Chapter 3 Have you ever regretted it?
"The mess the Gu family is in now is not worthy of our Fu family."
"Besides, if my mother knew you were his daughter, it would be even more impossible for you to do that."
Gu Xiangsi stared at the check on the table, her nails digging deep into her palms.
Indeed, she doesn't deserve it.
A shrill horn sounded and Gu Xiangsi looked up.
A black car stopped in front of the platform, the window was rolled down, and the man smiled frivolously.
"Manager Gu, can I give you a ride?"
His eyes were glued to her wet shirt, and the corners of his mouth curled up with malicious intent.
The rain gradually subsided. She clutched her shoulder bag and shook her head: "No, thank you, Mr. Zhao, my home is very close."
He tapped randomly on the black screen of his phone, pretending to be on the phone.
Zhao Niesen sneered, the car window rolled up heavily, the wheels rolled over the potholes, and the dirty water splashed all over his head.
She didn't hide, but just slightly turned sideways, letting the mud splash on her trouser legs.
She looked down at her trouser legs that were splattered with mud, then suddenly squatted down and gently brushed her fingers across the surface of her shoes.
This pair of high heels was one of the few old things she was reluctant to throw away. The heels were worn a little crooked and the patent leather on the toe had cracks, but the leather was still soft.
She took off her shoes and stepped barefoot on the wet and cold ground. The mud and water flooded over her insteps, making her feel freezing cold.
But she didn't frown, she just held her shoes and walked forward step by step.
This kind of embarrassment is not the first time anyway.
She can bow her head, but she will never crawl.
A Cullinan was driving slowly on the road. The man lowered the window and fixed his eyes on the woman in front of him.
She was thin and walked barefoot stubbornly, her white legs casting tiny shadows on the road.
Gu Xiangsi looked at the interface of his mobile phone. There was not a single car answering the call on the street late at night, and the last bus had already stopped running.
She smiled bitterly, forcing herself into this situation again.
Suddenly she heard a sound behind her and turned around.
The drunken man approached: "Beautiful girl, why are you alone so late?"
The blood in her body seemed to freeze instantly, her nails dug deep into her palms, no sound came out of her throat, only fear and hatred exploding in her eyes.
When his feet regained control, he stumbled and fell, leaving bloody marks on his palms.
The man snatched the bag and cursed, "You're dressed nicely, but you don't have any money in your bag?"
His eyes suddenly fell on the chain around her neck and he roughly broke it.
“Give it back to me!”
Gu Xiangsi rushed over and was pushed hard into the corner of the dead end.
The man approached with the smell of alcohol, and she curled up and kicked at him, but her ankle was clamped.
"Give it back to me." Her voice was filled with anger.
"Let your brother take good care of you, maybe..."
When he pounced, Gu Xiangsi kicked out with his right foot. The man screamed and curled up on the ground, cursing.
She grabbed the scattered powder and lipstick and stuffed them into her bag, kicked it hard again, snatched back the necklace and kicked it hard again, then picked up her high heels and staggered forward.
When she passed the intersection, she finally saw a taxi and stopped it.
Fu Sinian touched his back teeth with the tip of his tongue and uttered "huh" with a half-smile. His temper and personality didn't suffer at all, and he even knew how to give another kick.
For some reason, he started the car and followed the taxi slowly.
Gu Xiangsi curled up in her seat, looking at the neon lights retreating outside the window. The prosperity of the port city made her eyes sore.
Half a month after returning to China, she still hasn't adapted to the fast-paced hustle and bustle of the city. She didn't expect to be blocked by her aunt at the airport as soon as she landed, crying and accusing her father of dragging down their entire family.
"Grandma's hospitalization costs money, and we have to live in a rented house and it's so hard..."
Those words were mixed with spit and flew towards him. Gu Xiangsi was puzzled and asked, "Where is the money I gave you back then?"
Her aunt avoided her gaze and said, "That money is not enough for us to pay off our debts."
"Gu Xiangsi, if you don't give me the money, you'll never see your grandma again."
It was also that day that she saw clearly the true faces of her uncle and aunt's family, all of them were vampires, so she hid her edge and only applied for a project manager position.
Thinking of this, tears couldn't stop rolling down her cheeks again, and she hurriedly wiped them with her sleeves.
She thought it was probably because she suddenly saw him today that she felt sad.
When he arrived at the Aohua Community in Shau Kei Wan, Fu Sinian frowned as he looked at the residential complex.
He remembered that Gu Xiangsi was also the eldest daughter of a wealthy family in Gangcheng. Why did she live in such a place?
I heard a very light sigh from behind me, like a needle piercing my eardrum.
"Gu Xiangsi."
The tone in which he called her was exactly the same as on that rainy night five years ago.
Gu Xiangsi turned around, his body frozen in place, staring blankly at the familiar profile.
The Cullinan's windows were all the way down.
Half of Fu Sinian's profile was hidden in the darkness, the teardrop mole at the corner of his eye was blurred by the shadow, his black eyes were fixed on her tightly, and his voice was cold.
He asked her.
"Have you ever regretted it?"
She looked at his hands holding the steering wheel. Those bony hands had once caressed every inch of her body like a treasure. The last time he did so was when he grabbed her arm and begged her in a low voice not to break up.
Do you regret it?
If I could do it again...
"Mr. Fu." She heard her voice tremble slightly. "People should look forward."
The man in the driver's seat suddenly smiled. He turned his head to look at the bloodstain on her palm, which was glaring.
"Is this the life you want?" His tone turned even colder.
"yes."
"Very good, tomorrow at 8:30 am, Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital."
Gu Xiangsi nodded.
"My time is valuable and I hate people who are late."
——
Gu Xiangsi entered the apartment and her tense back finally relaxed.
In order to make her uncle and aunt believe her situation.
She shares the rent with someone else.
My roommate hasn't come back yet.
He took a quick shower, grabbed the medicine box, and paused as he applied ointment to the scraped area on his palm.
I wrapped the bleeding area with a Band-Aid, and looked down to see the wound on my ankle that was rubbed by high heels. The stabbing pain went straight to my heart along the nerves.
Perhaps the pain must be severe enough for those images hidden deep in memory to fade away.
She took the chain out of her bag and found that the joint was broken.
The two letters "XS" on the round pendant are clearly engraved, and the edges have been smoothed by time.
As her fingertips stroked the letters, Gu Xiangsi's thoughts surged. She raised her head and told herself, Gu Xiangsi, you are not allowed to cry. You still have a lot of things to do.
I'll be able to see grandma soon.
When Gu Xiangsi forced herself to close her eyes, she heard the sound of a door closing next door, and then she could vaguely hear a man's disgusting voice.
The woman I share the apartment with is called Xiaoli. She works in a nightclub. We don’t see each other very often. I don’t know why she came back so early today and brought a man with her.
Gu Xiangsi frowned.
Not long after, the sound of a bed moving came from the next room, along with a woman's moans and a man's excited, hoarse voice.
Gu Xiangsi suddenly felt something strange in her heart, and quickly pulled the quilt to cover her ears, but those ambiguous sounds still came in.
She completely lost her sleep.
The next day, the person in the mirror had two dark circles on his face.
She opened the door to her room and saw a shirtless man standing in the living room.
She turned around quickly and said, "Please put on your clothes."
The man walked straight towards her with a glass of water and asked with a playful smile.
"Beautiful girl, what's your name? Let's go out together sometime?"
Gu Xiangsi took a step back. The man looked her up and down with an undisguised gaze, making her feel uncomfortable.
"Excuse me, I have to go to work."
As she spoke, she dodged to the side, quickly locked her room, quickened her pace and walked out the door.
Colleagues at the company were talking about how a drunk man was beaten up by someone at the entrance of an alley yesterday.
"I heard that thing got broken by the kick."
