Su Ruanruan turned and left, refusing to look at Xiaoyu's aggrieved expression.
She went to the tofu shop and stayed there for a while before leaving, wearing the veil she had prepared.
After wandering around several streets, I turned around and entered a bookstore. Upon seeing the visitor, the shop assistant came to greet me.
"Submit the manuscript."
With just two simple words, the waiter didn't ask any more questions.
The shopkeeper led Su Ruanruan to the back room, and upon seeing her, a long-lost smile appeared on his face.
"Girl, you've finally arrived. I thought you'd be a few days later."
Although he didn't know what kind of face was under the veil, he knew that she was his lucky charm.
Her sketchbooks and art books were incredibly popular.
The pay was quite good, though.
The shopkeeper smiled broadly, "Miss, to be honest, we're just a small business. Don't be fooled by the crowds here; we don't actually make much money. Could we perhaps lower the price we agreed on earlier..."
Before he could finish speaking, Su Ruanruan interrupted him, "Shopkeeper, do you think I'm easy to fool because I'm simply dressed and young?"
Su Ruanruan stood up and looked around the back room. "In the northwest frontier, this small county town is surprisingly spacious. I won't go into the details of the front, but with such a grand back room, you're telling me it's not profitable?"
Su Ruanruan tapped her fingers lightly on the table, "Golden Phoebe wood."
She then pointed to the chairs, "Rosewood."
He then turned to look at the display shelf behind him, "Red sandalwood."
The shopkeeper was taken aback; this woman, dressed in coarse cloth, seemed quite knowledgeable.
Su Ruanruan continued, "Since I've come to your store, I naturally know your strength, and I also know that these storybooks aren't only sold at this one branch."
"They must have already reached the capital! You know perfectly well how much profit you've made. If you're just playing the victim in front of me, it means you don't want to work with me anymore."
Su Ruanruan reached for the drawing, but the shopkeeper beat her to it, saying, "Misunderstanding, misunderstanding. Our shop is very sincere in wanting to cooperate with you long-term."
After saying that, he quickly took out a hundred-tael silver note and handed it to Su Ruanruan, "This is the reward. Please don't be angry about what happened today, it was my fault. Please don't ruin our harmony."
Su Ruanruan looked at the twenty taels more than before and curled her lips. "Harmony brings wealth, I understand."
She pulled out another manuscript from her pocket. "I have all kinds of styles here, sweet romance, angst, and so on. Considering our long-term cooperation, I'll give you this manuscript for free."
"I'm off now, see you later!"
The shopkeeper escorted Su Ruanruan out of the back room before opening the manuscript.
"Brother Huo...you're not good enough."
Su Ruanruan tossed the silver notes into her spatial storage, feeling great.
No sooner had I stepped out of the bookstore than I heard Mu Bai's voice in my ear.
"Ruan Ruan?"
Su Ruanruan turned around and saw Mu Bai holding a small package in his hand, looking at her curiously.
Su Ruanruan lifted the veil of her hat and blinked. "How did you know it was me when I was wearing a veil?"
Mu Bai seemed to remember something, his cheeks turning from white to red, and then, as if remembering something else, his ears also turned red.
He and Ruan Ruan were almost inseparable; he knew her scent all too well.
Moreover, she had a faint, pleasant fragrance about her, so she couldn't possibly be mistaken.
Mu Bai laughed, "Silly girl, how could I not recognize you?"
"Didn't I tell you to stay home and rest? Why did you come out?"
He then looked at the veil on Su Ruanruan's head, probably because she was afraid that passersby would recognize her and point fingers.
Su Ruanruan knew that Mu Bai felt sorry for her again, but she wore the veil not because of passersby, but because she was afraid that the people in the bookstore would recognize her, but she couldn't say that.
"Hmm... I'm too bored at home, so I want to go out for a walk, but I'm afraid people will recognize me."
Mu Bai felt a sharp pain in his heart. It was clearly not Ruan Ruan's fault, so why did everyone have to hurt her?
"What brings Brother Mu Bai here?"
Mu Bai clutched the package in his hands even tighter, afraid that Su Ruanruan would find out that he would take on this kind of job.
"I copied the book before, and... I finished."
Afraid that Su Ruanruan would ask something else, he quickly said, "Ruanruan, wait for me here, I'll be right back."
When Mu Bai came out with half a tael of silver, he saw that Su Ruanruan's veil was gone, and she was standing in front of a dough figurine stall in the distance.
Her eyes sparkled as she intently watched the old man busily working.
Mu Bai strode over and took Su Ruanruan's hand, "Why did you take off your veil?"
Su Ruanruan lowered her head, looking at their tightly clasped hands. "So many people are watching, how dare you hold my hand? Aren't you afraid people will gossip about you?"
Mu Bai's eyes were filled with tenderness. "I'm not afraid. I just ask that if they talk about me, they stop talking about you."
Su Ruanruan scratched his palm and smiled, "With Brother Mubai here, I'm not afraid."
Under the sunlight, the two stood facing each other, looking like a perfect couple.
Huo Yan glanced at it unintentionally and stared at it for a while, but found the sunlight particularly dazzling today.
He looked up, then turned and went into the bookstore.
After an incense stick had burned, Huo Yan walked out with a dark face.
All I can say is that a toad wearing a frog's skin is dressed in a simple way but plays a very fancy game.
If he finds out who wrote the sketchbook that alludes to him, he's doomed. It's full of pictures and text, and the man's surname is Huo. He's also tall and imposing, with a scar between his eyebrows.
"A Few Things About the Constable and the Widow," "The Hunter's Unexpected Journey into the Mountains...", and now we have another book: "Brother Huo, You Can't Do It!"
They were late again. The shopkeeper didn't recognize the person, only saying that she was a girl wearing a veiled hat and spoke with a foreign accent.
He really wanted to see who this reckless woman was.
