Chapter 69 is so childish

Huo Yan squinted, "What are you looking at? Hurry up and leave!"

Su Ruanruan had no idea what was happening in the darkness behind her. She glanced around and hurried toward the nearest clinic.

It was so late, and the clinic was already closed. Su Ruanruan braced herself and went up to knock on the door.

After a long while, hurried footsteps came from inside, but what followed was a furious shout through the door.

Su Ruanruan could only force a smile. "Shopkeeper, I have a patient with a fever at home. I'd like to get some fever-reducing herbal medicine. Would you be so kind as to do me this?"

"Go away, go away, you're disturbing my peaceful sleep. We'll talk about it when it's light."

"Please, have mercy, I can pay double the amount."

"Even if you pay three times the price, I won't open it. Get out of here!"

Su Ruanruan pressed her lips tightly together, really wanting to pick up a rock and smash down his door; he was completely impervious to reason.

But imagine if he yelled and attracted the night patrol, that would be troublesome.

In the end, they could only leave disappointed.

Go find the next clinic.

Su Ruanruan walked slowly and leisurely, and apart from her, there wasn't a single ghost in sight.

The silence was almost eerie.

She suddenly looked up and saw a dark shadow flash by in front of her.

She quickly lowered her head and gripped the lantern tightly.

No way, no way, it must be my imagination.

This awful weather is terrifying; I'm scared even if I can't see anyone, but I'm even more scared if I see a shadowy figure.

Su Ruanruan kept chanting "Amitabha".

But the next moment, she clearly felt a hand on her shoulder.

Su Ruanruan felt that the temperature around her had dropped a few degrees.

His body froze on the spot, and cold sweat broke out on his back.

The ground beneath my feet felt as heavy as if it were filled with lead.

The leaves rustled in the wind, which seemed to carry a howling sound.

Ah... this is truly a "ghostly" sight.

Su Ruanruan held a lantern in one hand, while the other hand quietly reached into her sleeve.

She was afraid of such dark nights, and even more afraid of such people who pretended to be ghosts.

Real ghosts aren't scary; it's people who pretend to be ghosts who are truly terrifying.

She stared blankly ahead, when another ethereal white shadow flashed by.

Behind her, the "ghost claw" was still resting on her shoulder.

That plaintive, ethereal voice echoed once again in the darkness.

Su Ruanruan kept her eyes tightly closed.

All I could think about were the images of being bullied in my previous life.

She's already died once, what else is there to be afraid of!

When she opened her eyes again, a ruthless glint flashed in Su Ruanruan's eyes.

He twisted his feet, turned around quickly, and stabbed the dagger in his hand fiercely at the "ghostly figure" behind him.

Huo Yan never expected that the delicate and soft-bodied woman in front of him would show no panic or fear in her eyes.

He was stunned when he saw the fierce look in her eyes.

He had never seen such an expression in a woman's eyes before, which reminded him of the same woman who had remained calm and composed in front of a cold corpse.

It was because of this momentary lapse in concentration that a cut was made on my arm.

Although this injury was nothing to him, he didn't expect Su Ruanruan to hit him so hard.

She really put in her full effort.

Jin Yu and Niu Mang saw this scene from a distance and ran over.

He looked at Su Ruanruan in disbelief.

Jin Yu tore strips of cloth from his clothes to bandage Huo Yan's wound.

Niu Mang looked at Su Ruanruan and said, "You little brat, aren't you too ruthless?"

Su Ruanruan lowered her hands, and blood still rolled from the tip of the dagger in her hand.

She looked at Huo Yan, who was staring at her with a cold gaze, and said, word by word, "I didn't expect it to be you. Playing tricks on me, is that fun?"

“You are constables of the county government, receiving salaries from the imperial court, yet you do not investigate cases and catch thieves, but instead make fun of an ordinary citizen like me. It is utterly despicable.”

“What happened today is not my fault; I was just protecting myself. If you accuse me of assault, I will confront you in court at dawn, but I don’t have time to argue with you right now.”

Su Ruanruan looked at the dagger in her hand, then at Huo Yan's bleeding arm.

"I don't want your things anymore, here you go!"

She picked up the dagger and wiped it on his sleeve, returning the bloodstains to him.

Only then did he put the dagger away.

She carried the lantern and hurried away.

He didn't forget to turn back and mock the three of them, "Childish!"

Jin Yu and Niu Mang were dumbfounded by her actions.

My goodness, this is the first time they've ever seen someone like this... Hmm, how should I describe it? A woman unlike any other.

Huo Yan was also angered by Su Ruanruan's actions, and gritted his teeth, saying, "Su Ruanruan!"

Su Ruanruan didn't turn her head, and her steps quickened.

Huo Yan is a perfectly normal person, but I never expected him to play tricks and scare a young woman like her.

This big, burly man is so childish.

Even kindergarten kids aren't as speechless as him.

Oh dear, she actually cut his arm.

I wonder if he'll come after me.

It's safer to stay away from him.

She visited three more clinics, but none of them were open, so she had to try another one.

Su Ruanruan stood at the door, making a final struggle.

Her tone softened considerably. "Doctor, there's a patient with a fever in my house. Please, be kind and open the door!"

Su Ruanruan peered through the crack in the door, but there was no light coming from inside the shop.

After a long while, an angry voice rang out, "Hey, can't you let a person get some sleep?!"

Su Ruanruan pursed her lips, just about to offer another apologetic smile.

But a tall figure appeared beside him.

Su Ruanruan looked up and, with the help of the lantern in her hand, finally saw his face clearly.

"..." He's like a persistent ghost.

But he didn't look at her.

A fist the size of a sandbag slammed hard against the door.

Inside, the man thought it was the woman who had been banging on the door earlier, and cursed twice more.

Slipping on his shoes, he was furious.

Inside the house, oil lamps were also lit.

A moment later, the door was opened from the inside, and the shopkeeper was about to get angry when he saw Su Ruanruan.

But then she saw Huo Yan appear out from behind her.

His expression changed drastically in an instant, and his brain worked at lightning speed.

It seems like the shop hasn't been doing anything unethical lately.

Why did the county constable have to be summoned at this hour?

The shopkeeper's mood changed faster than turning the pages of a book; his wrinkled face was now plastered with a smile.

"Officer Huo, what brings you here? Our shop has been very well-behaved lately, and we haven't been raising medicine prices."

Huo Yan lowered his eyes, his expression unreadable.

But she didn't respond to him; instead, she simply raised her injured arm.

He said coldly, "Bandage the wound."

The shopkeeper then noticed that his arm was wrapped in white cloth, and traces of blood could be faintly seen seeping out.

He was quite puzzled, wondering: Why was Officer Huo injured in the middle of the night?

He quickly invited Huo Yan inside and went back to get his medicine box.

Su Ruanruan also squeezed in.

The shopkeeper, displeased, pointed to the door and said, "Get out."
