Chapter 38 Linking Interests
The day of the banquet.
Wen Song followed the rest of the Wen family. The car drove up the winding asphalt road that snaked up the mountainside. Soon, a huge manor came into view, seemingly located in the clouds, shrouded in mist like a fairyland.
I learned from Wen Xu that this was the Guan family's old residence, located in Suicheng, belonging to a truly wealthy and powerful family.
"He really is a country bumpkin." An Alpha stepped out of the car with his arms crossed, giving Wen Song, who was standing at the door looking around, a look of disdain on his face. His tone was full of sarcasm.
Alpha's name is Wen Jiaming, and he is Wen Xu's cousin.
It seems that it was the other party who hired someone to try to trick and frame Wen Song, but Zhao Mingzhuo stepped in to save the day.
After that, he dared not do anything excessive to Wen Song, but that did not stop Wen Jiaming from using words to ridicule him. Almost every time he saw Wen Song, he would roll his eyes and scoff, as if he had seen something dirty.
Wen Song remained expressionless in response.
They selectively ignored Wen Jiaming.
The dog will bite you.
Never bite the dog back.
Unless the words are too harsh, Wen Song will ignore what the other person says as if it were nothing.
Standing to the side, Wen Xu felt a wave of physical nausea upon hearing Wen Jiaming's words. He couldn't help but feel an indescribable disgust for this cousin, who always thought the whole world should "bow down" to him just because he was an Alpha.
That's pure idiot.
The two of them weren't exactly easy to deal with.
“No one will think you’re mute if you don’t speak,” Wen Xu said sarcastically. “But if you insist on barking, that’s fine too.”
Wen Jiaming was so rebuffed by Wen Xu's words that he almost rolled up his sleeves and was about to fight him.
Just then, an Alpha dressed in a bespoke dark suit stepped out of the car, holding onto the door.
The other person wore gold-rimmed glasses, which made him appear aloof and refined, exuding an air of nobility.
——— He is Wen Su, the eldest brother of the Wen family.
Wen Su said with a stern face, "Say less, aren't you ashamed enough already?"
The two people arguing quickly shut their mouths and dared not utter a sound.
"We're here for a birthday party. Do you think we can just cause trouble here like it's our own home?"
As the eldest brother in the family, he was especially afraid of his younger brothers.
Except for Wen Song.
“Wen Jiaming started it first,” Wen Xu said with a cold snort.
Wen Jiaming was about to retort, but when he met Wen Su's cold gaze, he swallowed all his words and endured the anger of being criticized. No matter how unhappy he was, he couldn't utter a single word.
"Alright," Wen Su said.
"They're all teenagers or in their twenties, yet they're so rude when they're visiting others."
"Aren't you afraid that others will see and laugh at you?"
No one dared to talk back when they were scolded.
Wen Su is their cousin, currently in charge of all affairs at the company. They will also be interning at the company after graduation. They should avoid offending him if possible, so as not to be too strict and cause trouble for Old Master Wen, who would then punish them accordingly.
Moreover, given their seniority, the other party is considered an "elder" to them.
"I understand," Wen Jiaming replied in an extremely perfunctory and dissatisfied tone.
Wen Song remained silent throughout.
There was no response.
There was no response.
Wen Su glanced in his direction, the emotions in his eyes unreadable to Wen Song.
But there should be no malicious intent.
"Let's go." Wen Su withdrew his gaze. "Let's go inside."
After saying that, the other person straightened his cuffs and strode towards the manor gate.
Wen Jiaming snorted coldly in the direction of Wen Song and followed him into the banquet hall.
As for Wen Song and Wen Xu, they stood still without moving.
"Don't you talk back when you get scolded?" Wen Xu asked indifferently, arms crossed.
Wen Song lowered his eyes. "There's no need to argue with a fool."
Wen Xu: "........."
"I really went out of my way to help you."
He looked annoyed as soon as he finished speaking, biting his lower lip, wishing he could take back what he had just said.
"They've gone in," he said, having given up all pretense of arguing about what was obvious. He casually glanced at the guests coming and going in the distance and said, "The banquet must be quite lively. It seems like all the families and companies with some standing in Suicheng have come."
Wen Song asked, "Whose birthday is it today?"
Wen Xu replied, "Guan Ju, the crown prince at the height of his power."
Wen Song was stunned for a moment, seemingly not expecting it to be Guan Ju's birthday.
The other party had not mentioned this at all when they invited him to the banquet.
Wen Xu: "I hope they won't try to pair me up with this Alpha anymore; it's pointless."
Wen Song knew that Wen Xu disliked Guan Ju from the bottom of her heart. Although the two had grown up together since childhood, their relationship was not even that of friends.
He asked, "Did Grandpa arrange for you to go on a blind date with Guan Ju for the sake of the Wen family?"
Wens is currently facing internal strife that has disrupted its project's cash flow, resulting in losses. The company urgently needs to find partners to help invest and generate funds to help it weather this crisis.
No one would be willing to take the risk if there were no prior connection.
That's why Old Master Wen set his sights on Guan Ju, using Wen Xu as a "sacrifice" for the family to turn the tide.
As they spoke, they walked side by side into the manor.
The interior was even more luxurious than the exterior, with many guests at the banquet and waiters carrying trays weaving through the crowd.
Wen Xu took a glass of champagne from the tray, took a small sip, and answered Wen Song's question in a calm and unhurried manner.
"certainly."
“Everyone’s marriage has a price tag, and in the end it will all be linked to the interests of their family.”
After a pause, his light brown eyes were unusually cold, and his voice carried a hint of indifference, "He had no choice at all."
As the saying goes, those in high positions are not in control of their own lives.
Wen Song: "Then why did you disobey Grandpa and not go on a blind date with Guan Ju?"
Wen Xu took a sip of champagne: "We can't escape an arranged marriage, but we can still choose who our partner is."
Wen Song understood.
There are many prominent Alphas in the city, and it doesn't have to be anyone who is a good match for them.
If a marriage alliance with Guan Ju could be successfully established, that would be the best outcome.
I remembered that Guan Ju was also called by her family to go on a blind date that day.
He asked cautiously, "As the crown prince of Dingsheng, shouldn't Guan Ju also be able to decide his own future marriage?"
