Chapter 118 Seventy-Seven of the Myriad Realms

As a loud noise reached Marshal Maurice's ears, he looked up at the tightly closed door.

Watching the princess slam the door and leave, he sighed, a hint of sympathy or pity flickering in his eyes, and murmured:

"Alas, Your Highness, your trip to the palace where the Emperor is in seclusion may be..."

Marshal Maurice did not continue speaking. Knowing the personalities of the emperor and the queen, he could already imagine the queen's fate.

Picking up the communicator casually placed on the table, the princess naturally needed to inform His Majesty the Emperor of her upcoming trip to the Imperial Palace.

"Your Majesty, Princess Zhao Li has just arrived at the Institute of Strange Events in the capital and asked me about the death of the Second Prince."

I did not tell her the truth. She is currently on her way to your palace, presumably regarding the Second Prince. — Marshal Maurice.

After sending the edited message to the Emperor, Marshal Maurice finally succumbed to his exhaustion, collapsing heavily onto the numerous documents on the table. His eyes closed rapidly, and he instantly fell into a deep sleep.

So much so that even after a long while, he still hadn't seen the emperor's reply to his message.

“Maurice, I am aware of this matter. If you have time, please make preparations for the princess’s funeral.”

Unfortunately, Marshal Maurice, who was fast asleep, naturally did not see the message. He lay quietly on his desk, which was covered with various documents, with a faint breathing sound coming from his mouth. The screen of the communicator that he had casually placed also emitted a faint green light.

At that moment, Marshal Maurice's mature secretary walked in.

Seeing Marshal Maurice resting on the table, she simply slowed her pace and walked quietly to his side.

He gently removed his dark gray uniform, then bent down and carefully draped it over the sleeping Marshal Maurice.

It was while she was bending over that she inadvertently saw the message sent by the emperor on the communicator that was emitting a faint light.

Upon seeing the message, she was slightly surprised, wondering why the emperor would send this message to Marshal Maurice.

Her Highness, didn't she just come out of Marshal Maurice's office?

The doubts in her heart troubled her, but seeing Marshal Maurice sleeping soundly, she still showed a gentle smile.

She then put the message she had just seen out of her mind and stopped thinking about this level that she couldn't access.

After taking one last look at Marshal Maurice's resolute face, this was Marshal Maurice's personal secretary, and the person who spent the most time next to him every day.

She quietly walked out of the small office, and without looking around any longer, she closed the door that she had entered and exited countless times.

Just as she closed the door, a researcher in a white robe walked over. Judging from his appearance, he seemed to be going to see Marshal Maurice about something.

The experienced secretary quickly stepped forward to stop the researcher and asked in confusion:

"What brings you here to see Marshal Maurice?"

The researcher, seeing that she had stopped him, showed no expression, and simply said in a robotic voice:

"Our institute's budget is almost exhausted this month, so I've come to discuss with Marshal Maurice when next month's funding will be allocated."

Upon hearing the reason for the researcher's visit, the mature secretary showed a thoughtful expression, and then immediately spoke:

"Is that so? Could you come again tomorrow afternoon? Marshal Maurice is resting now. He hasn't rested for several days. Please understand."

Upon hearing the secretary's pleading tone, the researcher lowered his head as if deep in thought, and soon agreed to her request.

"Okay, I'll come back tomorrow afternoon. Anyway, the funds are enough to last for about two more days."

After saying that, he didn't waste any more words with the mature secretary in front of him and turned to leave.

Watching the departing researcher, the mature secretary breathed a sigh of relief; at least this time she had prevented Marshal Maurice from being bothered by some trivial matters.

In the empty corridor, the mature secretary stood ramrod straight at the office door.

This should have been her rest time, but in order to prevent Marshal Maurice from being disturbed by unimportant matters, she decided to use her free time to give Marshal Maurice more sleep.
