Chapter 52 Sit Down
Yan Kui picked up her phone, which was fully charged but still had no signal, and turned on the screen.
"It's only seven o'clock..."
Yan Kui lay in bed again, sometimes with her eyes closed, sometimes tossing and turning, making the bed frame creak and groan.
Yan Kui sat up angrily: "You lousy bed! I'll replace you sooner or later!"
I changed my clothes, sat down in the kitchen, and took breakfast out of the refrigerator. Today I'm having frozen glutinous rice balls.
I dawdled inside all morning, and before I knew it, it was already 10:20. Then the village chief's voice rang out from outside: "Hurry up and get to the village committee!"
Yan Kui opened the window to let in some fresh air, then closed the door and headed towards the village committee.
Yan Kui looked around the village committee courtyard and saw that every household had brought a chair. She had nothing in her hands. Where would she sit later?
Yan Kui stood at the entrance of the village committee, her long, black hair cascading over her shoulders like silk, making her skin appear as white as jade.
Sunlight slanted through the gaps in the leaves and fell on her, as if she were enveloped in a hazy halo.
A gentle breeze stirred her hair, and as Yan Kui tucked it behind her ear, a faint scent of lily of the valley wafted from her wrist, making even the air seem more serene.
An elderly woman with gray hair and a kind smile walked over to Yan Kui: "Which family's young lady are you? I've never seen you in the village before. You're so beautiful!"
Yan Kui smiled and was about to answer when she heard the person behind her speak first: "This is the Yan family's new daughter!"
Yan Kui turned her head and saw that it was Old Lady Li who had come to extort money from her last time.
He smiled and said, "Long time no see, Grandma Li! You look great!"
Grandma Li glared at Yan Kui with annoyance: "Move aside, move aside, you're blocking my way from putting down the chair."
Yan Kui didn't mind and moved aside with a smile.
The kind-looking old lady spoke again: "The Yan family! Now that you mention it, she really does look a bit like Meng Baozhu when she was young, haha!"
"Such a pretty young lady? Don't you have a boyfriend? My grandson will be coming back for Chinese New Year, I'll introduce you to him then..."
Before she could finish speaking, Old Mrs. Li said anxiously, "Hey, Old Mrs. Lu, didn't we agree to introduce your grandson to my grandniece?!"
Then he looked at Yan Kui and asked, "What's wrong? You think you can cut in line just because you're pretty?"
Yan Kui couldn't help but laugh: "What? I may be pretty, but I didn't say anything. You two families should handle your own affairs. Don't drag me into this, old ladies."
Grandma Lu's smile deepened: "I think this girl is pretty and has a good personality, so I'll ask her first."
Yan Kui opened her mouth to say something again, when she suddenly heard a somewhat familiar, fierce voice coming from not far away.
"Yan Kui, come sit here."
Yan Kui didn't even need to turn her head to look at them. She looked at the two old ladies and said with a smile, "You two should discuss it first. Don't blame me if the blind date doesn't work out. I'll be angry!"
After saying that, he even raised an eyebrow at Old Lady Li, then turned and walked towards Wei Yin.
Seeing that Wei Yin's expression wasn't too good, but there seemed to be a stool left for her, she simply plopped down on it.
Behind her, Old Lady Li pointed at Wei Yin and Yan Kui's backs and took the opportunity to say to Old Lady Lu, "See? She and that strong young man have been together for a long time. We agreed that my grandniece and your grandson are a perfect match!"
Grandma Lu looked over and saw that the two were indeed very close together. She sighed and said, "Alright, alright, we'll talk about it when my grandson comes back for the New Year."
Yan Kui sat on the stool to Wei Yin's right, but her gaze did not fall on him, and Wei Yin was not in a hurry to speak.
When four firefighters came in, halfway through the speech, he suddenly said to the crowd, "Next, we'd like to invite two people up to simulate a rescue of the injured."
But when the firefighters looked down, it seemed that the only young people who were able to move around were the three sitting under the tree.
Huang Maomao immediately noticed the firefighters' gaze, quickly dragged his stool back a bit, pointed at Wei Yin and Yan Kui with both fingers, and desperately mouthed to the firefighters, "The two of them! The two of them!"
