Chapter 12 Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Chapter 12

On the afternoon of the last day of preparing for the short vacation, Wen Ying received a call from Zhou Boyu.

Just seeing Zhou Boyu's name on the screen made her heart beat fast and her mouth dry.

"Hello, Mr. Zhou." She tried her best to make her voice sound calm and unperturbed.

Zhou Boyu's voice was electric, sounding more serious and solemn than in reality: "Wen Lu, do you have time tonight? I'd like to have a simple meal with you."

Wen Ying's palms were already sweaty. "I have time, but I'm not sure about Yao Lu. I need to ask him before I get back to you."

Zhou Boyu sounded cheerful and reiterated, "Wen Lu, I only invited you. There are some things we need to discuss in private."

Wen Ying already knew what a private invitation at this moment meant. She felt the same kind of excitement and joy she felt when sailing across a dark ocean and vaguely seeing a lighthouse guiding her.

"Okay," she agreed readily, "See you tonight, Mr. Zhou."

------

It was getting dark, and Wen Ying walked out of the office with her bag on her back. Luo Ming was sitting at his workstation, typing on his phone, a smile still on his face.

Seeing her suddenly come out, Luo Ming was caught off guard. He hurriedly suppressed his expression, put his phone upside down on the table, stood up and asked her: "Wen Lu is going out? Or is he leaving get off work?"

Wen Ying took in all of Luo Ming's little tricks. She wanted to tell him about her meeting with Zhou Boyu that evening, but she swallowed the words back: "Get off work."

She then instructed Luo Ming, "I will start my vacation tomorrow. You must handle the several follow-up cases on hand properly. If you are unsure, you can contact me. Don't let my absence delay the progress of the case."

Luo Ming nodded perfunctorily: "Goodbye, Wen Lu."

Wen Ying came down from Zhongsheng's building. A black Maybach disappeared into the night. When it saw her coming down, the car flashed twice.

Wen Ying went over and opened the back door, only to discover that it was Zhou Boyu himself who was driving. Feeling a little embarrassed, she closed the back door and sat in the front.

"Sorry, Mr. Zhou, I thought you were sitting in the back."

Zhou Boyu was very easygoing: "It's the same if you sit in the back. It's my honor to serve Miss Wen."

He changed the subject: "Miss Wen, what are your dietary restrictions?"

At this moment, signing this big deal is just a matter of finishing the deal. Even if there are demands, you have to say no: "I can do anything."

The phone vibrated in my hand. It was Shen Li calling.

Wen Ying hung up and sent him a WeChat message: "Something's up."

Shen Li replied: "Will you pick me up?"

Wen Ying: “No need.”

Zhou Boyu drove the car into the expressway. It seemed that the destination was not too close.

He could hear the vibration of his phone and asked Wen Ying, "Is there something I need from you? Don't be so reserved, you can answer the phone."

Wen Ying put away the phone: "It's not a big deal."

Zhou Boyu drove quietly. Wen Ying thought for a moment and then tried to test the waters: "Mr. Zhou asked me out alone today because he wanted to talk..."

"Ms. Wen," Zhou Boyu interrupted her, pointing to the flashing green light on the rearview mirror. "My insurance is expensive, and my car's onboard recorder is state-of-the-art."

Wen Ying understood immediately that the dashcam would record every sound in the car. She couldn't help but glance at Zhou Boyu—he didn't even call her "Wen Lu," instead calling her "Miss Wen," demonstrating his cautiousness.

Zhou Boyu said self-deprecatingly: "It's not a good thing to have too many people under you. People are all very different. Sometimes you just have to be more careful on your own."

Wen Ying understood.

Driver assistants are paid to work, and since Zhou Boyu offers a generous salary, they are loyal to him. But if someone else offers a higher and more attractive price, who can guarantee that they will not be tempted?

The two of them spoke in silence along the way as the car sped along, soon getting off the ring road and driving into the underground parking lot of an office building.

Zhou Boyu had a dedicated parking space, right next to the elevator. There were no buttons, just a fingerprint lock. Zhou Boyu placed his hand on it, and the elevator opened.

Wen Ying saw it clearly and knew in her heart that this big case was almost certain to be won. If Zhou Boyu didn't want her to be the agent, he would never bring her to such a secret place.

She was very happy, even a little excited, but her face remained calm, showing no surprise or excitement.

Wen Ying could sense Zhou Boyu's subtle gaze on her, knowing he was observing her one last time. She had no doubt that if she got carried away even a little, Zhou Boyu would immediately send her back to the underground parking lot and then tell her he had something urgent to do.

Wen Ying followed Zhou Boyu to the top floor. There was only a small dining table in the luxuriously decorated room.

The dishes are already on the table, steaming hot.

Zhou Boyu pointed casually and said, "Sit down."

But it’s just home cooking, the most common seasonal vegetables and soup pots.

Zhou Boyu poured her another bowl of soup and said, "Wen Lu should know why I invited you here tonight."

Wen Ying nodded: "I understand. Thank you, Mr. Zhou, for your trust."

The soup is old duck soup, and it is very fragrant.

Zhou Boyu's face was faintly visible through the wisps of hot air.

He spread his hands and leaned back in his chair, his posture wide open, a sign of complete trust: "You can ask questions."

Wen Ying quickly got to work: "Mr. Zhou asked me to represent you in your case because he must be hoping for victory. As your attorney, I want to emphasize only one thing: complete candor."

Zhou Boyu raised his eyebrows: "No problem."

"What was the main reason for your divorce from Mrs. Zhou?"

"Don't call her Mrs. Zhou," Zhou Boyu said after a moment's silence. He finally revealed the reason he didn't want others to know: "She had another man outside and caused some shameful things. I covered it up for her, but she felt justified. So I decided to divorce her."

"What is the shameful thing?" Wen Ying followed closely.

Zhou Boyu's face was filled with a rare look of anger. "Guan Qianqian was pregnant, but she didn't know it. She only found out after going to the hospital under my name for a checkup. I couldn't hide the news, so I had to admit it. I then arranged for her to have an abortion, only saying that the baby wasn't growing well and couldn't be kept."

The woman had cheated on him and got pregnant. No wonder Zhou Boyu was reluctant to let the group's legal team intervene.

Wen Ying had already made a judgment. It seemed that Zhou Boyu's lawsuit was less difficult than she had imagined.

"Have you ever committed adultery in your marriage?"

Zhou Boyu pushed up his rimless glasses, a hint of mockery in his eyes. "Wen Lu, at my age and with such wealth, do you think I have it? But I'm not stupid, so I won't be caught by anyone."

That is what it is.

Wen Ying felt the situation was getting a bit awkward. "Mr. Zhou, I'm your attorney. You need to answer my questions honestly. Only when I know the whole story can I help you develop the best solution."

Zhou Boyu looked at her for a moment, then finally became serious: "Yes, I have. But I can guarantee that Guan Qianqian doesn't have any evidence against me."

"That's just your opinion, it doesn't mean she really has no evidence," Wen Ying sighed softly. "Mr. Zhou, don't be too complacent. It's better to be cautious. As your attorney, I now ask you to refrain from any intimate relationships with anyone of the opposite sex until the divorce procedures are finalized. Furthermore, you must communicate all important matters to me and keep me fully informed."

"No problem," he looked at her with a smile, "I'll listen to Wen Lu in everything."

------

When Shen Li drove home, he saw a black Maybach parked across the entrance of the community. Shen Li wanted to honk the horn, but the passenger door opened and a slender figure got out of the car.

Wen Ying was thin to begin with, and her early winter coat had a tie around the waist. After tying it, her waist was so thin that it seemed like it could be broken with a single force of the hand.

She had her hair tied up, revealing a part of her white neck, and she stood under the street light, looking so bright that she seemed to be glowing.

Wen Ying bent down and said goodbye to Zhou Boyu with a smile through the passenger window.

"Thank you, Mr. Zhou, for your hospitality," Wen Ying said meaningfully. "Mr. Zhou's hospitality is generous. I will work hard."

Zhou Boyu placed his hands on the steering wheel, admiring Wen Ying like an oil painting. "It won't interfere with your vacation tomorrow. Send the contract to my email. I'll sign it and have it delivered to your office."

Wen Ying agreed: "Tomorrow we will formally submit your property preservation request to the court. Even if I take a vacation, it won't delay the progress. Please rest assured."

He looked past Wen Ying at the spacious old house behind him and asked, "Do you live here?"

Wen Ying nodded and said yes: "The scenery here is beautiful. There is a whole street of plane trees outside the window."

Zhou Boyu wanted to say something when the car behind him flashed its high beams twice.

Wen Ying turned her head to look over, then smiled apologetically at Zhou Boyu: "It's my husband. He should have seen me."

"Your husband?" Zhou Boyu had a playful smile in the corner of his eyes. "Do you live together?"

Wen Ying didn't understand why he asked this. Where would a couple live if they didn't live together?

She just thought Zhou Boyu's marriage was open, so when she first saw an ordinary couple, she felt a little strange, but she didn't think much of it: "Yes, we are together."

She clearly didn't want to talk any more and politely told him to leave: "Mr. Zhou, please be careful on your way. My phone is on 24 hours a day. You can contact me anytime if you need anything."

Zhou Boyu said no more, just nodded, smiled at her, glanced at the unfriendly SUV in the rearview mirror, and stepped on the accelerator to leave.

Zhou Boyu's Maybach left, and Shen Li's car slid over. He flicked the lock, signaling Wen Ying to get in.

She jumped into the car, puffing out air with her hands. "It's so cold. Is the heating coming on soon?"

Shen Li drove the car into the residential complex. There was an electric car parked at an angle outside the parking space, making it difficult to park. Shen Li said while steering, "It will be soon. By the time we get back from vacation, the house should be much warmer."

The car stopped and Shen Li pretended not to care: "Who just sent you back?"

Wen Ying said it was Zhou Boyu.

"Have you taken the case?" Chen Li got out of the car with her and walked home side by side, their shadows pressed closely together, stretched out long by the street lights.

Wen Ying finally didn't need to hide her excitement. She cheered and jumped up to hug Chen Li's waist. "As long as Zhou Boyu wins the case, I can become the most powerful divorce lawyer in Min City."

Chen Li held the briefcase in one hand and held Wen Ying's waist firmly with the other hand. He looked at her with a smile and said, "Congratulations, Wen Lu. I wish you victory in advance."

Wen Ying was held in his arms, her heartbeat clearly audible. Shen Li was very close to her, the warmth of his breath brushing against her cheek.

She laughed, "It's a pity that Inspector Shen couldn't appreciate my style in person."

Chen Li's big hand pinched Wen Ying's waist, causing her legs to almost go weak. Fortunately, she was held by Chen Li, so she was not exposed.

Shen Li's hands stayed on her waist, with no intention of leaving.

He leaned closer, with a bewitching look in his eyes: "I can appreciate Wen Lubie's grace."
