Han Zhenyu took the basket from her hand, greeted Sun Dahan's wife, and then said to her:
"I heard there are a lot of tender wild vegetables growing over there. I went to take a look. Tomorrow, Sunday, I will dig some to make dumplings for you."
Su Xieqiu pointed to the basket in his hand and said with a smile: "This was given by Sister Fengqin. She knew I like to eat these, so she dug them for me."
Han Zhenyu thanked her, "Sister-in-law, you are so tired at work, but you still think about my wife. Thank you very much."
"Hey, just some wild vegetables. There are plenty of them in the fields. I picked them while working." Sun Dahan's wife exchanged a few words with the couple and then went home.
Han Zhenyu closed the door and touched Su Xieqiu's belly with a smile, "Were the two little guys well behaved today? Did they kick you?"
"They are so lively. When I was having lunch, they were jumping around inside. I felt like my belly was about to burst from their kicks."
Su Xieqiu patted his belly gently and said softly, "He must have been tired this morning. He was very well behaved this afternoon."
As soon as she finished speaking, her little foot kicked Han Zhenyu's hand, as if greeting both of them.
"This child is so lively!" Han Zhenyu said happily.
However, before he could finish being happy, another little guy was not to be outdone and started moving using his hands and feet.
For a moment, it felt like there were two little people fighting in Su Xiaqiu's stomach, one on the left and one on the right, making her feel both amused and helpless.
Han Zhenyu stroked her belly and gently taught the two little people inside, "Be good, both of you, and don't mess with your mother, or I'll spank you."
Su Xieqiu looked at him with amusement, "They are so young, what do they know?"
She hugged Han Zhenyu's arm and said, "I made dumplings this afternoon, go and cook them."
"Why are you still making dumplings? Didn't I tell you when I left that I would cook when I came back?"
Han Zhenyu muttered to himself as he walked towards the kitchen.
He thinks his wife is disobedient. She is still sitting idle even though her belly is so big.
Han Zhenyu plans to pick up his grandma tomorrow.
He goes to work every day, and his wife is getting pregnant and there is no one at home to look after her, so he feels uneasy.
Su Xieqiu didn't say anything, but just listened to him chattering with a smile.
The two came to the kitchen, and Han Zhenyu saw the wrapped dumplings on the chopping board and chicken soup stewing on the stove next to it. The rich aroma filled the entire kitchen.
Su Xieqiu was sitting in front of the stove, preparing to light the fire, when Han Zhenyu immediately stopped her and said, "You sit over there and take a rest. I'll do it."
"It's not tiring to make a fire, so you can go and make the dumplings. Today I'm making dumplings with wild vegetable and egg filling. The skin is a bit thin, so you don't need to cook them for too long." Su Xieqiu sat there without moving, peeling garlic while making a fire.
Han Zhenyu couldn't persuade her and had to do other things.
After dinner, the couple played around in the yard for a while before going back to their room to rest.
After Su Xieqiu fell asleep, Han Zhenyu rode his bicycle quietly out of the door.
He wanted to go and see if Qiu Wang's wife had come back, and see how she was going to deal with Widow Liu.
Han Zhenyu couldn't get rid of the frustration in his heart until he saw that woman getting beaten.
It is already past ten o'clock, and the villagers are busy with spring planting. They are tired after a day's work, and most of them have turned off the lights and gone to bed.
Widow Liu and Qiu Wang's houses live across from each other. When Han Zhenyu approached them, the area was very quiet.
The lights in Widow Liu's house were off, but the lights in Qiu Wang's house were still on, with the door ajar.
Han Zhenyu did not leave. He hid behind the haystack of Wang Shulian's house, staring at the door of Widow Liu's house.
Not long after, there was a creaking sound and the door of Qiu Wang's house opened from the inside.
A middle-aged man looked around furtively, and seeing that there was no one around, he quickly pushed open the door of Widow Liu's house and slipped in.
Han Zhenyu saw this scene and knew that Qiu Wang's wife should not have come back today, otherwise he would not have been so bold as to meet with Widow Liu in secret when his wife was at home.
Han Zhenyu thought to himself, I didn't expect Qiu Wang's wife to be so patient. She knew her husband was having an affair with someone else, but she didn't even come back to see him. She even wanted to stay at her parents' house.
Han Zhenyu parked his bicycle behind the haystack and was about to go to the wall of Widow Liu's house to listen.
Just then, he saw a group of people coming from the opposite road.
Although he couldn't see clearly who they were, Han Zhenyu guessed that these people were most likely Qiu Wang's wife's family members.
He raised the corners of his lips in excitement, knowing that something good was going to happen.
The group of people walked very lightly and stopped when they reached the door of Widow Liu's house.
The man in front kicked the door open with a bang and led a dozen people into Widow Liu's yard.
Han Zhenyu glanced at the direction they came from and realized that these people had probably been there for a while.
He should have seen Qiu Wang enter Widow Liu's house, otherwise he wouldn't have barged in so blatantly.
Han Zhenyu leaned against the haystack and counted to five in his mind. Then he heard the screams of Widow Liu and the cries of her children from next door.
Several houses nearby heard the noise and turned on their lights.
Han Zhenyu then rode his bicycle home, humming a little tune.
He was afraid of waking up Su Xieqiu, so he didn't even dare push the bicycle into the house and just placed it under the eaves.
He thought he was being gentle enough, but when he pushed open the door, he heard his wife's voice in the darkness. "What are you doing in the middle of the night?"
Han Zhenyu paused, then chuckled, "Wife, did I wake you up?"
"Humph! I heard it when you went out."
Su Xieqiu sat up, turned on the flashlight and shone it on his face, then asked angrily, "Tell me, what were you doing in the middle of the night?"
Han Zhenyu laughed at her expression. He lit the candle first and then explained to her.
