My Alpha
The turbulence of the plane as it passed through the clouds jolted Shao Wei from his light sleep. He opened his eyes to find himself engulfed in Si Qi's embrace, the Alpha's potent pheromones enveloping him like an impenetrable net. This feeling of complete possession filled him with both peace and embarrassment.
"Sleep a little longer." Si Qi's voice came from above his head, hoarse from waking up in the morning. "We still have two hours to get to Zurich."
Shao Wei shook his head slightly and tried to sit up straight, but suddenly felt a sharp pain shooting up from his spine to the back of his head. He tensed up suddenly, his fingers unconsciously clutching Si Qi's sleeve.
"Shao Wei?" Si Qi immediately noticed something was wrong and held his face in his hands. "What's wrong?"
Cold sweat instantly soaked Shao Wei's forehead. His pupils constricted, and his breathing became rapid and shallow, as if someone was strangling his throat. "It hurts..." This man, who never gave in, finally managed to squeeze out a broken syllable.
Si Qi's heartbeat nearly stopped. He pressed the call bell next to his seat and laid Shao Wei flat on the spacious chair. "Where does it hurt? Tell me where it hurts!"
Shao Wei was no longer able to answer. His body began to spasm uncontrollably, his slender fingers twisting into strange shapes, his nails scraping against the leather seat with a harsh sound. Most frightening of all, his once clear cedar pheromones suddenly became chaotic, sometimes chokingly strong, sometimes so weak as to be almost non-existent.
"Sir!" The flight attendant rushed over and turned pale with fear at the sight. "How can I help you?"
"Medical kit! Oxygen! Quick!" Si Qi roared, suppressing Shao Wei's convulsions with all his strength. "And contact Zurich Airport to prepare an ambulance!"
As the flight attendant rushed away, Si Qi leaned over to whisper in Shao Wei's ear, his voice trembling but firm: "Listen, you have to hold on, do you hear me? I won't let you give up like this... I won't let you..."
Shao Wei's pupils were already dilated, but he seemed to have heard Si Qi's words. His lips moved, but only silent gasps escaped. A tear slipped from the corner of his eye, blending into the cold sweat and disappearing.
After the medical kit arrived, Si Qi personally administered a sedative to Shao Wei. The drug slowly took effect, and Shao Wei's convulsions gradually subsided, but his face remained as pale as paper. Si Qi wiped his sweaty face and neck with a damp towel, his movements as gentle as if he were handling a fragile piece of glass.
"You'll be fine..." Si Qi kept repeating this sentence, not knowing whether he was comforting Shao Wei or himself, "It will be fine."
When the plane finally landed at Zurich Airport, Shao Wei had already fallen into a drug-induced coma. The ambulance was waiting, and paramedics rushed him to the best local hospital. Si Qi held his hand the entire time, until the emergency room door sealed him off.
Three hours and seventeen minutes. Siqi stared at the clock on the wall. Every second seemed like a century. When the doctor finally came out, he almost jumped out of his chair.
"He's stable for now." The doctor took off his mask. "But the situation is not optimistic. His pheromone system is breaking down. This speed... I've never seen it before."
Si Qi dug his nails into his palms. "Can we transfer to the Rosenberg Institute? We've already made an appointment with Professor Albert."
The doctor nodded. "I can arrange for an ambulance to take you there. Frankly, there's only so much a regular hospital can do."
When Shao Wei was wheeled out of the emergency room, Si Qi barely recognized him. Various tubes were connected to his body, and the monitors were ticking away like a clock counting down the seconds. The only comfort Si Qi felt was that Shao Wei's eyes were open. Though dull, they were clearly looking at him.
"Does it hurt?" Si Qi asked softly, carefully avoiding the pipes and holding Shao Wei's hand.
Shao Wei shook his head slightly, his lips barely curling into a smile. This forced smile made Si Qi's heart ache.
The Rosenberg Institute, perched on a hill outside Zurich, resembled a modern art museum, its glass facade reflecting the snowy Alps. Professor Albert personally greeted them at the door—a lean man in his sixties, with meticulously combed silver-gray hair and eagle-like eyes behind his glasses.
"Mr. Si," he said in English with a German accent, but his eyes remained on Shao Wei on the stretcher. "Is this your spouse?"
Si Qi didn't like the way he looked at Shao Wei. It wasn't like a doctor looking at a patient, but more like a scientist looking at an interesting specimen. "Shao Wei," he said, emphasizing the name. "His name is Shao Wei."
Albert nodded nonchalantly: "Take him to examination room number three. I want to do a full set of pheromone mapping and gene sequencing."
The next eight hours were the longest wait of Siqi's life. He sat on a bench in the hallway, watching the medical staff come and go, but received no concrete news. Outside the window, night slowly fell over Switzerland, and the outlines of the snow-capped mountains gradually faded into darkness.
When Albert finally showed up, Siqi was on the verge of exploding.
"How is it?" He stopped the professor, his voice hoarse from not speaking for a long time.
Albert's expression was unreadable. "Interesting. Very interesting." He motioned for Siqi to follow him. "Come to my office and talk."
The office was spacious and bright, with bookshelves covering one wall and various honorary certificates and patents on the other. Albert poured two glasses of whiskey and handed one to Siqi.
"I don't drink." Si Qi refused bluntly, "Tell me about Shao Wei's situation."
Albert shrugged and took a sip. "Your spouse's condition—sorry, Shao Wei—is indeed rare, but it's not without trace." He turned on his computer and pulled up a set of data charts. "Look here. His pheromone fluctuation pattern is very unique. It's not a simple disorder, but more like... some kind of rejection reaction."
"Reject?" Si Qi frowned, "Reject what?"
Albert gave him a meaningful look. "In theory, Alphas shouldn't have pheromone compatibility. It's a miracle that you've been married for three years without any serious conflict. But Shao Wei's situation is more complicated... His body seems to be rejecting his Alpha attributes."
Si Qi's heart sank: "Because you are with me?"
"Not necessarily." Albert turned his chair. "It's also possible that the genetic defect was triggered by some factor. I need more data. I'll start injecting him with experimental drugs tomorrow to observe the reaction." He paused. "Which hotel is he in? I need to be able to contact you at any time."
"We're staying at the Park Hotel Zurich," Siqi said, "but I won't let him leave the institute unless it's safe."
Albert smiled and said, "It's a wise choice. There's a family lounge on the third floor. You can stay there." He stood up and suddenly asked, "How did you two meet?"
This personal question made Si Qi stunned: "It's a marriage arranged by the family."
"Ah, a political marriage." Albert nodded, a glint in his eyes that Siqi couldn't understand, "How interesting."
It was late at night when Si Qi was finally allowed to see Shao Wei. A single light was on in the ward, and Shao Wei lay on the bed in the center, looking much younger than his actual age and heartbreakingly fragile.
"Hey." Si Qi said softly, sitting in the chair beside the bed, "How do you feel?"
Shao Wei's eyelashes fluttered before he opened his eyes. The drugs had slowed his reflexes, but a glint still flashed in his eyes when he saw Si Qi. "Sleepy..." he whispered, his voice like sandpaper.
Si Qi held his hand: "Go to sleep, I'm here."
Shao Wei shook his head slightly: "Hotel..."
"I'm not going to the hotel." Si Qi interrupted him, "I'll stay here with you."
Shao Wei's brow relaxed a little, but soon wrinkled again in pain. Si Qi could feel his hand trembling slightly.
"It hurts again?" Si Qi immediately became nervous. "I'll call a doctor—"
"No..." Shao Wei held his hand tightly, "Just stay with me..."
Si Qi leaned over and put his forehead against Shao Wei's: "Tell me what I can do to make you feel better."
To his surprise, a faint blush appeared on Shao Wei's pale face: "Your... pheromones..."
Si Qi understood immediately. Alpha pheromones are usually aggressive and oppressive, but in certain circumstances, they can also be used to soothe a partner. He carefully released a small amount of pheromones, weaving an invisible net that gently enveloped Shao Wei.
Shao Wei's breathing gradually became steady, and his body was no longer tense. Just when Si Qi thought he had fallen asleep, he suddenly spoke: "Si Qi..."
"Um?"
"If... I can't be cured..." Shao Wei's voice was as light as a sigh, "Bury me where you can see the moon..."
Si Qi's throat instantly choked. He forcibly suppressed the heat rising in his eyes: "Don't be silly. You will get better, and then we will watch the moon together every night until you get tired of it."
Shao Wei chuckled softly, but was interrupted by a cough. Si Qi helped him drink some water and carefully wiped the water stains from his lips.
"Go to sleep." Si Qi whispered, "Tomorrow will be better."
Shao Wei seemed to want to say something, but in the end he just closed his eyes. Si Qi stayed vigil all night, watching the liquid in the drip bottle fall drop by drop, like a countdown to the passing of life.
The next morning, Albert and his team arrived for their ward rounds. They performed more tests on Shao Wei and then began the first experimental treatment. After the drug was injected, Shao Wei quickly fell into a deep sleep, and Si Qi was asked to leave the room.
"The medicine needs time to work," Albert said. "Why don't you go back to the hotel and wash up and rest. I'll notify you immediately if anything happens."
Si Qi wanted to refuse, but then he realized that he really needed a change of clothes and a short rest, so he finally agreed. He called a car from the institute to take him to the hotel and promised to return within two hours.
The Park Hotel Zurich was magnificent, but Siqi had no time to admire it. He quickly showered, changed into clean clothes, and was about to leave when his phone rang. It was the number from the institute.
"Mr. Si!" The nurse's voice was full of panic. "Mr. Shao has woken up, but his condition is very unstable... He is looking for you..."
Siqi's heartbeat almost stopped: "I'll be back soon!"
When he rushed into the ward, the scene before him made his blood freeze - Shao Wei was half-sitting on the bed, his face flushed, his eyes unfocused, and several medical staff were trying to hold down his struggling body.
"Shao Wei!" Si Qi rushed over and hugged him in his arms, "I'm here, I'm back..."
Miraculously, Shao Wei calmed down in his arms. His temperature was alarmingly high, his breathing was rapid, but he was no longer struggling. "Siqi..." he murmured, his voice thick with the ambiguity of a high fever, "Don't go..."
"I won't leave." Si Qi promised, patting his back gently, "I will never leave again."
The medical staff exchanged glances and quietly left the room, leaving only the monitoring equipment to continue working.
Shao Wei's fever lasted the entire afternoon. He slipped in and out of consciousness, at one point failing to recognize Si Qi and recoiled in fear. At the worst, he cried and said he didn't want to die. His devastated expression completely broke Si Qi's heart.
As night fell, the fever finally subsided. Shao Wei lay exhausted in Si Qi's arms, his eyes clearer than before.
"I'm sorry..." he whispered, "for letting you see me like this..."
Si Qi kissed his forehead: "Silly boy, what is there to apologize for?"
Shao Wei smiled weakly: "Professor Albert...what do you say?"
Siqi hesitated, deciding not to tell the whole truth. "He said more tests are needed. But the experimental drug seems to be having some effect, isn't it?"
Shao Wei's eyes fell on the needle hole on his arm: "I feel... better." This seemed to be the truth, and his voice was steadier than in the morning.
Si Qi was about to answer when Shao Wei suddenly raised his hand and touched his face. This proactive contact made Si Qi stunned.
"Thank you... for bringing me here." Shao Wei said, his fingers gently tracing Si Qi's outline, "No matter what the result..."
Si Qi grabbed his hand and put it to his lips: "It will be fine. I promise."
To his surprise, Shao Wei suddenly leaned forward and placed a kiss on his lips as light as a butterfly's wing. This was the first time in three years that Shao Wei had taken the initiative to kiss him.
"I believe you." Shao Wei said, with a glint in his eyes that Si Qi had never seen before. "Always."
Outside the window, the Swiss sky shone like diamonds. Si Qi hugged Shao Wei even tighter, as if that could ward off all pain and death. He didn't know what the future held, but right now, the warmth of the person in his arms and that gentle kiss were all the courage he needed.
