Chapter 27 The Call

Chapter 27 The Call

The next day.

Yan Kui got up very early and smelled an irresistible aroma coming from next door.

Looking at the instant noodles in my hand, I felt a bit nauseous from eating too much.

As I walked into the courtyard, I repeatedly tried to mentally prepare myself.

"Be a little more shameless, even more shameless, and then you can enjoy a delicious meal..."

"I'll only eat here once, really. I won't stay here after the banquet is over."

"Yan Kui! Don't be a coward!"

Yan Kui put the instant noodles down, then moved closer to the corner of the wall, and in a fit of desperation, shouted:

"Brother Yin! Could you invite your neighbor over for breakfast...? I can pay for it."

Wei Yin paused in his eating, looked at the noodles that had just been cooked in the kitchen, and sighed.

"We're out of noodles. Maybe next time."

His tone was calm, but there was a hint of laughter at the end.

Wei Yin was telling the truth. After finishing his noodles today, he was planning to go to town to buy some more, but he didn't expect the woman next door to bring it up again.

They're neighbors, having a meal together is no big deal. Wei Yin teased her yesterday, so she's already vented her anger.

But to Yan Kui, these words were a direct rejection, and she was a little angry. Yesterday she refused to share a meal with him, and today she's making excuses again.

"How stingy! They won't even let me have a bite of food when they offer me money."

I can't help but think of what Huang Maomao said, "The most handsome man in the universe, pshaw."

Yan Kui resignedly poured boiling water into the instant noodles and went back to her room to eat them in small bites.

Wei Yin was going to water the land he had planted the day before, carrying a large bucket of water.

As I passed by Yan Kui's house, I remembered her pitiful tone this morning. She probably couldn't stand eating frozen food anymore, so I called out to her, "I'll cook dinner tonight and treat you to some."

Upon hearing this voice, Yan Kui immediately perked up.

Swallowing the instant noodles in her mouth, she opened the door and went out, only to see Wei Yin's back.

Yan Kui looked at the figure in front of her wearing a black vest and trousers. The figure was tall and slender with a straight back. The muscles in the arm carrying the bucket of water were bulging, making it seem as if she were carrying a rabbit with ease. Even the way she walked exuded alluring hormones.

Yan Kui began to understand why Huang Maomao's sister liked this person.

Even just from his back view, you can tell he's not bad.

However, as Yan Kui looked at it, she felt like she had seen it somewhere before...

Yan Kui reached out and brushed her hand in front of her face, interrupting her thoughts. She remembered the man's words about inviting her to dinner that night, and she felt extremely happy.

After finishing the remaining instant noodles in a few bites, I lay down on the sofa to rest for a while, picked up the note the village chief had given me yesterday, and headed towards the village entrance.

Today, Yan Kui wore a light pink cotton embroidered V-neck suit dress. Her black hair was tied high behind her head, and her porcelain-white skin had a faint pink tint. When her eyelashes were lowered, she looked innocent, but when she looked directly at people, the upward curve of her eyes at the corners made her look particularly alluring.

Standing at the entrance of the only telephone shop in the village, Yan Kui carefully dialed the number written on a piece of paper.

"Beep—beep—"

After ringing several times, the call was answered.

"Who should I look for?"

A slightly immature voice reached Yan Kui's ears. Although she wasn't nervous at all at first, a strange feeling arose in her heart after hearing the voice on the other end of the phone.

"Is that your older sister?"

Yan Kui paused for two seconds, then said, "Is this Yan Sheng? I am Yan Kui."

"It's me, Yan Sheng. The village chief said yesterday that you would call me, so I secretly brought my phone with me today."

Where are you? Don't you usually carry your phone with you?

"Yes, I'm in Yuan City. There's an air conditioner parts factory here, and they usually don't allow cell phones here."

The boy seemed quite happy, but Yan Kui felt a pang of unease.

But he said, "How can you be sure I'm your sister?"

“The village chief told me yesterday that you look a lot like your mother. He also told me when your parents were still alive that they accidentally lost you when you were born. They believed that you must still be alive and told me that maybe one day we would meet again.”

Yan Kui's nose tingled with tears. Not wanting to stand at the village entrance and be stared at, she asked, "When are you coming back?"

Yan Sheng said with some difficulty, "The factory only pays wages after two full months of work..."

Just as Yan Kui was about to say it was alright, that she could come back to see him in two months, she heard Yan Sheng say:

"Sister, the house is unattended. If you're free, could you wait for me at home? I'll come back as soon as possible..."

"Your parents' photos are in a black box in the storage room. You can take a look when you have time."

"Sister, is it okay?"

Yan Sheng's tone was humble yet pleading. Even though Yan Kui had never met him before, a shy and stubborn face suddenly flashed into her mind.

Yan Kui didn't understand why, but she actually agreed: "Okay."

Suddenly, a rough male voice came from Yan Sheng's side.

"You little rascal, sneaking in a phone like that, you'll get your wages docked."

Yan Sheng was getting a little anxious and quickly said to Yan Kui, "Sister, I'll hang up now. Call me again after nine o'clock next time."

The phone immediately went dead, the call being disconnected.
