"Hmph, hypocrite!" Bai Yun scoffed, unimpressed.
Su Ruanruan's eyelashes trembled, and she lowered her head in grievance.
“Even now, you still don’t repent. I had good intentions, but you spoke recklessly and judged me with your petty mind! I’ve really ruined you.”
"Lord Bai, please don't be angry. I know Miss Bai is innocent, romantic, straightforward, and lovely. I won't take her unintentional words to heart," Su Ruanruan said, patting Bai Bai's hand to comfort him.
"You're just too kind!" Bai Bai was a little distracted, the warmth of her soft fingertips still lingering on the back of his hand.
Such a well-behaved person, how wonderful it would be to marry him.
"Father, you've been blinded by greed! What's so good about her? She's just pretending!"
"Last time in jail, she stepped on my hand with her foot, why don't you believe me?"
"Shut up, Ruan Ruan isn't like that! Sigh, you're too unruly, you don't act like a proper girl at all, you really give me a headache."
Bai Bai rubbed his aching temples, looking utterly disappointed.
Other people's daughters are well-behaved and obedient, but his daughter is someone who causes endless worry.
“Anger is bad for your health, Lord Bai. Please take care of your health. I do have a way to help Miss Bai to cultivate her mind and body and to calm her temper.”
"What method?"
Bai Yun also pricked up her ears to listen, but Su Ruanruan glanced at her, then moved a few steps closer to Bai Bai and whispered a few words in his ear.
Bai Bai seemed to be deep in thought, glancing at Bai Yun.
"Sir, someone from above has arrived."
The voices of the jailers outside the cell interrupted his thoughts.
He frowned. "The higher-ups..."
Why would they want to see him at this time? Could it be related to Constable Zhou?
Bai Bai looked at Su Ruanruan with gentle eyes, "I'll be right back. You should have dinner quickly. If you need anything, just call the jailer."
As he turned to leave, he added worriedly, "You brat, you mustn't bully Ruan Ruan, or don't blame your father for being impolite."
"Father, I'm innocent..." Bai Yun cried out, but Bai Bai had already left.
Bai Yun stood with her hands on her hips, pacing back and forth in front of Su Ruanruan.
But Su Ruanruan only focused on eating the dishes in front of her and didn't seem to care about paying attention to her.
"Hey, what exactly did you say to my dad? I know you're up to no good, you're really wicked."
Su Ruanruan almost laughed in anger, "Am I really that bad? If I were, you wouldn't even be able to afford steamed buns right now."
"You'll never have the chance to glare at me like that; you'd be in for a spanking from your dad."
Su Ruanruan added, "I see you like martial arts, so you probably don't know how to do needlework, do you?"
"What, needlework? Are you making my dad force me to learn embroidery?"
Su Ruanruan nodded, "That's a good option."
She had wanted to embroider a purse for Mu Bai, but embroidery was too difficult, and the finished product was too ugly. She was too embarrassed to show it to him, so she threw it away.
For Baiyun, sitting quietly to do needlework is probably more painful than being killed.
Seeing Bai Yun's utterly dejected expression, Su Ruanruan continued, "If it weren't for the fact that you helped Mu Bai, I would definitely have instigated your father to give you a good beating."
"What, you know?" Bai Yun thought for a moment, "It's good that you know. All the grievances that Brother Mu Bai suffered at the academy were because of you. You're so annoying."
"Could you give Mu Bai to me? If Mu Bai stays with you, they will definitely continue to bully him."
"If you feel wronged, then... then I'll just reluctantly agree to let my father marry you."
Su Ruanruan, "..."
She no longer wanted to talk to Baiyun.
Just as she reached for the chopsticks on the table, she accidentally knocked one down. Su Ruanruan lowered her head and reached her hand into the haystack, only to touch something soft.
My scalp tingled instantly, and I jumped up in a flash.
"Rat, there's a rat."
She was terrified of mice, so she quickly hid behind Baiyun.
"Coward, what is there to be afraid of?"
She often saw them in the prison cell, and would even play with them when she was bored.
Seeing that Su Ruanruan was scared, she had another idea to tease her. She made strange noises to attract the rats.
Holding the mouse by its tail, she waved it in front of Su Ruanruan, blocking her wherever she ran.
"Ah..." Su Ruanruan was so frightened that she ran away in all directions.
But before he knew it, he had bumped into a solid wall of flesh.
Before she could even see who it was, she was pulled into their arms, their cold, sharp eyes sweeping over Bai Yun's hands.
Baiyun shrank his neck, picked up the rat, and sat down in the corner of the cell.
It's really strange. Her father is the county magistrate, and Huo Yan is the head constable. He should be the one listening to her.
But every time I see him, I feel inexplicably afraid and dare not act recklessly in front of him.
Was it the horrifying scars on his face? Or was it the intense killing intent emanating from him?
"You're willing to kill someone, but you're afraid of a rat?"
The other person's voice was very soft, but it startled Su Ruanruan.
When she looked up again, she met Huo Yan's probing eyes.
"No, I didn't, you're lying!"
She quickly pushed him away, breaking free from his hold.
"You feel guilty just because I said something casually?" Huo Yan's deep eyes narrowed slightly.
It seemed like he was both observing and probing.
Su Ruanruan automatically distanced herself from him and smiled gently, "I don't understand what you're saying."
Although Bai Yun was somewhat intimidated by Huo Yan, she still mustered her courage and asked, "Is my father going to let me out?"
Huo Yan: "Your father is indeed going to release someone, but it's not you."
"Su Ruanruan, you can leave now!"
Baiyun, "?"
Knowing that her father didn't love her, Baiyun sat down angrily.
