Chapter 155 Sharing a Bed

Huo Yan tossed the medicine packet into the waiter's arms. "Go and brew the medicine. Bring us some light meals later."

"Yes, yes," the waiter nodded hurriedly.

He watched Su Ruanruan and Huo Yan go upstairs, and when they were out of sight, he quickly wiped the sweat from his forehead.

The man was incredibly imposing, with icy eyes that only revealed tenderness when he looked at the woman beside him.

I don't know what their relationship is.

Fifteen minutes later, the waiter brought over two light side dishes, two bowls of rice, and a bowl of soup.

Huo Yan woke Su Ruanruan up. She really didn't have much of an appetite, but she still ate a little.

When the waiter was clearing away the bowls, he brought over the decocted bitter medicine.

Su Ruanruan frowned as she finished drinking it; it was very bitter, just like her mood at that moment.

But no one coaxed her to take her medicine with candied fruit or preserves anymore.

Su Ruanruan stood by the window, looking at the moon in the sky, and the image of Mu Bai appeared in her mind.

She really missed him.

She reached out to touch Mu Bai's shadow on the moon, but the illusion vanished instantly.

Su Ruanruan touched her heart, which felt like it was being cut by a knife, and wept silently.

Huo Yan looked at Su Ruanruan's trembling back, his feelings were complicated.

He was also the one who was abandoned, but he didn't experience that heart-wrenching pain.

Is it because men and women express their emotions differently?

But why did he feel pity for Su Ruanruan when he saw her so delicate and helpless?

I really wanted to use my rough fingertips to wipe away the tears from her eyes.

Huo Yan stepped forward and closed the window.

"You're still sick, you shouldn't be exposed to drafts or catch a cold. Get some rest."

Su Ruanruan gave a faint "hmm," looked at the bed and then at Huo Yan, and was momentarily at a loss.

The inn is fully booked today. The waiter said that the inn can only spare one quilt at most, but there is absolutely no room for sleeping on the floor.

With only one bed and two blankets, how are we supposed to sleep?

Huo Yan could see her hesitation, so he got up and walked out. "I'm not sleepy. You go to sleep. I'm going out for a walk."

Su Ruanruan didn't stop her. She glanced at a chair in the room, then at the large bed, and slept in the innermost corner.

She had begged Huo Yan to protect her and come out; she really had no reason to let him sit in that narrow chair all night.

She glanced at the rather empty bed beside her, then moved further in, placing a soft pillow next to her as a boundary.

After taking the medicine, Su Ruanruan felt dizzy and soon fell asleep.

Su Ruanruan was startled awake when she heard the pattering sound outside the window.

She rubbed her aching temples. The candlelight was still flickering, but Huo Yan had not returned.

Su Ruanruan dragged her heavy body downstairs, while the waiter was fast asleep in a chair.

Su Ruanruan tapped on the table in front of him several times before waking him up.

"Excuse me, have you seen the man who came with me?"

The waiter yawned. "Has that gentleman gone out yet?"

Su Ruanruan didn't know where Huo Yan had gone, so she borrowed an umbrella and a lantern from the waiter.

The sky was pitch black; the weather was so unpredictable. The moon had long since disappeared.

The rain was whipped aside by the wind, and the damp, icy wind blew straight into my body.

The lanterns swayed in the wind, and Su Ruanruan stared blankly at the dark night, with only the sound of the wind and rain in her ears.

There was an endless chill and desolation; no one knew where Huo Yan had gone.

She took a few steps forward, her body feeling somewhat chilly, when a slightly cold voice sounded behind her.

"Why did you come out? This is ridiculous!"

Su Ruanruan turned around and looked at him; the soft light of the lantern shone on him.

His brows were slightly furrowed, and his lips were pressed into a straight line.

"Are you stupid? You didn't even come back on a rainy day, and you made me come out to look for you."

"Come back soon," Su Ruanruan said, glancing at him with displeasure.

Huo Yan was leaning against the tree when he saw Su Ruanruan come out, so he quickly jumped down.

This drizzle was nothing to him; it wasn't like he hadn't been soaked in the rain all night before.

But seeing Su Ruanruan's displeased expression, he inexplicably followed her into the inn.

When he came in, Su Ruanruan was already wrapped up like a silkworm cocoon and lying on the bed.

Next to her was a soft pillow, but there was a large empty space left for him on the other side.

Does this mean he's allowed to sleep in the bed?

He took off his soaking wet coat and stood by the bed for a while.

There was indeed no place to sleep in this room. He usually had difficulty falling asleep, but for some reason, he was actually feeling a little sleepy right now.

However, it is already inappropriate for a man and a woman to be alone in a room, and it would be even more inappropriate for him to go to bed with her.

Moreover, he had never shared a bed with anyone else.

Su Ruanruan's muffled voice came from behind, "Go to sleep quickly, we have to travel early tomorrow."

Huo Yan swallowed hard and lay down on the edge of the bed.

He touched his slightly erratic heartbeat, feeling a strange, indescribable sensation.

As for what it was, he didn't know.

He glanced at Su Ruanruan, who was a distance away from him and wrapped up like a rice dumpling, only able to see the back of her head.

I could hear her soft, even breathing.

Huo Yan simply turned over and lay on his side, following Su Ruanruan's direction, staring at the back of her head for a while.

He was surprised to find that his eyelids were getting heavier and heavier...

Outside the window, the rain drizzled all night, and it didn't clear up completely until 9 a.m. the next day.

Su Ruanruan was already urging Huo Yan to set off.

The road was muddy and difficult to walk on. In just a short while, Lie Feng, whose fur was glossy and shiny, was covered in mud.
