Chapter 2 Interlude

Gu Changqing pushed open the door and saw a middle-aged man in a green robe sitting behind a desk.

"This must be the original owner's father, Gu Nan," Gu Changqing thought to herself, then bowed slightly, clasped her hands in a fist salute to Gu Nan, and said:

“Father, I am ready to be recruited this time and can go at any time.”

Gu Nan looked up at Gu Changqing, nodded slightly, and then took out a ring from his pocket that was exactly the same as the one on Gu Changqing's finger, with purple patterns.

Gu Nan casually tossed the ring to Gu Changqing and said to her:

"This storage ring contains some spirit stones for cultivation, as well as other weapons and armor used in cultivation."

Gu Changqing caught the ring and put it on the middle finger of her left hand.

"Thank you, Father. When will we go to the sect to recruit?"

After listening to Gu Changqing's words, Gu Nan nodded. "Your grandfather and the others just sent me a message. They are currently recruiting in the north of the city."

After listening, Gu Chang was about to leave when Gu Nan called him back. Gu Nan then took out three talismans with intricate patterns from the ring on his finger.

After handing it over to Gu Changqing, he explained to her:

"This is a Shrinking Earth Talisman. One talisman can instantly teleport you a thousand miles away. With your Foundation Establishment cultivation, although you have the protection of the sect leader and your grandfather in the sect, if you go out to train, these three talismans can save your life in critical moments."

Gu Nan paused and then continued.

"After all, you are now the only heir of our family, and my only son, Gu Nan. It's best to be careful in everything you do."

Gu Chang nodded emphatically upon hearing Gu Nan's words of concern, and said with a hint of gratitude:

"Yes, Father, I will be careful."

After listening, Gu Nan didn't say anything more. He waved his arm and told Gu Changqing to go to the recruitment site on his own. Then he continued to read the book.

Gu Changqing quietly left the study and slowly closed the door behind him.

When Gu Changqing walked towards the recruitment location, the gratitude on his face was gone, replaced by his usual expressionless face.

But this is what Gu Changqing was thinking.

"Gratitude? It doesn't exist. Now that I've been reborn in this other world, family, friendship, and love will all become stepping stones on my path to immortality."

As for my family, when I was weak, I needed your resources and had to feign compliance. But when I become strong, I will sever this ties myself!

After saying that, he quickly left the city lord's mansion and headed to the recruitment site.

After leaving the city lord's mansion, Gu Changqing took out the Qiuxia Sword, a high-grade magic weapon given to him by Gu Nan, from his ring and rode the flying sword to the outside of the city.

The grades of magical artifacts are divided into low-grade, medium-grade, high-grade, and top-grade.

Spiritual artifacts (divided into low-grade, medium-grade, high-grade, and top-grade)

Magical treasures (superior, medium, superior, and top-grade)

Lingbao (divided into acquired lingbao and innate lingbao)

...

With the flying object in his mouth, Gu Changqing looked at the scene of the city below. This parting might separate his life from these mortals, or perhaps he had never had any interaction with them at all.

Having embarked on the path of cultivation, Gu Changqing no longer trusts anyone but herself, nor does she harbor any mindset towards anything other than self-interest.

Although flying on a sword is fast, Chaoyang City is too large. It takes a lot of time to fly from the city lord's mansion in the center to the outside of the city. During this time, Gu Changqing also became familiar with the original owner's spells and all kinds of magical treasures.

When Gu Changqing arrived at the recruitment site outside the city, all he saw was a huge platform standing in the open space. Apart from the old man sitting on the platform, there were a dozen or so other people on the platform. Two of them were recruiting applicants in front of the platform steps, while the rest stood respectfully behind the old man.

Upon seeing the old man on the high platform, Gu Changqing flew straight towards him. Once in front of the old man, Gu Changqing retrieved the Sunset Sword into his ring and said with a smile:

"Changqing greets Grandpa."

The old man chuckled and pointed to the seat next to him, inviting Gu Changqing to sit down.

Gu Changqing didn't put on any pretense and simply sat down.

After Gu Changqing sat down, the old man continued to speak.

"Changqing, the sect leader had high hopes for you at first. Once you go to the Luoxia Sect, just tell this old man what you need."

After listening to the message, Gu Changting gave a perfunctory reply and then closed his eyes to rest.

The old man was Gu Changqing's grandfather, a customer of the fourth elder of the inner sect of Luoxia Sect.

Just as Gu Changqing was about to ask the customer some questions about the Luoxia Sect.

The crowd below the platform, who were preparing to register, were also stirred up by Gu Changqing's act of flying towards the platform.

A person dressed entirely in black, standing on a high staircase, shouted loudly at Gu Changqing:

"Why can he just climb up to the platform without any assessment, while we have to wait here all day and pass that assessment before we can even go up?"

Just as the two examiners were about to go up and kick the person off, Gu Changqing waved his hand, signaling them to step back.

The two also knew Gu Changqing's identity. After all, the Fourth Elder had specifically instructed them that all the disciples recruited this time could die, and even if none of them died, they had to protect Gu Changqing.

Upon seeing Gu Changqing's gesture, the two tactfully withdrew.

Gu Changqing looked at the dark-skinned man on the steps and said with interest:

"Oh, what, you're not convinced?"

The man clenched his fists and said angrily, "That's right, our righteous path of cultivation emphasizes equality for all. Why should you be able to skip the line and pass the test directly? No matter what kind of family you come from or what kind of cultivation genius you are, you should all stand in line with us!"

After listening to what the man said, Gu Chang smiled slightly, glanced at the crowd below the stage, and found that everyone else was standing calmly in place except for this man, so he figured that this man was still a hothead.

So Gu Changqing smiled and said to the man:

"When you come out to cultivate, it's all about strength and background. Where are you from?"

The man chuckled dismissively after hearing this, then raised his head and looked directly at Gu Changqing, answering each word clearly:

“My name is Nissan. I was born in Xiaoqing Village, 50 miles east of Chaoyang City. I am 16 years old and have already reached the fifth level of Qi Refining.”

Gu Chang listened to the man's answer and smiled dismissively.

"So he's just a nobody."
