Su Ruanruan gently pinched her rosy cheeks and comforted her, "You don't need to blame yourself. This has nothing to do with you. They were after me anyway." "It's just... apart from the heir of the Prince of Zhennan, I really can't think of anyone I've offended."
"Before he died, Uncle Gu gritted his teeth and refused to reveal who had imprisoned him and me."
"And Xiaoyu who kidnapped me. I never offended him. There must be a mastermind behind him, but I don't know who he works for."
Ziwu sobbed as she said, "Master, I heard that after General Huo learned that you had been arrested, he went directly to the Prince of Zhennan to settle accounts. He thought that person had arrested you, but that person denied it to the death."
"For this, General Huo was so angry that he blinded one of his eyes, saying that it was to punish him for the harm he had done to you, as a warning to others."
"Finally, the Prince of Zhennan angrily reported the matter to the Emperor, and General Huo was punished with fifty strokes of the cane and ordered to stay at home for a month to reflect on his mistakes."
"After the access control was lifted, he immediately started looking for you everywhere."
Last night, in my hazy state, I seemed to hear your conversation with General Huo. My lady, your words were a bit too harsh. General Huo has feelings for you...
“Whether he has it or not is irrelevant now. I will not have any further ties with him.” Su Ruanruan said firmly. “Hurry up and eat your buns. Later, ask someone to find out the location of the General’s Mansion and return this purse to him.”
Ziwu looked troubled. "But Master, we are penniless. Let alone finding a place to stay in the capital, we may not even be able to find enough to eat."
Su Ruanruan looked down at the snow-white fur of the white creature. It had really grown quite a bit in the days since she last saw it. Perhaps understanding the phrase "can't even afford to eat," it raised its head as if it could read minds.
But then Su Ruanruan was curiously looking at it. The dog was chewing on a bun, and its originally satisfied little face suddenly scrunched up. It stared at Su Ruanruan pitifully with its round, big dog eyes.
Her little mouth occasionally made "woo-woo" sounds, which were incredibly cute and endearing.
Su Ruanruan gently stroked its soft fur with her fingertips and said softly, "Silly boy, you are the keepsake that Brother Mubai left me. How could I bear to sell you?"
"The mountains and rivers seem to block the way, but then a village appears amidst the willows and flowers. I refuse to believe that I will starve to death with my own two hands."
Su Ruanruan instructed Ziwu to take Bairuan to find the General's Mansion.
Then, she covered half of her face with the torn strip of cloth and slowly walked down the bustling street.
Food is the most important thing for people, and she urgently needed money. She thought about showing off her culinary skills at a restaurant; surely someone would appreciate her cooking. If she could also sell a few recipes, solving her immediate financial crisis wouldn't be a problem. As for practicing medicine, she really didn't want to.
Thinking this, she looked around, wondering where to start, while feeling uneasy, as if a pair of eyes were staring intently at her from behind.
She turned around abruptly and saw a father and son looking at her from afar.
The man was none other than Su Zhen and his illegitimate son, Su Zhiping.
Seeing Su Ruanruan looking at them, Su Zhen shakily stretched out his hand, muttering something under his breath.
His face was full of sorrow; he looked exactly like a pitiful old father who had been abandoned by his daughter.
Su Zhiping supported him from the side, his face full of worry.
Su Ruanruan had no desire to have anything to do with them, so she turned and left in a hurry, but unexpectedly Su Zhiping caught up with her.
Seeing this, Su Ruanruan quickened her pace, as if avoiding a snake or scorpion.
"Oh no! Someone has fainted!" A cry of alarm suddenly came from behind.
Su Ruanruan's mind seemed to lose control instantly, and she involuntarily stopped walking.
She turned around and saw Su Zhiping running back like an arrow.
Perhaps out of a doctor's instinct, Su Ruanruan felt a strong urge to check on Su Zhen, who was lying on the ground.
However, from a distance, Su Zhen did not appear to be in any immediate danger.
Su Ruanruan didn't want to meddle in other people's business; the Su family had nothing to do with her. Her eyes were as cold as ice as she continued walking forward without looking back, as if everything around her was irrelevant.
She didn't see the desolate look on Su Zhen's face as he was carried away by the servants, like a withered leaf falling in the wind.
Because of the unexpected incident, Su Ruanruan's once calm and undisturbed heart was once again stirred into turbulent waves. She couldn't help but recall the abbot's words, and her heart was filled with confusion.
Where should she go? What path lies ahead? These questions, like heavy shackles, made her steps increasingly arduous.
When Su Ruanruan came to her senses, she found an unremarkable carriage blocking her way. She was about to go around it when she realized that her path had been cut off.
Su Ruanruan sniffed and raised her beautiful eyes. She saw that the person in front of her had skin as white as snow and eyes as sharp as knives. Although he was a seven-foot-tall man, he exuded a feminine aura.
"Miss Su, my master invites you." The voice was high-pitched and thin, and the man's appearance reminded one of a eunuch in a movie. Su Ruanruan was slightly taken aback, her gaze slowly moving downwards, and the eunuch had already made a gesture of invitation.
Su Ruanruan nervously looked around, only to be surprised to find that several people had appeared around the carriage at some point. Their eyes were as sharp as hawks', revealing their sharpness; they were clearly not ordinary people.
Now that things have come to this, even if she is extremely unwilling to get on the bus, she probably has no choice but to do so.
Su Ruanruan was reluctantly helped into the carriage, but she was involuntarily stunned by its interior. Who would have thought that this ordinary-looking carriage would have such a wonderful interior?
