Su Ruanruan crossed her arms and smiled gently, "Ah, you're absolutely right."
"The paper scraps I sent out were all specially treated, and they really did look real."
Some people looked at the paper in their hands and saw nothing but some barely visible water stains. Where did the nose, eyes and mouth come from?
This immediately confirmed Zhang San's suspicions: the braised meat shop was cheating. Don't be fooled by the coins on the table; they were probably just for show, and the shop owner simply didn't want to give them any.
The group of laborers also looked at the paper in their hands. They didn't know what was going on, but because of the extra rice and vegetables the shop had given them, they couldn't afford to cause trouble with those people.
He immediately stood in front to prevent the group from getting agitated and harming the people in the store.
Su Ruanruan naturally noticed their actions and couldn't help but take a second look. These people were used to doing rough and heavy work, and although the weather was cold, they weren't dressed very thickly, yet their muscles were still clearly visible.
Upstairs across the street, Huo Yan pursed his lips, as if trying to see right through Su Ruanruan.
Yet he also felt a bit aggrieved; he had what they had, and he was even stronger than them.
But why was he kicked out and relegated to the sidelines?
Su Ruanruan felt a burning gaze fixed on her, and her gaze shifted slightly to meet Huo Yan's in mid-air.
Seeing him stand up, looking like he was going to stand up for her, Su Ruanruan quickly waved her hand, telling him not to come.
Huo Yan sat down, only to see the other three snickering. He was about to scold them when they quickly changed the subject.
Niu Mang held a piece of paper in his hand, the very one he had received on the day of the business opening.
While other people's papers might be fake, his was the real deal, received directly from Su Ruanruan.
Wei Zheng smelled it and found no odor. Upon closer inspection, he noticed a trace on the paper, indicating that it had been accidentally wetted and then dried.
However, Su Ruanruan's description of one nose and two eyes did not come to mind.
"What kind of lawsuit is Su Ruanruan putting on? I don't understand."
The group shook their heads and looked at Huo Yan.
Huo Yan glanced at them, then lowered his eyes to think about his own affairs.
He touched the marks around his eyebrows and eyes; although they had faded somewhat, they still affected his appearance.
Su Ruanruan liked Mu Xiucai's face so much, but he could never become such a refined and elegant person.
I used to think that a few scars on a man were nothing, but now it's different; his woman is so delicate and beautiful...
Meanwhile, Su Ruanruan asked the waiter to find several hot water bottles.
She reiterated, "Every piece of paper that our shop distributes can transform into a picture. If the piece of paper you receive doesn't have a picture, our shop will not honor it."
“If you continue to cause trouble, I will take it to the yamen, and I am sure Lord Bai will be able to give me justice.”
Another uproar ensued. Some people, feeling guilty, simply echoed the troublemakers, not believing Su Ruanruan's nonsense about conjuring up patterns.
Su Ruanruan pointed at Zhang San and said, "You go first."
Zhang San objected, "You're talking nonsense! How can this paper conjure up patterns?"
"If you don't want to honor your promise, just say so! How can you try to fool us all with this charade?!"
Su Ruanruan's gaze swept over everyone. "That's really strange. I've already said that anything from our store will absolutely not have any problems."
"But why don't you dare to let me inspect them?"
Nobody wants to be the first to try something new. Every penny counts, and besides, they have more than just a piece of paper in their hands.
The situation reached a stalemate, and no one dared to step forward.
"I'll do it." A laborer stepped out from the crowd, holding three pieces of paper, and gave them all to Su Ruanruan.
"for you."
Su Ruanruan asked, "Aren't you afraid I'm bluffing? What if none of the three cards can be detected?"
"What's there to be afraid of? I never intended to use it to exchange for copper coins. It doesn't matter whether it's detected or not."
“Your food is very cheap here. It has meat, vegetables, and brown rice, but it costs the same as a few steamed buns. We brothers all love to eat here.”
“It’s not easy for us laborers to earn money. Before, we could only afford to eat a few steamed buns. Now we can eat our fill, eat well, and eat cheaply. We are very grateful.”
"Don't you all agree?"
"Ah, yes, yes, yes," the group replied in unison.
Seeing their cheerful smiles, Su Ruanruan couldn't help but smile too.
Before she knew it, Huo Yan was already standing behind her, pinching her waist and pulling her a little closer to his arms.
The surrounding chatter subsided somewhat; everyone was a little intimidated by this imposing head constable.
Su Ruanruan gave him a warning look, "Then let's begin."
Su Ruanruan looked at Ziwu, and she immediately understood.
Place the papers on the hot water bottle. The heat from the hot water bottle spread, and in just a moment, a pattern appeared on the paper. Upon closer inspection, it really did resemble eyes, a nose, and a mouth.
Everyone found it unbelievable; what was going on?
Even Huo Yan and the other three people upstairs were astonished.
Huo Yan's eyes lit up. If this method were used to transmit secret messages, he would no longer have to worry about important information being spied on by spies.
Su Ruanruan always brings him unexpected surprises.
He couldn't wait to ask her for advice, so he ignored everyone else, picked up Su Ruanruan, and headed home.
Startled by the sudden turn of events, Su Ruanruan quickly called out to Zi Wu, who was also dumbfounded, "I'm leaving this to you."
Huo Yan had just brought Su Ruanruan back to his courtyard when she bit him hard on the shoulder.
"Huo Yan, put me down."
Huo Yan pinned him against the wall, a hint of jealousy in his voice. "From now on, you're not allowed to smile like that at other men."
Su Ruanruan, "..."
Just as she was about to say something to him, three heads popped up from the top of the wall next door, grinning at them.
Huo Yan, “…”
"Why are you back?"
Niu Mang chuckled, "Then why is Big Brother in such a hurry to come back?"
Huo Yan finally released Su Ruanruan. Su Ruanruan glared at him and turned to leave.
"Don't go, I really have a question to ask you."
Apart from Huo Yan, the other three listened attentively.
"What is the meaning behind the pattern on the braised meat shop today?"
Su Ruanruan smiled gently, "Why would I tell you?"
Huo Yan looked at Wei Zheng on the wall, and the other man immediately shrank back.
But Niu Mang, standing nearby, understood and familiarly touched Wei Zheng's clothes.
Wei Zheng was extremely ticklish, so he immediately pulled his clothes tighter around himself and said helplessly, "I'll give it to you, okay?"
"Why am I always the one who suffers a loss?" he said, reluctantly pulling a silver note from his pocket.
Seeing this, Niu Mang chuckled, took the item, leaped down from the wall, and delivered it to Su Ruanruan.
Su Ruanruan opened it suspiciously, "One thousand taels?"
I almost let out a groundhog squeak; these people were practically my gods of wealth.
