Chapter 1 The World of Detective Conan: You and Me

Chapter 1 The World of Detective Conan: You and Me

On my first day in the world of Detective Conan, I'm still alive.

Cheng woke up at the Mihua Hotel and found that he hadn't traveled back in time. He had no choice but to accept the fact that he had really traveled back in time. He rolled out of bed and wanted to find a place to live in Japan as soon as possible.

Before that, he even opened a map and walked in the opposite direction after seeing the "Mouri Detective Agency" marked on the map.

The house needs to be safe; for the sake of future missions, it's best to stay away from the famous detective.

Because there are too many haunted houses in Beika Town, and clean houses are very expensive, Cheng You has not been able to find a suitable house.

Passing by a hot pot restaurant, a sudden wave of hunger washed over Cheng You, so he went inside without hesitation. As he stepped inside with a sense of relief, he unexpectedly overheard the thoughts of a potential criminal: "[Solved... No traces left at the scene, can leave safely.]"

He could hear the voices of prisoners—an ability granted to him by the system. After leveling up by completing tasks, he could even hear the voices of the real wine from the distillery. Cheng found this ability extremely interesting, which motivated him to work hard on his tasks.

But Cheng You didn't want to get involved in this kind of case. He just wanted to have a simple meal in the world of Detective Conan, since the world of Detective Conan had its own Detective Conan to deal with it.

As Cheng walked along the alleyway inside the shop, a tall, thin, bearded man with his head down and eyes slanted to the side approached him. Cheng instinctively tried to dodge, but due to the limited space of the alleyway, he was still bumped into by the man.

At this moment, the thoughts of the potential criminal in his mind became clearer: "Tsk, this guy's blind."

Cheng You looked at the man in front of him, who had already killed someone and was about to escape, with a slightly speechless expression. "Hey, I hold grudges. Don't even think about leaving until you apologize." Cheng You thought to himself happily: I'm such a good citizen of Beika Town, trying my best to stop the criminal from escaping =v=.

Cheng narrowed his eyes, noticing the small, inconspicuous gesture of the tall, thin, bearded man reaching into his pocket first after being hit.

The man looked guilty for a moment, but quickly put on a fierce expression and looked at the person in front of him. "Get out of my way, kid. I'm in a hurry."

Suddenly, a man's scream came from behind. Everyone looked in the direction of the sound, but the tall, thin, bearded man in front of Cheng You remained completely unmoved. His inner thoughts betrayed his true feelings: [Damn it, we've been discovered so quickly. I'd better get out of here.]

Cheng You immediately grabbed his shoulder and looked up behind him. A familiar figure appeared in his line of sight... Hey hey hey! Isn't that Kogoro Mouri? His gaze moved down and sure enough, he saw Conan in blue clothes next to Mr. Mouri's legs, and Ran taking out her phone to call the police.

The tall, thin, bearded man in front of him tried to break free and leave, but he didn't expect the man to be so strong. It seemed like the man was only lightly pressed down, but he couldn't move an inch. "Let go! Are you trying to kidnap me?!"

[Damn it, I could have killed him and gotten away scot-free. Tsk, this guy is really annoying, I really want to kill him. But my exquisite killing technique might not be noticed by these fools.]

Cheng released his hand and said, "There's been a case here, you'd better not move around."

"Tsk." The tall, thin, bearded man looked very impatient.

[No problem, it's a good opportunity to enjoy watching those hypocritical cops fail to solve cases, hahaha.]

Hearing the other person's thoughts, Cheng You couldn't help but chuckle. He pretended not to know and casually looked at the crime scene in front of him, thinking to himself, "It's okay, Conan will take care of it."

Still feeling very hungry, he approached the lady at the front desk and asked if he could still order food, explaining that he had been on a long flight to Beika Town and was extremely hungry.

Seeing that he was a tourist from afar and considering that he was still a child, the receptionist went to the kitchen to speak with the chef. Cheng You was not embarrassed and followed her to the kitchen to order.

So, before everyone had recovered from the shock of the crime scene, they smelled the aroma of spicy hot pot and looked at the only person still eating.

Mr. Mori, hands in his pockets and bent over, asked, "What... what is this guy doing?"

The police arrived quickly, and upon entering, they saw a crowd of people waiting for them, as well as someone sitting and eating...

Inspector Megure was merely surprised, but did not pursue the matter. He went to the crime scene—the men's restroom—and saw Mr. Mori, who was also investigating: "Mr. Mori, you're here again." His tone was completely unsurprised, as if he had expected this scene.

After questioning, three people came forward to identify the deceased: the tall, thin, bearded man who had been stopped by Cheng You, a long-haired woman, and a fair-skinned man. They were all the deceased's college classmates, and today was the day they were having a get-together.

"Did any of you go to the restroom during the trip?" Inspector Megure asked.

After questioning, it was learned that the deceased was the first to go to the restroom, and then the others went to the restroom in turn.

Inspector Megure turned to Mr. Mori and asked, "Mr. Mori, have you found anything?"

The other party shook their head and continued to inquire about their relationship with the deceased.

Conan carefully examined the deceased and found no obvious external injuries. The only unusual thing was the palm of the deceased's right hand, where there was a faintly blackened area with a small black hole in the center, seemingly left by a fine needle. This blackened area looked like poisoning.

The test results came out quickly, confirming that it was indeed poisoning and that the time of death was within ten minutes. However, none of the three suspects present had gone to the bathroom within those ten minutes.

Conan, in a childish voice, asked the tall, thin, bearded man, "Uncle, why did you leave here just now?"

"Because I had an upset stomach, I went to the bathroom many times but my stomach still hurt, so I had to leave first," the tall, thin, bearded man said with a smile.

The long-haired woman knew this and spoke up to clear her friend's name, saying that the tall, thin, bearded man did indeed have an upset stomach and had borrowed painkillers from the deceased at one point.

Conan looked up and glanced around, pausing when he saw the man sitting down, happily eating and scrolling through his phone.

Cheng noticed the gazes fixed on him, looked up, and saw Conan staring intently at him. His expression shifted to one of speechlessness, and he returned a smile. Choosing one of the three classic options was certainly not difficult for Conan; he could eat with peace of mind.

[Incompetent cops, but thanks to that idiot who blocked my way, I got to witness this scene. Typical of my methods.] The prisoner's thoughts were filled with greed and arrogance.

Cheng You: ...I have a bit of an urge to punch someone, not because I was scolded... well, that's part of it, but mainly because this noisy prisoner's inner thoughts are making my head buzz.

Cheng was mentally talking to the system: "System, can't you add an on/off switch to this mind-reading ability?"

System: [Host, this is a cheat code from the system! It will help my newbie host when performing missions later. However, you can level up by completing missions later, and after leveling up, you can choose to turn on or off the inner voices of specific characters at specific times.]

Cheng You couldn't help but purse his lips: [No matter what, you still have to do the mission, right...]

The system chuckled and explained: "No, host, you can choose which tasks to do, but once you accept a task, you must complete it, otherwise there will be penalties—the penalties are heavier for tasks related to the main storyline, and you won't receive the generous rewards from the system."

Cheng asked if he could change his self-reference to "adult".

Just then, the wind chimes hanging on the door of the hot pot restaurant rang, their clear and melodious sound indicating the arrival of customers. The system's tone suddenly changed, a serious voice sounding in Cheng You's ear: [Host, the target has appeared. The mission begins. Best wishes for a successful mission.]

"..." Cheng You raised an eyebrow. He had just arrived in Beika Town and had only just started eating. He hadn't even warmed his chair yet, and the mission had already begun?

Despite his displeasure, he slowly turned around and looked at the person who had come. He remembered reading in the information provided by the system that this Senior Officer Ye Shen had a secret relationship with the FBI... Thinking this, Cheng You became even more curious, but the hidden dangers also existed at the same time.

As a Chinese international student, I should have been enjoying my wonderful campus life at the University of Tokyo, but I was unexpectedly drawn into the perilous and dangerous Beika City.

He was lost in memories, recalling his sad experiences when he first arrived in Beika Town.

He realized something was wrong as soon as he got off the plane. The scenery in front of him wasn't Bunkyo Ward, where the University of Tokyo is located. It didn't look like the scene he had seen online. Instead, it looked familiar, like something out of a manga...

Beika Town!

If it weren't for seeing the words "Mihana Town" written in large letters on a sign outside the airport, Cheng You would never have imagined that taking a plane would lead to time travel!

He hurriedly took out his student ID from his pocket, and the word "Tokyo" was changed to "Teitan".

Cheng You, a student at Teitan University, Department of Computer Science, and a certain university in China.

Cheng quickly realized what was happening and decided to rely on his own abilities to survive in Beika Town! As he was heading to the apartment building to rent a place, he suddenly heard a sinister sound.

The middle-aged man's voice echoed in Cheng You's mind.

Cheng looked around and saw that there was no one around him. At that moment, the cold electronic voice sounded in his mind again.

[Hello, host, this is the world of Detective Conan. I am your personal system, "Are You Alive?". Please don't be afraid of being transported to the world of Detective Conan. The system kindly reminds you: If you find the seasons chaotic, or even changing every month, week, or day, don't be afraid. If you find that your appearance hasn't changed in eight or ten years, or even if less than a year has passed in the world of Detective Conan, don't be afraid, because these are all rules of the world of Detective Conan. If you encounter a bespectacled elementary school detective, be sure to cooperate and trust him.]

Cheng You: ...Speechless. This is the first time I've directly experienced the bug... I mean, the charm of the Detective Conan world.

[Don't be afraid of this voice, because it's one of the host's abilities—the ability to hear the thoughts of prisoners and potential prisoners.]

[After the host completes tasks to upgrade their abilities, they will also be able to hear the inner voice of the brewery's genuine spirits.]

[However, there is a range; the host can only hear them if they are within 100 meters. The host will be upgraded as a result of completing subsequent missions.]

Cheng You couldn't help but laugh: "Haha, how many bottles of real liquor does the distillery still have for me to listen to?" Although both real and fake liquor are dangerous... I would quite like to have this skill of listening to the thoughts of real liquor.

Avoid the brewery if you hear its complaints; that's the way to survive (image of someone with black lines on their face).

[The system will have main tasks and optional tasks. If the host fails to complete the main task or refuses to complete it, they will be punished; conversely, they will be rewarded.]

Cheng paused for a moment, then asked, "What kind of punishment will there be?"

[Confidential.]

Well, it's rather mysterious.

[The host's primary task is to correct the mindset of a potential criminal, a high school student named Yagami Kamizan, who is about to become a powerful ally for the Black faction and could very well reverse the situation between the two sides.]

"The Red Team has quite a few people and spies now. If they unite as one, the brewery won't stand a chance. But this guy named Night God was able to turn the tide all by himself; he seems like someone not to be trifled with..."

Cheng was internally screaming. This meant he was going to come into contact with dangerous criminals, and he was still a student!

However… thankfully, this doesn't involve the main storyline, so it's safer. It shouldn't count… Cheng hesitated for a moment, but still decided to take the initiative!

[That Mr. Yagami is a second-year student who will be transferring to Teitan High School from another region. Tonight, he will encounter the Black Organization in Nishino Ward, Beika Town, and join them. Good luck, host. The address has been sent to the system display screen; please check it yourself.]

"High school...high school students!?" Are all the high school students in Detective Conan comics this amazing? Cheng You couldn't help but exclaim.

Cheng looked down at the system display screen floating in front of him, which showed the introduction of a character named Yagami Kamisan. In the photo, he had long black hair draped over his shoulders, and his dark eyes were expressionless, making him look like a melancholy high school student.

Moving the gaze downwards, one sees his biography, resume, and skills description, all marked with a large "Confidential." Only the relationship chart contains a few lines of information: seemingly indicating a secret connection with the FBI.

"What do you mean?" Cheng asked the system with half-moon eyes.

[Secrets are secrets; the host must explore them independently. You cannot rely on the system for everything.]

That tone sounded quite proud.

Cheng made a mental note of the FBI information and paid no attention to anything else.

A chill swept over him, forcing Cheng You to put aside his thoughts. He was still in the hot pot restaurant when the door was opened, and the danger carried by the cold wind rushed towards him.
