Han Zhenyu and his team delivered the farm's grain to the designated place.
By the time all the food was stored, it was already past seven in the evening.
Several drivers discussed with the car followers and decided to rest in the city for one night and drive back to the farm early the next morning.
Han Zhenyu pulled Li Shaohua aside and said, "Shaohua, I have to go back home. I won't stay in the city tonight. I will go directly to the farm from Nanping County tomorrow morning."
"What's the matter that makes you rush back so quickly?"
Li Shaohua looked at his clothes which were a little too short and asked in a low voice, "What happened to you on the farm? Where are your clothes?"
"When I went to fill it with boiled water, I accidentally dropped it into the farm's water storage tank."
Han Zhenyu pulled his sleeves down and said with a smile, "The clothes I'm wearing belong to Director Chen, so I have to return them to him. We have to pass through Nanping County on our way back anyway, so I plan to leave early tonight and go home to change clothes."
"Then I'll go with you. I'm worried about you driving at night alone."
Han Zhenyu thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I'll go tell the drivers to take other drivers' cars tomorrow."
It’s a three-hour drive from here to Nanping County, and it was almost 11 o’clock when the two arrived at the county seat.
They agreed on a meeting time tomorrow, so Li Shaohua returned to the factory and Han Zhenyu drove directly back home.
He was afraid of scaring Su Xieqiu and the two children, so he didn't knock on the door, but shouted outside, "Su Xieqiu, open the door, I'm back."
Su Xieqiu and the others had already fallen asleep. When she heard his shout, she immediately took out the flashlight beside her pillow, opened the door to the living room and asked, "Is that Han Zhenyu?"
"It's me."
Su Xieqiu walked to the door and confirmed again before opening it.
"Why don't you stay at the factory for one night? It's dangerous to come back so late."
Han Zhenyu smiled and said, "I came back to change clothes. I have to leave early tomorrow morning."
The two walked to the main room. Su Xieqiu lit a candle and saw the clothes he was wearing. "What's going on?"
Han Zhenyu closed the door and told her about his encounter with Jiang Shaoting at the Wuhua County farm.
"Ah, what a coincidence?" Su Xieqiu was surprised.
Han Zhenyu nodded heavily. "I was shocked when I saw him. He has changed so much. He was such a high-spirited person, but now he is in such a mess."
Su Xieqiu sighed and didn't comment too much on the matter. It was not something that a small person like her could interfere with.
"Do you want to help them?" she asked.
Han Zhenyu sighed and said, "I don't think I can help much. At most I can send them some food and daily necessities. I have a family now, so I have to take care of you first."
Su Xieqiu thought to himself, this man knows the importance of things.
She thought for a moment and said, "Since Director Chen knows that he is your savior, you should occasionally send them some food and daily necessities in the future. But don't give them too good things. After all, they are working on the farm, and being too conspicuous will arouse suspicion."
Su Xieqiu thought for a moment and said, "If Director Chen is not too greedy, then when you give them things, it's best to let Director Chen take them. Prepare more each time and let Director Chen take the lion's share."
"Okay, I understand."
Han Zhenyu looked at her with a smile, and felt more and more that they were in tune with each other. He thought to himself that he was lucky to have married such a good wife.
Su Xieqiu saw him staring at her blankly, her old face turned red, and she stood up and said, "I'll go make you something to eat. There's hot water in the kettle. Go wash up."
"I'm not hungry. I had dinner when I came from the city." Han Zhenyu held her hand and said, "Stop working and go to rest."
Su Xieqiu heard that he had already eaten, so he brought him some snacks and asked, "What time are you leaving tomorrow morning?"
"The other drivers have to rush over from the city, so it won't be that fast. I can just leave from home at 8 o'clock. You don't have to get up so early. I'll cook tomorrow."
Han Zhenyu felt that he was often away on business and it was too hard for his wife to take care of two children alone.
So whenever he comes back, everyone rushes to do the housework.
"Okay, you should go to bed early too." Su Xieqiu was indeed a little sleepy, so he nodded and went back to his room.
Han Zhenyu looked at the closed door and was silent for a moment, calculating in his mind how long it would take until the two months they had agreed upon.
I calculated that there is still about a month left.
He sighed in his heart, wondering why the time was passing so slowly.
Su Xieqiu got up very early the next day. She heard some noise in the backyard and went to take a look. It was Han Zhenyu who was collecting firewood in the firewood shed.
He chopped up the larger pieces of firewood and arranged them so that he could burn them when the time came.
"Aren't we leaving at eight o'clock? Why did you get up so early? Aren't you tired?" Su Xieqiu's tone was full of blame and heartache.
Driving a truck is so tiring, this man never sits idle for a moment when he gets home, and he can't wait to finish his work.
"I got up because I couldn't sleep." Han Zhenyu said with a smile: "It's still early, why don't you go back to sleep?"
Su Xieqiu glared at him and went back to the front yard to cook.
What I was thinking was, you’ve already gotten up to work, how can I sleep?
After a while, Han Zhenyu also came over and sat in front of the stove, chatting with her while making a fire.
Su Xieqiu thought that he would have to drive a long distance later, so she didn't tell him what happened at home in the past two days. She planned to tell him the details when he was resting, so as to prevent him from worrying outside.
"A few days ago I took apart and washed our old quilts. Why don't you take them to Comrade Jiang? I'll fry some salty cornmeal for them later. They're easy to eat. Just rinse them with water."
"Okay." Han Zhenyu smiled and nodded, then thought for a moment and said, "We should also ask Director Chen if there is anything else we can offer at home? If there is nothing suitable, I will go to the city to buy some later."
"Yes, I'll prepare it for you after dinner."
Su Xiaqiu cooked half a pot of rice porridge and fried two side dishes for breakfast.
Then she baked a lot of fried cakes and boiled six or seven eggs for Han Zhenyu to eat on the road.
The temperature is low now, so these things won't go bad if they are left in the car for two or three days.
When driving long distances, you often miss meal times. So put some food in the car so you don’t go hungry.
Su Xieqiu had just served the fried cornmeal when Chenchen walked in, rubbing his eyes.
Seeing Han Zhenyu making a fire, he said in surprise: "Uncle Han, you are back?"
Han Zhenyu smiled and nodded, then held him in his arms, "Chenchen, why did you get up so early?"
"I'll get up and help Aunt Su cook." Chenchen said with a smile, hugging his arm.
Han Zhenyu pinched his face and praised: "Chenchen is so good."
Su Xieqiu smiled and shook his head. "This little guy is too diligent. I told him to sleep a little longer and not get up so early, but he just wouldn't listen."
She knew Chenchen felt insecure and wanted to help with housework.
Su Xieqiu couldn't do anything about him, so he could only let them go to bed early at night and take a nap at noon.
"Chenchen, you are still young, you must sleep more, eat more, and don't always think about working, otherwise you won't grow taller." Han Zhenyu tapped his nose again, "When you are older, help your Aunt Su with work."
"I understand, Uncle Han."
