Chapter 33 Gastroenteritis

Chapter 33 Gastroenteritis

Yan Kui struggled to sit up to pour herself a cup of hot water, but as soon as she stood up, a sharp, agonizing pain struck her. She staggered, grabbing the wall to keep from falling, and cold sweat instantly soaked through the fabric of her clothes.

Yan Kui remembered that there seemed to be medicine in the small cabinet next to the sofa.

Clutching her stomach, Yan Kui slowly moved across the sofa, cold sweat pouring down her forehead. With great difficulty, she opened the cabinet and grabbed the medicine haphazardly with her hands.

Upon closer inspection.

Licorice tablets, cold medicine, headache powder.

That's all.

Yan Kui was driven crazy by this and grabbed another handful from the cabinet.

She brought out a small green box.

Yan Kui grabbed it forcefully and saw the words "Enteritis Relief". With trembling hands, she tried to open the box. After a lot of effort, she found that there were only three tablets left inside.

Unable to care anymore, Yan Kui stood up in one go, picked up the glass on the table with only half a glass of water left, and swallowed it all in one gulp, mixing it with the medicine.

After taking her medicine, Yan Kui curled up on the sofa, constantly trying to comfort herself.

"It doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt..."

Perhaps as the medicine took effect, Yan Kui slowly drifted off to sleep.

The nights in Luoxia Village in September were very cold. Yan Kui didn't have a blanket, so she could only hug herself tighter and tighter.

In her hazy dreams, Yan Kui saw that man again.

…………

On the pure white bed, Wei Yin looked at the woman beneath him who was trembling slightly, her face flushed an unusual red. Wei Yin reached out and touched her forehead.

It's so hot.

The woman beneath him had her eyes tightly shut, muttering softly, "So cold...so painful..."

This was the first time Wei Yin had heard her speak in his dream.

Even her voice was exactly the same as Yan Kui's next door.

Wei Yin wondered if he was going crazy, or if Yan Kui was really some kind of enchantress.

Wei Yin wanted to ask her what was wrong, but he still couldn't say anything.

A rooster's crow broke the tranquility of Luoxia Village. Wei Yin opened his eyes and raised his hand to block out the light shining in from outside.

This was the first time I dreamed of her, but we didn't do *that*...

Wei Yin got up and went to the bathroom to wash up.

Not long after, Huang Maomao came over with two plates of fresh meat pies and said, "Brother Yin, my mom made these. You take one and Yan Kui takes one. I think she hasn't woken up yet. Could you give them to her for me later?"

"My younger sister is going back to school today, and I'm going to take her there."

Wei Yin looked at the meat pie on the table, put on a light jacket, and said, "Okay, please thank Aunt Song for me."

"Don't mention it, Brother Yin, it's just a few pancakes."

Wei Yin picked up a golden, crispy biscuit and said, "Thank you, you motherfucker, not you."

Huang Maomao was used to Wei Yin's sharp tongue: "okok, then I'll go see them off first."

After saying that, he ran away in a flash.

After Wei Yin finished eating his two pancakes, he tested the temperature of the remaining two pancakes and found that they seemed to be getting cold.

He picked up the plate and walked to the gate of Yan Kui's courtyard, calling out, "Come out and get the cakes."

No one responded.

The voice grew a little louder: "Yan Kui."

Still no response.

Wei Yin frowned. Usually at this time, the neighbors would have already gotten up and started cooking.

The dream I had last night flashed through my mind.

Is he sick?

Immediately, Wei Yin scoffed at himself, "You really thought it was the same person?"

They called out twice more, but still no one came out.

Wei Yin suddenly had a strong premonition.

She and she might really be the same person.

Wei Yin pulled open the broken lock on the Yan family's door and walked into the house.

He knocked on the door: "Yan Kui, are you there?"

In her dazed state, Yan Kui seemed to hear someone calling her, but she was so cold, her whole body was stiff, and she couldn't move at all.

"It's so cold..."

"Help me..."

The old house wasn't very soundproof, and Wei Yin was so close that he thought he heard Yan Kui's cries for help.

Wei Yin's face immediately darkened, and he walked to the window.

In rural areas, windows are usually secured with simple locks, and some households don't even have interlocking mechanisms; they simply close the window when it's closed.

Wei Yin placed his large hand in the center of the window and pulled hard, opening the window instantly.

As soon as Wei Yin drew back the curtains, he saw Yan Kui curled up on the sofa.

It's exactly the same as in my dream.
