Chapter 18 Akai and Yagami Shangshen
"Yes," Cheng replied calmly, still wearing a warm, welcoming smile.
"You don't look Japanese, are you a foreigner? I wonder what your impression of this place is? We welcome foreign friends to come." Amuro Tooru said in a gentle tone.
"Yes, I'm from China, here to learn more. I really like Beika Town." Cheng You answered calmly, then smiled and said, "Guests, please eat quickly, otherwise you'll miss the best time to eat them and the taste will be worse."
"Okay." Amuro Tooru began his meal with a gentlemanly air, casually putting his hand in his pocket before taking his phone out a few seconds later.
Cheng noticed his subtle movements out of the corner of his eye; when the other person put his hand in his pocket, he was sending a message to someone.
Who was he with? Was he investigating Yuichi's sake with him?
Cheng You didn't think about it anymore. According to the protagonist's halo, Conan's identity would not be discovered, the fact that the drug could shrink people would not be easily discovered, and the winery would not think of shrinking people.
Aside from Bourbon and Vermouth, both of them knew that Conan was Shinichi Kudo.
Thinking of this, Cheng You breathed a sigh of relief. Even if Bourbon or Vermouth really discovered that Yuichi had shrunk, they would choose to hide it or resolve it privately for Conan's safety.
After finishing his meal, Amuro Tooru left, praising Cheng You's excellent cooking skills before he departed. Cheng You followed the direction Amuro Tooru left in the corner of his eye, until his figure disappeared around a corner.
After noting down the alley number, Cheng specifically checked the surveillance footage of that road. It had been cleared, but he could restore it with just a few clicks of his finger.
After a series of complicated actions, Cheng You stared at the blurry surveillance footage and carefully identified the person sitting in the passenger seat. Based on the slender figure and long hair of the woman, even though it was blurry, Cheng You still recognized her as Vermouth.
On the other side, Amuro Tooru opened the door of his white Mazda, sat in the driver's seat, and looked at Vermouth: "We didn't find anything. It doesn't seem to be related to them, but we still need to investigate further."
"Is that so?" Vermouth smirked meaningfully. "We can try starting with the people around him. This kind of thing can't be taken lightly." He's been given the A drug again. I wonder if he's turned into a child like Cool Guy. In any case, it's best to get rid of him.
Amuro Tooru started the car. "Naturally." He thought to himself: I wonder if this is the same situation as when Shinichi Kudo turned into Conan. It would be best to find someone to temporarily protect that mission target named Yuichi. He must have witnessed the transaction, which could be used as evidence.
The white Mazda sped off and disappeared in a flash.
A small, thin figure slowly emerged from the corner of the alley. Yuichi was carrying two pharmacology books and looked in the direction the white Mazda had left.
"I'm back, Brother Cheng You." Youyi returned to the store carrying books and asked, "Have they left?"
Cheng nodded and lay back in the rocking chair, slowly relaxing.
"I'm so sorry, I've caused trouble for Brother Cheng You."
"It's nothing," Cheng You said gently. "It's not a problem." For him, it really wasn't a problem. Everything has its value and meaning. Meeting the two important figures from the winery ahead of time might not be a bad thing. It would be a good opportunity to confirm his stance.
Once she gets involved with Conan or Ran, Vermouth won't be careless, and she might even be able to help Cheng You later.
Thinking this, a smile involuntarily appeared on Cheng You's face.
On the other side, in the Mi Garden residential area, a figure wearing a knitted hat to cover his face and a large bucket suit to conceal his body, he discreetly and nimbly avoided everyone and the cameras.
After glancing at the chat history that had been stuck since yesterday, the other party told him that the room number was 803. Instead of taking the elevator, Shuichi Akai slowly climbed the stairs, paused for a moment in front of room 803, and knocked on the door expressionlessly.
Soft footsteps sounded from inside. Soon, the door opened, and the room's occupant peeked out, giving him a curt look. "Cousin..."
"Hmm." Shuichi Akai walked in, looked around, and noticed another man's shoes in the entryway. Yagami had already informed him that he was living with a Chinese exchange student.
"How have you been lately?" Since he had already reported it, Shuichi Akai didn't have the time to ramble on and simply asked.
"What do you mean, how?" Yagami asked coldly, the atmosphere between the two tense, not like brothers, but like long-lost enemies.
"Yagami, are you investigating the yakuza again?" Shuichi Akai's green eyes gleamed dangerously. "This is not something you can get involved in."
"I'm happy to do it." Yagami narrowed his fierce eyes at Akai Shuichi. "What does my investigation into my parents' death have to do with you? If you hadn't been spying on my housekeeper and knew I was in Beika Town, would we still be able to meet and talk again, Mr. FBI Ace?"
“Fine, whatever. But I hope we won’t be enemies then.” He paused almost imperceptibly when he heard the word FBI, then put his hands in his pockets and spoke coldly. No sooner had he finished speaking than he suddenly made a move.
In a flash, Yagami Kamisama immediately raised his arm to block, and with his other hand, he took out a gun from his pocket. Akai Shuichi's hand holding the gun froze in mid-air. Looking at the gun in Yagami Kamisama's hand, he suddenly smiled, and a smug glint shone in his green eyes.
"Confiscated." Shuichi Akai forcefully pulled the gun from the other man's hand, smiled, and said, "Ordinary people with guns will be arrested and questioned by the Japanese police. Don't cause trouble, Yagami, do you remember?"
“I know. I can’t say I know you, and I can’t reveal your identity. FBI Agent Shuichi Akai.” Yagami’s eyes were resentful, but he didn’t make a scene. He just wanted to get rid of this big shot as soon as possible.
Do you know your roommate well?
"I don't know, it doesn't matter." He shrugged.
"He contacted you first?"
"Yes, we came to Beika Town on the same day and happened to meet."
"I see..." It's hard not to be suspicious. Shuichi Akai pondered for a moment, sizing up his younger brother, a reckless young man who habitually solved problems with violence and never considered the motives behind his actions. But this was precisely the kind of passion and impulsiveness unique to sixteen or seventeen-year-old boys.
Shuichi Akai took out the white gloves and shoe covers he had prepared from his pocket. After getting ready, he quietly entered Cheng You's room and slowly searched it. Everything was normal. There were professional books about computers on the desk, and the drawers were neat and orderly. Cheng You's study abroad documents were right at a glance.
After examining the document closely for a while, Shuichi Akai confirmed that it was an officially certified study abroad certificate, not a forgery.
Just as I had dispelled some of my doubts, I opened another drawer and found several sets of unopened surgical instruments and a wooden box.
Shuichi Akai stared into thought as he looked at the several brand-new surgical scalpels of various types. Was this Cheng You a medical student or a computer science student? Was he pursuing a double degree? Were Chinese university students really that capable?
He made a mental note of this little incident, then picked up the wooden box and looked at it. Inside was a property certificate, and he was familiar with the address, which was right across from the Mouri Detective Agency.
Looks like I should go check it out when I have time.
Shuichi Akai was very skilled at handling traces. He cleaned up all the traces of his entry, restored Cheng You's room to its original state, and then went to the guest room.
Aside from the traces of a child sleeping there, there was nothing else. According to Ye Shen Shangcan, the child was the younger brother of Cheng You's college classmate and only stayed for one night.
Even so, Shuichi Akai did not let his guard down. He regarded any stranger who deliberately approached him or those around him as an enemy until he was completely cleared of suspicion.
"What's your roommate's major?" He took off his gloves and shoe covers, put them in his pocket, and took them away to destroy.
"I don't know," Yagami Kamisama said indifferently, seemingly unconcerned about anything.
"He said he came to live with you because he didn't have a house?"
"Yes, this is our first time visiting Beika Town."
"But Cheng's documents show that he just arrived in Beika Town on August 1st. However, on August 2nd, the day you started sharing the apartment, he signed a property deed. Why did he continue living with you? Didn't you ever suspect anything?" Shuichi Akai said these words seriously, his green eyes flashing with sharpness as he looked at Kamishin Yagami.
"Oh? That's so rude of you, looking at someone's personal belongings."
"I'm on a mission," the man wearing a knitted hat said solemnly.
"He owns a dessert shop in that area. Why don't you go check it out?"
Yagami spoke calmly, and hearing Akai Shuichi's words, he too began to have some doubts about Cheng You, especially after encountering him in Nishino Ward... However, he didn't intend to tell Akai Shuichi; after all, it was his own business. But Cheng You didn't seem like an enemy at all, so he dismissed his suspicions and continued to treat Cheng You as a normal college student.
"A dessert shop? How multi-talented." Shuichi Akai scoffed and prepared to leave. "Don't mention my identity to him."
“Of course, I don’t want to hang out with you bunch of ‘righteous people’.”
After closing the door, Yagami took out his phone and glanced at the verification page of the Gray Fox Assassin's Dark Web. All he had to do was verify that he was a member of a gang; either a photo or text was acceptable.
After a moment's hesitation, Yagami entered a line of text, and the page finally stopped, waiting for administrator verification.
"So troublesome, tsk." Yagami scratched his head. He had spent a lot of effort investigating this dark web. After the administrator verified it, he could accept bounty missions on it, which would allow him to further understand the gangs and investigate them.
After putting away his phone, Yagami smiled with satisfaction. As night approached, his smile froze, and he coldly prepared his ghost costume, ready to go to work.
No matter what job he did, Yagami found it all rather dull. It wasn't as interesting as being on the path of justice, or more accurately, investigating the enemies who had killed his parents.
He still remembers that when he and his family lived in the United States, his parents died unexpectedly not long after they returned to Japan. Akai Shuichi did not investigate the matter to the end, but only said that it was very dangerous and told Yagami not to worry, that he would handle it.
Many years later, the only connection he has with his cousin Shuichi Akai is that case.
The two only met once after that. It was probably when Yagami skipped school in junior high to get into a fight and encountered a Japanese yakuza. Yagami fought with the yakuza and obtained a lot of information. That night, Yagami talked to Akai Shuichi about this clue.
The next day, Shuichi Akai rushed over and gave Yagami a good scolding.
They met again today. Although Shuichi Akai still had the same attitude, Mayor Yagami had already begun his investigation plan.
The next morning, Shuichi Akai disguised himself as Subaru Okiya and went to the "North and South Alley" dessert shop, only to find that it was closed that day.
Akai Shuichi:…………
A note from the author:
Akai: Why didn't they open the door when I came...
