five-pack of braised beef noodles and placed it on the counter. Staring at the crab tiger in the bucket, he asked, "How much are these crab tigers?"

Wu An shook his head: "I don't know."

Old Jiang's eyes darted around, and he said, "I'll trade you some wine."

"A bottle of wine and a crab."

Wu An thought for a moment, and since his father was in the mood for a drink, he said, "Alright, these two bottles will do. I'll give you four pieces, enough to stew some tofu."

Old Jiang immediately beamed with joy: "Okay, okay, okay, I'll go get a basin."

After Lao Jiang left, A Qing whispered, "Brother, it seems like we lost out."

Wu An smiled and said, "Old Jiang might have made a profit, but we definitely won't lose out."

"The entrance to the convenience store is our village's intelligence center. Getting on good terms with Lao Jiang will definitely be beneficial in every way."

"Besides, we've been sneaking around here quite a bit before, and Lao Jiang didn't hold it against us. Now that we have the chance, let's just consider it paying off our debt."

Aqing nodded in sudden realization.

Although he still didn't quite understand, he was sure his brother was right.

Wu An didn't take the wine away, saying, "I'll have my brother come and get it today."

They set the alarm, grabbed their instant noodles, and headed towards the old house.

Back to the old house.

The alarm clock was on the bedside table. It was only 3:50 a.m. I changed my clothes first, then boiled water to cook noodles. I chopped up a blue crab and a blue crab with missing limbs, blanched three mantis shrimps and some clams, and removed the meat.

A simple and unpretentious seafood instant noodle dish was ready.

He ate a bowl of noodles, not even leaving a drop of the soup.

"belch."

The two brothers burped at the same time, feeling extremely satisfied. They leaned against the wall, not wanting to move. After a while, Wu An got up and went back into the house. Seeing that it was already 4:30, he called for A Qing to bring the bucket.

At this time, the diligent vendors should be opening their stalls.

Wu An walked around a bit and headed home. Sure enough, he saw that the door was already open and smoke was coming out of the chimney.

My father was a village cadre. His position wasn't particularly high-ranking, but it wasn't insignificant either. However, he carried a heavy responsibility, or at least that's what he thought. He valued village affairs above all else.

The wind and waves were a bit rough this morning, so he'll definitely be heading out early to stroll along the beach.

Just as he expected.

My eldest brother is similar to my father; he teaches in the village and is a privately-employed teacher, the only one in the village, as all the other teachers have been transferred to public schools.

It wasn't that my older brother wasn't capable enough, but rather because of our father.

My dad is a good man in every way, except he's afraid of being gossiped about. He had a quota for transferring to a government job, but he insisted on avoiding any appearance of impropriety, so my brother actually stopped applying.

result.

A few years later, the village primary school was closed down, and my older brother lost his job and had no means of livelihood. By then, my brother and sister-in-law had cut off all contact with him, and he only found out about these things through Aqing.

Wu Ping dedicated his life to teaching and nurturing students. After he stopped teaching, he went out to sea with the villagers to fish, but he couldn't make any money. He could only work in town, and his brother and sister-in-law naturally had a hard time making ends meet.

Wu An thought to himself that he definitely had to help his older brother, at least to ensure that his brother and sister-in-law would live a comfortable and prosperous life in the future.

Therefore, the house opens very early every day, and the sister-in-law has to get up before dawn to prepare breakfast so that the father and son can fill their stomachs and go about their business.

Looking at it this way, he is the only stain on this family.

I cautiously peered into the yard.

Wu Ping happened to come out of the house and saw him. He immediately exclaimed in surprise, "A'an, don't hide!"

"Dad isn't home, he just went out."

"What are you doing standing at the gate? Hurry up and come inside."

Hearing the sound, Mei Yueqin came out of the kitchen, saw Wu An, and said, "Erzi is here."

"Going to the beach so early?"

Are you tired?

What is family?

Meeting his brother and sister-in-law's concerned gazes, Wu An felt a warmth in his heart and said, "It's alright, I just got up early, but I wasn't actually busy for long."

"I was lucky today and caught some crab gobies. I'll save a few small ones for you guys."

"And these blue crabs, even with their legs broken, you can't sell them for any money."

Wu Ping quickly shook his head; "No."

"These are really expensive, you should sell them for money."

"We have enough food at home, so please don't send any more food to our house."

Mei Yueqin nodded in agreement: "Your brother is right, making money is the most important thing."

Wu An found a basin—his washbasin, for himself—took out a few small tiger crabs, threw in two blue crabs, and said, "I'm leaving."

"By the way, brother, if you have time, go to the convenience store. I've stored two bottles of wine there. Bring them back to Dad."

"Don't tell Dad I bought it, I'm afraid he'll smash it."

He left after saying that.

Mei Yueqin quickly said, "What's the rush? Let's eat before we leave."

Wu Anhui has already eaten.

Wu Ping caught up and wanted to say something, but hearing a noise from next door and that Wu An had gone far away, he shook his head and went back to the courtyard. The couple looked at each other, and Wu Ping gave a bitter smile: "I'm still not used to how well Erzi has become."

Mei Yueqin smiled and said, "Virtue."

“Dad has been saying his legs aren’t feeling well lately, so it’s a good time to eat some crab to help him recover.”

"Hurry up and brush your teeth and wash your face before eating. Didn't you say yesterday that you wanted to go to school early?"

Wu Ping nodded.

...

Wu An and A Qing went to A Qing's house again and left some seafood before heading to the pier.

As I passed the corner, I ran into Chen Gui.

Wu An had previously insulted Chen Gui, and the two had a major falling out. It was only after Wu Yingwei swallowed his pride and apologized that the matter was settled. Now that they had met, they both looked away and ignored each other.

Chen Gui saw the two men carrying buckets toward the dock and his eyes darted around: "These two rascals are carrying buckets from the village to the dock, are they going to someone's house to go beachcombing?"

"It would be reasonable for Old Wu to be strolling along the beach and casually visit the pier, wouldn't it?"

Chen Gui chuckled wickedly as he walked towards the yellow sand beach.

Fearing they wouldn't be able to find anyone, they even called Wu Yingwei and suggested that since it was windy today, they go to the pier to spread the message "Don't go beachcombing in strong winds and waves."

Although Wu Yingwei found it strange that Chen Gui would be so interested in his work, he didn't think much of it and readily agreed to the suggestion.
