Chapter 56 After the Rain
The next day.
Huang Maomao stood in Wei Yin's living room, drinking water and then putting a biscuit in his mouth, savoring it carefully.
I saw Yan Kui yawning as she walked out of the small bedroom.
He was so startled that he didn't even notice when he dropped the cookie on the ground.
Yan Kui saw Huang Maomao standing there motionless and greeted him wearily, "Good morning, Maomao."
Thinking about how heavy the rain was last night, I wondered if her bed would have been ruined by the water.
Yan Kui wanted to go home and push open the door, but it felt like stepping into a world that had just been unsealed.
The sunlight poured down as if it were free, washing every leaf until it shone.
The air was filled with the fresh scent of sun-warmed earth, mixed with a hint of the sweet, grassy smell of plants.
The puddles on the cement ground shimmered, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds, while sparrows hopped and shattered this small patch of sky.
Yan Kui walked into the yard, and water droplets from the clothesline pattered onto the back of her neck, making her shiver.
"Holy crap, is this still the same world that was raining so hard yesterday?"
Yan Kui walked into her yard, pushed open the door, and thankfully the water inside had receded.
Looking into the room, good heavens, one corner of the bed's support had broken off. How could anyone sleep like this?
I quickly opened the closet where she kept her clothes and breathed a sigh of relief. Luckily, the closet was quite waterproof.
Yan Kui took a broom from the yard and went into the house to start cleaning.
Huang Maomao was still in shock at discovering that Yan Kui had stayed at Yin Ge's house the night before.
When Wei Yin came out of the kitchen, he found that Yan Kui's room door was open, but when he looked inside, she was gone.
Then he saw the blond-haired boy standing there blankly and said, "Snap out of it."
Huang Mao Mao shook his head and boldly spoke up: "Brother Yin... you and Yan Kui are moving way too fast..."
"You two yesterday..."
Yellow Hair twitched his eyebrows: "That... thing?"
Wei Yin was speechless. He picked up a plastic bowl and threw it at Huang Maomao: "You're overthinking it."
Yan Kui, who happened to be borrowing a rag, heard Wei Yin speak and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Seeing that Wei Yin and Huang Maomao were not saying anything, he didn't care anymore: "I'll borrow the rag from your yard for a bit, and I'll wash it and return it to you later."
After saying that, he ran back in a flash.
Huang Maomao finally breathed a sigh of relief after Yan Kui left: "That scared me to death..."
Yan Kui spent several hours cleaning on and off, then placed the dry blankets on the sofa and spread them out neatly. For the time being, this sofa would be her bed.
That evening, Huang Maomao didn't come over for dinner. Wei Yin and Yan Kui cooked two dishes and sat in the yard to eat. Suddenly, they saw a beautiful middle-aged woman and a beer-bellied man passing by the gate.
The woman muttered to herself, "Your hometown is in a place like this? Let me tell you, even if your house burns down, you're not allowed to bring your mother there, you hear me!"
The man's expression was not good, but he seemed to have no choice but to submit to the woman's authority, and he nodded silently.
Seeing the two leave, Yan Kui sighed, "Ah, it's quite pitiful when people get old."
"When I get old, I'll have lots of money, and nobody will be able to make me suffer."
Then I thought, "What if I really end up sleeping naked and having a baby with a rotten, smelly, pot-bellied man? Then I..."
Before he could finish speaking, Wei tapped his head with his finger: "Yan Kui."
Yan Kui looked up and saw that Wei Yin's expression was extremely serious.
"ah?"
"Don't use vulgar language."
