Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Chi Jun didn't actually go to the toilet.

He simply stood in the dark northwest corner of the compound for a while, enjoying the breeze, before turning back to his small rented room a dozen minutes later.

The small rented room was quiet inside and out, with only a dim yellow light casting a slanted shadow from the doorway in the corridor.

When Chi Jun entered, there was no one at the table.

Xu Qingzhou slumped over the edge of the bed, seemingly drifting off to sleep.

"Xu Qingzhou?"

He walked to the bedside and called softly.

The little girl didn't move at all; she was sleeping soundly.

Her face was flushed after drinking, and her lips were a light, almost transparent pink, like a soft, tender jelly.

Chi Jun stared at her for a while, then, as if possessed, reached out and mischievously pinched her nose.

"You said you'd always be good to me, and this is how you treat me?"

He raised an eyebrow slightly, his voice low and soft, with a hint of teasing:

"Leave me with this huge mess to clean up? Huh?"

Xu Qingzhou felt suffocated in her sleep, instinctively turned her head, slapped his hand away, and frowned, looking somewhat annoyed by him.

Chi Jun chuckled:

"Little drunkard."

After saying that, he took the opportunity to pinch her cheeks twice, then picked up the blanket and covered her with it before turning around and tidying up the table.

In the stillness of the night, a gentle breeze carries the distant barking of dogs.

A bright moon shone quietly in the quiet room. Chi Jun bent down and slowly cleared away the leftover food from the dining table.

Throw away what should be thrown away, keep what should be kept, and wipe away what should be wiped.

Half an hour later, Chi Jun carried a heavy garbage bag and threw it downstairs.

As I turned around, I was startled by the cold wind that rushed towards me.

Through the dim light, Chi Jun saw the male ghost floating about a meter away from him, pouting, looking somewhat unhappy.

Before Chi Jun could speak, he cut to the chase and asked:

"Brother Jun, you like the little mute girl, right?"

This is the same question again.

Chi Jun didn't stop walking and passed directly through the male ghost's shadow.

Are you out of your mind?

Someone else is probably the one with a brain fart...

The male ghost muttered to himself, then looked up and saw Chi Jun stop and turn to look at him. Only then did he belatedly realize that he had blurted out his true thoughts.

But seeing that the atmosphere between Chi Jun and the little mute was getting more and more awkward, and Zhang Pengfei was about to die, he couldn't just change his mind at the last minute and not leave, could he?

Thinking of this, the male ghost pursed his lips, but still mustered his courage and said:

"Brother Jun, let me just remind you: Zhang Pengfei is dying. Little Mute is good, but... all good things must come to an end."

In the pitch-black night, a cold wind suddenly swept through.

The male ghost looked up and, through the swirling dust and leaves, saw only Chi Jun staring at him, his expression inscrutable, his eyes unreadable.

*

Before we knew it, it was mid-to-late December. The temperature plummeted, and the town seemed to have officially entered winter overnight.

With clothing stores rushing to launch new products, Chi Jun, as a photo model, has been quite busy lately and hasn't had any leisure time for several days in a row.

After finally getting through a peak period, Chi Jun finally had some free time and made plans to play ball with some friends after a long time.

As a result, their plans were disrupted by a sudden heavy snowfall.

In the end, they had no choice but to move the venue from the basketball court to the billiards room.

"Hello, hello? I told you that really is my mom. Her voice is quite young. She—hello, hello?"

With a hole-in-one shot, Chi Jun glanced up at Wang Shuai, who was making a phone call in the corner again.

This scene feels somewhat familiar.

Li Rui had the same feeling. He pointed at Wang Shuai and asked Chi Jun, "Wasn't this guy arguing with his girlfriend on the phone during the last basketball game?"

Chi Jun: "It seems so."

Remembering Wang Shuai's previous talk of "sweet torment," Li Rui scoffed, "What's so great about that? It's just dating, why the hell do you have to post about it every day?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than Wang Shuai interjected from the side:

"I won't be sunbathing anymore, there's nothing left to sunbathe in."

"?"

Several people turned around.

Wang Shuai stood up from his chair, holding his phone, his face ashen with despair.

"I'm single again."

He showed his phone screen to the outside, and several people crowded around to take a look.

After arguing on WeChat, the other party finally announced the breakup. Wang Shuai didn't try to stop them and simply said one word—"Break up!"

Everyone used to criticize Wang Shuai for being inhumane and constantly showing off his relationship, but now that he's broken up, they're offering him advice.

"No, they really broke up?"

"Not going to try to coax me anymore? Aren't you two used to arguing every other day?"

Wang Shuai scratched his hair in frustration.

"Screw your sweet talk, you're just spoiled rotten! This time I'm determined to break up."

Seeing this, the others wisely stopped trying to persuade him and began to comfort him, saying that there are plenty of fish in the sea and he shouldn't be hung up on just one. They suggested that they could introduce him to a girl someday and that he would be a hero again in a few months.

Wang Shuai was feeling irritable and absentmindedly responded with a few "uh-huhs," when suddenly he remembered something.

"Oh right, Xu Jun."

Chi Jun was getting into position to pound the ball when he heard this, and turned his head to look at him.

"how."

Does your sister like watching plays? Like the famous "Jane Eyre".

As he spoke, Wang Shuai pulled two tickets out of his pocket: "It's for Christmas Day. I was originally planning to go with my girlfriend, but now it's unnecessary. Here you go."

Chi Jun: "Why would I do this to you? You and your brother can go."

“What’s the point of two grown men watching this? Besides, my brother has tutoring class that day.”

Another head immediately popped out from the side: "Then give it to me?"

Wang Shuai was in a bad mood after his breakup, and he reached out and pushed the other person's head back.

"What good is it to give you this? Do you want her as soon as you've gotten her? Besides, I don't think your girl is the artsy type. Taking her to see Jane Eyre? You might as well take her out to eat some big pork knuckle."

"...Damn, you're so venomous! My crush is just a little chubby, that's called being curvy, what do you know! No wonder women dump me!"

"Who the hell are you saying dumped whom? I was the one who dumped her! If you're so tough, don't run away!"

"Hehehehe... You can't hit me, you can't hit me~"

"..."

*

Because Wang Shuai was in a bad mood, the afternoon's billiards game seemed rather uninteresting, and it ended before evening.

Just as Chi Jun was about to turn back, the boy who had asked for the ticket earlier sidled up to him again.

"Xu Jun, could you give me your ticket?"

Chi Jun raised an eyebrow: "Reason?"

The guy originally intended to tell me, saying that maybe one day he'd find a girlfriend, but for some reason, his words suddenly took a turn and became:

"People usually go out on dates, watch movies, or see plays during Christmas. You and your sister aren't a couple, don't you think it's weird to go to a play together?"

Chi Jun frowned and thought for a moment, then said, "I don't mind."

"..."

The boy pressed on: "People would think you two aren't siblings, but a couple."

"Yeah."

For some reason, Chi Jun chuckled before saying, "Anyway, I can't give you this ticket."

"..."

After failing to get the ticket again, the boy looked frustrated. Even after Chi Jun had walked away, he still called out unwillingly:

"It's really Xu Jun! Who knows, I might just be able to find a girlfriend this way, and you'll be the hero!"

"Hey Xu Jun! You're only thinking about your sister! What if she goes on a date with some boy for Christmas? Xu Jun? Xu Jun—"

*

When Chi Jun returned home, Xu Qingzhou was not there.

She recently found a part-time job at a fried chicken shop and doesn't get home until after 10 p.m. every night.

When Chi Jun found out, he seemed to have something to say, but after moving his lips, he ultimately said nothing and simply handed her a small red bell.

Xu Qingzhou was puzzled and shook the bell in his hand.

Why are you giving me this?

“Just in case,” Chi Jun said, “if you encounter any danger, just shake it.”

So that's its function.

Xu Qingzhou smiled sweetly at him, and in front of Chi Jun, she carefully put the bell away close to her body.

As expected, Chi Jun waited until 10:30 p.m. before Xu Qingzhou returned that night.

After returning home and putting down her schoolbag, she took a shower first.

Back in the small rented room, it was already eleven o'clock. Seeing that Chi Jun was still awake, she asked, "Aren't you going to sleep yet?"

Chi Jun was leaning against the headboard, casually flipping through a book. Upon hearing this, he looked up at Xu Qingzhou.

His gaze lingered on her face for two seconds—

No rush.

Xu Qingzhou nodded and didn't say anything more. He dried his hair with a towel and sat down at his desk to do his homework.

Just then, Chi Jun suddenly called her.

"Xu Qingzhou".

Xu Qingzhou paused in taking a pen out of his pencil case and turned to look at him.

Their eyes met, and Chi Jun moved his lips, about to speak, when for some reason the phrase popped into his mind again—"Only young couples go out to see movies and plays on Christmas!"

Little, Love, Couple.

Chi Jun frowned, suddenly feeling that the invitation he was about to receive seemed to make him appear to have ulterior motives.

Seeing that he didn't speak, Xu Qingzhou wrote on the paper: 【What's wrong?】

Chi Jun glanced at her, pressed his tongue against his cheek, and remained calm.

"Oh, I was just asking if you're free on Christmas night. I have two tickets to a play called 'Jane Eyre'."

[Jane Eyre?]

Xu Qingzhou's eyes lit up.

"Um."

Chi Jun's lips curled up unconsciously as he took out the ticket and asked her to confirm it.

However, when Xu Qingzhou touched the ticket and reluctantly handed it back, Chi Jun had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, the next moment—

Xu Qingzhou: [Sorry, but I had an appointment that day, and the time conflicted...]

Chi Jun: "..."

Since he first followed Xu Qingzhou in his fox form, he had never been treated like this, "abandoned." Chi Jun frowned subconsciously.

"who?"

As soon as I finished speaking, a face suddenly popped into my mind.

Chi Jun slowly raised his eyebrows: "Zheng Yangshu?"

Xu Qingzhou, holding the paper card, nodded slowly with an apologetic expression.

Chi Jun: "..."

He, Chi Jun, was actually abandoned by Xu Qingzhou because of Zheng Yangshu.

However, what occupied Chi Jun's mind even more arrogantly at this moment was another sentence from his friend—

Christmas is usually a time for couples to go to the movies or plays together.

Xu Jun, you're only thinking about your sister. What if she's already made plans with some young man?

After a few seconds of eye contact, Chi Jun nodded, with an "OJBK, I don't care" expression.

"Okay, I understand. I'll find someone else."

Seeing this, Xu Qingzhou felt a little better, nodded, and turned to go back to continue working on his problems. But before he even sat down, Chi Jun suddenly asked again:

"You two...are you going to see a movie?"

Xu Qingzhou froze.

She turned her head and stared at Chi Jun, then nodded silently again after a few seconds.
