Chapter 43 Picking on the softest persimmon?

Baiyun raised the whip in her hand and lashed it out this way.

The people at the wonton shop were so frightened that they scattered in all directions.

Mu Bai grabbed Su Ruanruan's hand and tried to escape towards the door, but Bai Yun wouldn't let them go and never gave them a chance to get close to the door.

Mu Bai led Su Ruanruan to hide, while Bai Yun brandished her whip.

Several tables were in a mess, with steaming wontons overturned and spilled all over the floor.

Two more plates were rolled onto the ground and shattered into pieces.

The young man begged and pleaded, "Please stop hitting him, please stop hitting him!"

But Baiyun's gaze remained fixed on those two tightly clasped hands.

The raised whip was about to strike Su Ruanruan's back.

Mu Bai caught a glimpse of this and, without hesitation, immediately stood behind Su Ruanruan, protecting her tightly. However, the expected pain did not come.

The whip was already in someone's hand, and the force was so great that it pulled Baiyun to the ground.

"Ouch~ my chin."

Huo Yan glanced sideways at the woman groaning on the ground before throwing the whip back down.

When Su Ruanruan saw Huo Yan again, the expression on her face instantly froze.

What is he doing here?

She had a feeling that seeing him wouldn't bring anything good.

"Thank you," Su Ruanruan said.

She had no intention of lingering. She just wanted to take advantage of Baiyun's fall flat on her face and quickly leave this place of trouble.

She quickly grabbed Mu Bai's hand and prepared to run.

But the next moment, she found herself encircled in an embrace as hard as a wall of flesh.

She saw Huo Yan looking down at her, and when their eyes met, she could clearly see the mockery in his eyes.

She tucked a strand of Su Ruanruan's hair behind her ear and smiled, "You're being naughty again, aren't you? How can you hold another man's hand when you have me by your side?"

Su Ruanruan: "..."

What's going on here?

Looking at the hand resting on Su Ruanruan's waist, Mu Bai felt as if his heart had plummeted to the bottom.

"Let go of Ruan Ruan."

Mu Bai reached out, trying to separate the two of them.

Huo Yan narrowed his eyes and had already extended his fist, which was about to land on Mu Bai's right arm.

Su Ruanruan panicked instantly, and her brain stopped working.

She couldn't imagine how badly Mu Bai's arm would be injured by that punch.

She stretched out both hands and hugged his arm tightly, then opened her red lips and bit his hand hard.

Huo Yan frowned as he looked at Su Ruanruan, and tapped his back teeth together.

That fucking hurts!

Did she really think she would use force against that frail little chick?

"Good bite!"

Baiyun scrambled to her feet from the ground, looking rather disheveled.

Looking at Huo Yan, dressed as a constable, this guy had only been in the county office for a short time, but he was already arrogant and unruly. He not only didn't take her seriously, but he also never gave her father a second glance.

He was tall and robust, but not bad-looking at all.

But the scar on her face terrifies children and makes them cry loudly; she has seen it more than once.

When she sees him, she pretends not to see him.

But today, he bullied Brother Mu Bai, which is intolerable.

Bai Yun, her neck stiff, reprimanded sternly, "Don't you know the power of your fist? Brother Mu Bai has small arms and legs. If you punch him, his hand will be ruined. How will he be able to write? How will he participate in the provincial examination? Just you wait, I'll go back and tell my father."

Su Ruanruan gave her a thumbs up, which meant the same thing.

Bai Yun received her signal and her eyes lit up. "Right? You also think what I said makes sense!"

Su Ruanruan nodded meaningfully.

Huo Yan frowned again, his brows furrowing so deeply that a fly could be caught between them.

Mu Bai's face turned deathly pale. He felt utterly useless; what else could his hands do besides wield a pen?

His classmate and friend Fang Ru happened to be passing by while buying paper. Seeing the crowd of onlookers, he had no idea what was going on.

But as they looked, they spotted several familiar figures.

A look of confusion flashed in his eyes, as if he didn't know what had happened.

But I still squeezed through the crowd and went inside.

"Take Mu Bai home quickly and let him get some rest."

Su Ruanruan recognized the man as the scholar who had avoided Mu Bai like the plague at his doorstep that day.

"Soft..."

Su Ruanruan glanced at Huo Yan quickly, knowing that she had offended this big shot again today.

She turned back and smiled at Mu Bai, "Don't worry about me, I'm fine. You should go back now!"

Mu Bai remained motionless for a long time, looking at Su Ruanruan with a complex expression, filled with both worry and heartache.

Bai Yun was incredibly strong. Taking advantage of Mu Bai's dazed state, she hoisted Mu Bai onto her shoulder and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Fang Ru followed closely behind, chasing after them relentlessly.

The shop assistant's face grew increasingly grim as he looked at the broken bowl and the overturned stool.

He finally found this job, and today is only his tenth day here, and this has already happened.

The shopkeeper happened to be out. If we wait for him to return, I don't know how much money we'll deduct from him, or maybe we'll even fire him.

He naturally dared not provoke the man in the constable's uniform, so he could only ask Su Ruanruan, who was sitting dejectedly to the side, for compensation.

"Why me? It was that girl who was damaging things with the whip. Why didn't you stop her when she left!"

She bumped and bruised herself while running around, and her legs still hurt.

"Don't think I don't know. She's the daughter of Lord Bai. How could I dare make her pay? It's your fault for provoking her. Miss Bai and Scholar Mu have both left, so you're the only one left to pay."

Su Ruanruan was on the verge of tears. "So I deserve to be this sucker just because one of them is a young lady and the other is a scholar, and you don't dare offend either of them, so you can only take it out on me? You only pick on the weak?"
