Extra Three Fireworks
Extra Three Fireworks
The first New Year's Eve that Yan Zhen and Chen Huaixu spent together was not as relaxing and joyful as they had imagined.
In the brightly lit Yan family villa, Chen Huaixu, who was making his second official visit, stood in the living room and politely greeted Yan's father and mother.
Duan Zheng patted his shoulder with a smile, a look of admiration on his face, as if he were his own son-in-law, and asked him how good he was at mahjong. Yan Hui only nodded faintly in response, still making it difficult to read his thoughts.
It was supposed to be a lively evening, but Yan Zhen was nervous and uneasy.
Yan Hui looked up and down at Chen Huaixu. After a long time, she turned around and asked Chen Huaixu to go to the study upstairs with her.
This means to talk to him alone.
Chen Huaixu obeyed. Yan Zhen wanted to follow him in, but was stopped by Yan Hui: "Are you afraid that I will eat him?"
She said coquettishly: "Mom..."
Yan Hui feigned anger, bent her finger and tapped her daughter's forehead, saying with some regret: "Mom, this is for your own good. Your family should be more powerful, so that he won't dare to bully you in the future."
Yan Zhen covered her forehead and said, "Oh." Chen Huaixu turned around and nodded gently to reassure her. Then the door of the study slowly closed, completely isolating the two from talking.
Yan Zhen returned to the living room, where the TV was playing a preview of the Spring Festival Gala. Although she stared at the screen, her mind was still in the study on the second floor.
Chen Huaixu not only successfully completed the performance requirements Yan Hui had originally proposed, but also exceeded them by a lot. During this period, Yan Zhen lived with him and witnessed firsthand how much effort he put in. And even when he was busy with work, he never ignored her feelings, and he put in every effort for her, never letting her feel wronged.
Now mom should be satisfied.
Yan Zhen was leaning on the sofa in a daze when a beautiful hand suddenly appeared in front of her and snapped her fingers frivolously: "Bored? If so, come and help me."
"I won't." Yan Zhen hugged the pillow tightly. "It's like this every year. They ask me to help in the kitchen, but in the end they think I'm clumsy and kick me out."
Yan Zhao stood behind her, lowered his head and looked at her with a smile, "Chen Huaixu is such a good cook. You've lived with him for so long, haven't you learned anything from him?"
Speaking of this, Yan Zhen's eyes lit up and said, "Then I still can do it."
Half an hour later, Yan Zhao couldn't stand it anymore and threw Yan Zhen out of the kitchen.
"Only Chen Huaixu can eat this."
"You're too picky!" Yan Zhen said angrily, "Dad said it was delicious too!"
Duan Zheng doted on his daughter to no small extent and said, "It is indeed delicious."
"Alright," Yan Zhao raised his hands in surrender. "You have more people, and I'm at the bottom of the food chain. I surrender."
As the three of them were laughing and joking in the kitchen, footsteps were heard on the stairs. Yan Zhen quickly stuck her head out to see Yan Hui walking down the stairs in a dignified manner, her expression much more relaxed than before she entered the study.
Chen Huaixu followed closely behind, walking at a steady pace.
She walked up to him, wanting to ask him what the result was, but she didn't want to appear too anxious in front of Yan Hui, so she pretended to be calm and slowly walked to Chen Huaixu's side.
Yan Hui had seen through it at a glance, and just said, "It's time to have the New Year's Eve dinner." Then she walked past them, leaving them some space to be alone.
After seeing his mother walk away, Yan Zhen anxiously tugged at his clothes and asked, "How is it?"
Chen Huaixu took out a thick red envelope from his pocket. She was stunned for a moment and asked, "What is this?"
"My aunt gave it to me." He held her in his arms, resting his chin on the top of her head, with a smile in his voice.
When a daughter brings her boyfriend home, it's customary for parents in Ningchuan to give her a red envelope as a greeting gift. Yan Hui's willingness to do this at least shows that she recognizes Chen Huaixu.
Yan Zhen was overwhelmed by immense joy. She looked at the red envelope, raised her head and asked, "What did you guys talk about?"
"It's just some work matters and some family matters." Chen Huaixu said, "I didn't make it difficult for me, don't worry."
She kissed him on the chin and said, "I knew you could do it, hubby is amazing."
He lowered his head, cupped her cheeks, and kissed her with unerring precision.
Of course, what Yan Hui talked about with him was not that simple. He did a good job this year, but this was just the beginning. Yan Hui asked him to guarantee with all his wealth and promise that he would never betray Yan Zhen and never let her down.
But Yan Zhen doesn't need to know this, because that day will never come.
After a lively New Year’s Eve dinner, Yan Zhen took Chen Huaixu upstairs and walked into a room.
Only then did Chen Huaixu realize that she had a special room to store the gifts given by others.
Yan Zhen searched for a while, then held a few boxes in her arms and said, "I found them all. They were the birthday gifts you gave me over the past few years."
She felt a little guilty, but tried to make amends: "I receive so many gifts every year that it's impossible to open them one by one. Besides, I hated you back then, and I never thought you would give me anything good."
"It doesn't matter. It's not too late to demolish it now."
The moonlight sprinkled coldly on the balcony, the rattan chair swayed gently, and Chen Huaixu held Yan Zhen in his arms and helped her open the gifts.
"This is your first birthday since we met." Chen Huaixu recalled, "Before sending the gifts, I asked Yan Zhao about it and found out that you receive many expensive gifts every year on your birthday."
"My business hadn't even started at the time, so I couldn't afford those gifts. After much deliberation, I decided to give this."
Yan Zhen flipped through it and said, "Is this... a photo?"
"Yeah," he explained, "When you came to Boston that time, you didn't go to many of the places you wanted to go because of the weather. After you returned home, you didn't come back, so I wanted to record it for you."
He took his camera and went to all the places she had planned in his spare time, trying to capture the most beautiful scenery in the best weather.
On the back of each photo, the date and time of the photo are handwritten, even accurate to the second, and there is an English address below.
He spent several months preparing for this album of photos.
Chen Huaixu added, "Fortunately you didn't tear it down."
At that time, he was in a state of confusion and hesitation. He was afraid that she, who was used to luxury goods, would see him giving such a cheap gift. He was even more afraid that she would think that his feelings were cheap as well.
But at that time, all he could give was a tiny bit of sincerity.
Yan Zhen lowered her head and flipped through the pages carefully, and even found a greeting card from the middle layer.
Chen Huaixu hugged her tighter, took the card, and said, "I'll read it to you."
He spoke slowly: "Yan Zhen, first of all, I wish you a happy birthday.
"This birthday is destined to be special for you. On this day, you enter adulthood and begin a new stage in your life. As I write this card, spring is coming to Boston, and the cherry blossoms outside the window are blooming beautifully and brilliantly."
The night was clear and the surroundings were silent, with only his voice flowing low like water.
"I hope you can be as brilliant as this blooming flower. May you always be free and unrestrained, enjoy your life, and control your future."
He finished reading the card, folded it, and whispered something he hadn't written at the time: "And I will always love you."
The birthday gift in front of him not only witnessed her growth, but also witnessed his transformation over the years.
Yan Zhen listened quietly, resting her head on his shoulder, wrapping her arms around his waist, and said, "I love you too."
The moonlight was like water, and the two people hugged each other on the balcony.
The laughter from other villas in the distance drifted over vaguely, which was a unique kind of excitement on New Year's Eve.
Chen Huaixu hugged her and read out the birthday cards from the past few years to her one by one, gently and romantically accompanying her to review the past six years.
Although happiness came six years late, he never regretted it.
Because at this moment, at the most appropriate time, they have become the most suitable match for each other.
After the two of them finished reminiscing about their past, they were dragged over to play mahjong as soon as they came downstairs.
Yan Zhen always lost the most and was reluctant to play, but this year Chen Huaixu was there to take her place, so she happily moved a stool and sat next to him, whispering in his ear, "My parents, you can't win."
"Yeah." As a son-in-law, he still understood this rule.
Yan Zhen glanced at Yan Zhao who was sitting next to him and said, "My brother, you can win at will. You two have played this game many times before."
This was heard by the person involved. Yan Zhao looked over with a half-smile and said, "Little traitor."
Yan Zhen quietly stuck out her tongue and quickly hid behind Chen Huaixu.
The Spring Festival Gala on TV was filled with laughter and the mahjong table was also bustling with activity.
Midnight arrived.
"It's time to count down!" Yan Zhen glanced at his phone, stood up from his chair, and pulled Chen Huaixu, "Let's go out!"
Firecrackers are prohibited in Ningchuan City, but the Yan family villa is on a mountain away from the city center, so you can see people setting off fireworks during festivals.
The family walked out of the house. The snow outside had stopped, and the white snow illuminated the night sky.
Yan Zhao threw a string of firecrackers in the yard and handed the lighter to Yan Zhen. She naturally didn't dare and shook her head quickly, so the lighter was handed to Chen Huaixu.
He was slightly stunned.
"A good start, go ahead." Yan Zhao patted his back, "Since there is a new member in the family, I'll let you do it this year."
Chen Huaixu turned around and saw Yan's father and mother looking at him and smiling. Yan Zhen, who had covered her ears early, also blinked at him.
In an instant, he felt a strong sense of "home".
Chen Huaixu half-knelt down, covered the flame with his hand, and leaned over to light the fuse.
Three, two, one—
As the bells rang and the New Year arrived, countless fireworks rose from all directions.
The fireworks are colorful and gorgeous.
Yan Zhen covered her ears and shouted happily to him in the noisy and bustling night: "Chen Huaixu, Happy New Year!"
Fireworks bloomed and embers fell like meteors. Chen Huaixu's gaze slowly fell on her cheek and could no longer be moved away.
He smiled, leaned over and hugged her, saying, "Zhenzhen, Happy New Year."
It is the end of the old day and the beginning of the new year.
And from now on he can hug his beloved tightly, which is better than a thousand words.
