Chapter 102 Cold and Hard

Mu Bai gently pinched Su Ruanruan's cheeks again, picked up a spoon, and fed her warm water spoonful by spoonful. However, the effect was not obvious.

Mu Bai smiled and picked up a handkerchief to wipe the water that had spilled from the corner of her mouth.

"Look at you, even drinking water you're so naughty. If you don't wake up soon, I'm going to laugh at you."

"Ruanruan, Miss Bai has been imprisoned by Lord Bai. It's all because of me that she attacked Zeng Yuan and the others."

"Logically, I should go see her, but I don't want to and shouldn't go. I know she has feelings for me, but I already have you in my heart, so I should put an end to her hopes."

"You know, I've always refused her, but she always makes a scene, and we've both been whipped by her quite a few times."

"I know she's hoping I'll visit her, so I shouldn't show up, right?"

May she soon sever her ties to love and find a dashing young man.

Because the case was heard late today, we ate dinner late as well.

On the table were two dishes and a soup: stuffed eggplant with tofu, tofu with four kinds of meatballs, and smooth tofu soup.

It was all tofu. Mu Bai never expected that Lord Bai would be so obsessed with tofu.

After the meal, Bai Bai asked Mu Bai to stay behind.

"My daughter, Baiyun, is imprisoned. I wonder if Young Master Mu has heard of this?"

Mu Bai said, "I know that Miss Bai suffered in prison because of my affairs. I am truly ashamed!"

Mu Bai stood up and respectfully bowed to Bai.

"You don't need to feel guilty; this matter has nothing to do with you. Letting her suffer in prison won't hurt; I've spoiled her rotten. She never thinks about the consequences and acts willfully."

He paused, then added, "Although my daughter has a whole host of shortcomings, in my opinion, she is not entirely without merit. Don't you agree?"

"Miss Bai has a forthright personality, is bold and responsible, and is very...lively."

Lively? Okay!

Bai Bai thought to himself that his daughter was not just a little bit lively; she had been tearing down houses and causing trouble since she was a child, and her lawsuits had never stopped.

Actually, this wasn't her first time in prison; she had also been imprisoned in a neighboring county.

He wanted to promote his daughter to Mu Bai, but he couldn't bring himself to say it.

His own fruit was sour and astringent, and everyone else frowned in disgust. How could he possibly present it to others?

Moreover, he could see through Mu Bai's attitude towards Su Ruanruan.

The look in his eyes was so intense, it seemed he wouldn't marry anyone but her.

Baiyun has no chance, and so does he.

After a moment of silence, Bai Bai said, "I have a request for Young Master Mu..."

"I dare not accept such a request. I would like to hear the details. If it is possible, I will do my best to fulfill it."

Bai Bai patted Mu Bai on the shoulder, "I hope that Young Master Mu will not visit Bai Yun in prison out of momentary pity."

Mu Bai was taken aback for a moment.

"I am ashamed to say that I also had the same thought."

"I was afraid that you would regard me as an ungrateful person, but I did not expect that your thoughts coincide with mine."

The two chatted for a while longer, but Mu Bai was really worried about Su Ruanruan, so he bid farewell to Bai Bai.

In the side room, the maid had already fed Su Ruanruan some congee, and there was also a bowl of medicinal soup on the table.

They only left with peace of mind after Mu Bai returned.

Just like when he fed Su Ruanruan water before, he poured a spoonful of medicine into Su Ruanruan's mouth.

But the brown medicine still dripped from the corner of his mouth.

Mu Bai wiped her mouth again, his gaze falling on her pale lips.

He picked up the medicine bowl and took a sip; the bitter taste instantly spread between his lips and teeth.

With a flushed face, he bent down and slowly transferred the medicine from his mouth into Su Ruanruan's mouth.

Her lips were soft, cool, and refreshing, like the clear, sweet spring water in the mountains on a spring day.

After repeating this process several times, the bowl of medicine was finally emptied.

He then picked up a piece of icing sugar (rock candy) and fed it to Su Ruanruan.

Once the sweet taste dissipates in your mouth, you won't feel bitter anymore!

Thinking this to himself, Mu Bai tucked the blanket around her again and stayed by her bedside.

In prison

Baiyun sat cross-legged on the ground, looking at the tofu dishes in the food box, and turned her eyes away in disgust.

"Ugh, tofu, tofu, and more tofu! My dad isn't sick of it, but I am!"

"Miss, the master says that tofu is good for your complexion, and long-term use can even whiten your skin."

"Tch, what a load of nonsense. Su Ruanruan said it was beauty-enhancing tofu, and he actually believed her. She's just fooling this silly old man."

“Miss, the master is a refined and easy-going man, not even thirty years old. How could he be the old man you are describing? If he heard this, he would surely give you a beating.”

"Anyway, I don't care. I'm not eating tofu. I'd rather eat a hard steamed bun than tofu."

The maid bent down, took a steamed bun from under the food box, and handed it to Baiyun. "No one knows a daughter better than her father. Master understands Miss best."

Baiyun, "..."

"Hard?"

The steamed bun was cold and hard; I wonder how long it had been sitting there.

The maid nodded dismissively, "Yes, that's why Master understands you. Miss herself said she'd rather eat a hard steamed bun than take advantage of this. And here you are, Master has granted your wish."

"He truly loves you very much."

Bai Yun: "..."

Love and affection? This is a blessing for you, do you want it?

"Um... how is Su Ruanruan?"

The maid said, "Miss Su is still unconscious, but Mu Bai is taking care of her."

"Did you tell him I was in jail?"

"Of course I did. I mentioned it during dinner."

Bai Yun took a bite of the steamed bun; it was dry and hard. Just like Mu Bai's heart—how could it be so hard!
