Chapter 97: People covered in sunlight cannot be looked at directly

She put the mushrooms in a foam box. To prevent them from getting spoiled on the way, she also put a few bottles of frozen mineral water in it, and then sealed it with tape.

After finishing everything, a thin layer of sweat had appeared on her forehead.

When Pei Zhiting came in from outside, he saw boxes neatly arranged in the living room.

It was also put in a red gift bag and tied with a bow.

Song Xijiao was sitting at the desk writing something, and Pei Zhiting walked closer to take a look.

The first line on the colored paper: Eighteen precautions for eating mushrooms.

He chuckled, hugged her from behind, put his head on her shoulder, and read the instructions:

"Half an eye will open to hallucinations. After being poisoned, you'll see many tiny figures, less than a foot tall, dancing before your eyes..."

He paused and read, "Like a fairy tale world?"

Song Xijiao patted his hand that was resting on her abdomen.

"Don't interrupt me, I haven't finished writing yet."

Pei Zhiting hugged her tighter, "Jiaojiao, why are you so cute?"

"But they may not read what you write."

"Whether I write or not is my business, and whether they read or not is their business."

In the evening, Pei Zhiting personally went to the kitchen and made a table full of dishes with these mushrooms, including mushroom soup, fried white mushrooms with soy sauce, vegetarian spare ribs with black pepper, vegetarian shrimp balls, vegetarian duck, and fried steak with red lactobacillus.

Song Xijiao was enjoying her meal when she suddenly remembered something and said to Pei Zhiting:

"On my way back to the company this afternoon, I passed by the Xiting Hotel and saw someone whose back looked a lot like you."

Pei Zhiting picked up a piece of mushroom for her with chopsticks and said casually:

"Yeah?"

"Well, but I think you didn't wear that outfit when you went out this morning. Maybe you've been too tired lately and are hallucinating."

Pei Zhiting's hand paused as he was picking up the food, but quickly returned to normal. He put the mushrooms into her bowl and looked at her with a faint smile on his face.

"I've been very tired recently. Tomorrow we'll have mushroom hotpot with old hens as the soup base to nourish you."

There was already a small mountain of food in Song Xijiao's bowl, and she picked up a piece of food with chopsticks and fed it to him.

"You work hard, you eat."

Pei Zhiting held her hand holding the chopsticks, lowered his head, held the chopsticks in his mouth, chewed carefully, and when he looked up, his eyes became deep.

"Feed by Jiaojiao, it's especially delicious."

What did she notice?

That night, Pei Zhiting said that mushrooms are too nutritious and can easily cause indigestion.

She had a dream.

In the dream, Pei Zhiting was wearing white casual clothes, holding her hand while shopping in a maternity and baby store.

The next moment, he was pushing the man in white casual clothes against the glass door.

She woke up with a start, sat up, and felt around, but there was no one there.

She turned on the light. The room was empty, with only the sound of rain falling outside the window, occasionally accompanied by thunder.

She checked her phone. It was 3:30 in the morning.

She got up and walked barefoot to the study. The warm yellow light instantly dispelled the darkness in the room. Pei Zhiting paced back and forth in front of the desk with one hand on his waist, holding the mobile phone to his ear in the other hand. He had a serious expression and a cruel look between his brows.

Hearing the door open, he suddenly turned around, the cruelty in his eyes faded, replaced by his usual gentleness, and waved to her.

"Why did you wake up?"

Song Xijiao walked over, put her arms around his waist, and put her face against his heart.

"I can't sleep without you around."

Her feet were beautiful, slender and well-proportioned, and one could see the pale blue blood vessels of varying thickness winding beneath the skin.

Pei Zhiting held her in his arms and sat at the desk.

"Stop it, I'm on the phone."

Only then did Song Xijiao realize that he was holding the phone to his ear in his other hand.

"Who are you talking to on the phone so late?"

"A client."

Pei Zhiting lifted her up, rested his head on her shoulder, stroked her back with one hand, and held the phone to his ear with the other. He didn't know what the other party said, and he chuckled.

Song Xijiao rested her head on the side of his neck, her lips one centimeter away from his Adam's apple.

"Let's do this for now, we'll talk about it tomorrow."

Without waiting for a response, he hung up the phone and threw it on the desk.

The chandelier was also shaking, back and forth, making her dizzy.

When Song Xijiao woke up again, it was already nine o'clock. The seat next to her was already cold. Pei Zhiting had gotten up at some point.

She put on her slippers and walked to the stairs. She saw Pei Zhiting, wearing white casual clothes, squatting in the garden, pruning branches with scissors in his hand. Song Xijiao leaned on the railing and shouted.

"Pei Zhiting."

Pei Zhiting turned his head and looked up. The early morning sunlight shone on his face through the white lace parasol, making him look gentle and elegant.

Song Xijiao suddenly remembered a sentence she had read somewhere: One cannot look directly at a person covered in sunlight.

He put the scissors aside, stood up, brushed the dirt off his hands, and reached out to her.

"Be careful, don't fall."

She grabbed his hand, ran down the stairs, and jumped on him. Pei Zhiting hugged her and said in surprise:

"Why are you jumping around like a rabbit?"

"Don't you just like my tone?"

Pei Zhiting carried her to the living room.

"Why are you wearing this outfit today?"

"Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"

An inexplicable emotion flashed across his eyes, but quickly disappeared, so quickly that Song Xijiao almost thought it was an illusion.

"You don't like seeing me in light-colored clothes."

"Why are you so well behaved today? Did you do something to offend me?"

Pei Zhiting placed his hand on her waist, moved it up along her spine, and gently pinched the back of her neck.

"Don't talk nonsense."

Song Xijiao cried out "ouch" when she was pinched and opened his hand.

"Go away, don't disturb me from watching TV."

Pei Zhiting pinched it again before getting up, sitting on the sofa beside him, picking up the teapot on the stone table, pouring a cup of tea, and taking a sip.

"Don't look at it for too long, or your eyesight might go up to the point where it's irreversible."

"After all these years, why are you still picking on me?"

Song Xijiao talked for a while, and when she saw that he didn't say anything, she turned her head and saw that he was drinking tea with his head down, and his face was tense. This was an expression she rarely saw on his face. For a moment, she couldn't help but feel a little dazed.

"Pei Zhiting, what's wrong with you?"

Pei Zhiting put the teacup in his hand on the stone table and stood up.

"I have something to do at the company. I'm leaving now. Don't be bored at home all the time."

After he finished speaking, he strode towards the door without waiting for her to speak. Song Xijiao looked at his back and always felt that there seemed to be something different about him today, but when she thought about it carefully, there seemed to be nothing different.

Today is Sunday.
