Paranoid Possession 2

Paranoid Possession 2

Si Qi's voice was low, yet it carried an undeniable resolve, even a subtle hint of... pleading. This usually cold and arrogant top-tier Alpha, now at his partner's bedside and faced with the weight of his unknown past, finally dropped all pretense, revealing his inner anxiety and helplessness.

Dr. Chen glanced at Shao Wei, who seemed to be fast asleep on the bed, his eyelashes still trembling slightly. Then he looked at the Alpha before him, whose back seemed tense under an invisible pressure, and sighed silently. He pointed to a small table piled with documents in the corner of the laboratory. "Let's talk over here. Don't disturb his rest."

The two men walked to a corner. The cold, incandescent light shone on Dr. Chen's weathered face, his silver-rimmed glasses reflecting a cold gleam. Si Qi didn't sit down, but simply leaned against the table, his eyes never leaving the hunched figure on the distant bed.

"Where do I start?" Dr. Chen's voice was low and hoarse, with a heavy feeling of recalling the past.

"From the very beginning." Si Qi's voice was firm. "What exactly was the purpose of that 'Twin Project'?"

Dr. Chen took a deep breath and gazed into the void, as if piercing the barriers of time. "Official records describe it as a noble project aimed at cultivating the strongest Alphas and optimizing human genetics. But in essence, it's more akin to... manufacturing the most sophisticated biological weapons, or, in other words, creating a 'god' capable of controlling future resources and power."

Siqi's pupils contracted slightly.

"You," Dr. Chen said, looking at Siqi, "are the most successful 'products' of this project. Identical twins, with perfectly complementary genetic sequences, theoretically possessing unlimited potential. One is endowed with extreme aggression and dominance (Siqi), while the other is designed with top-level analytical ability, endurance, and... a certain 'sacrificial' spirit (Shao Wei). From embryonic stage, you were branded with a mutual attraction and mutual restraint."

Si Qi thought of all the business problems Shao Wei had perfectly solved, and how he had silently endured his indifference for three years. His heart felt like it was being stabbed by needles. It turned out that it wasn't just his personality, it was a destiny that had been designed.

"What about childhood?" Si Qi asked, his voice becoming even hoarse. "Have we really met?"

"Yes, but far fewer times than what's recorded in the album." Dr. Chen nodded, a complex expression flashing across his eyes. "Those frequent meeting photos were mostly post-production and implanted into your memories to strengthen the subconscious connection. Real meetings...are usually accompanied by extensive testing and data collection."

He pulled up some encrypted old files on his tablet. The footage was a blurry surveillance camera: two skinny boys, dressed in matching white, stood in a cold laboratory, their bodies wired with electrodes and tubes. Sometimes they were tasked with competing against each other's pheromones, other times they were locked together in simulated extreme environments, their physiological responses recorded. Occasionally, they would steal a quick glance at each other, their eyes brimming with childish innocence, yet also with a carefully cultivated curiosity and concern for one another.

Si Qi's breathing grew heavier. He stared at the quieter, more forbearing Shao Wei in the image, his stomach churning. Blurred fragments tried to break through the fog—the touch of cold instruments, the smell of disinfectant in the air, and... the inexplicable anxiety and discomfort he felt watching another version of himself suffer. It turned out it wasn't just his imagination.

"That wooden house..." Si Qi said with difficulty.

"It's part of the plan. A relatively 'natural' environment, used to observe your interaction patterns outside of laboratory conditions and test the boundaries of your connection. That graffiti must have been secretly carved by you during a break in one of the tests." Dr. Chen pushed his glasses. "That was one of the few times you looked... a little like normal children."

The short, monitored "freedom" was their entire childhood.

"What happened next? Why did they separate? That blood...the white room..." Si Qi asked, he had a premonition that he was about to touch the core of the darkness.

Dr. Chen's expression grew unusually solemn, even a hint of fear flashing across his face. "Because the plan diverged, or rather, revealed its true fangs. A group of leaders, later known as the 'Watchers' faction, weren't content with mere cultivation; they desired... absolute control."

He pulled up a document marked "Top Secret," titled "Feasibility Experiment of Glandular Symbiosis and Consciousness-Directedness."

"They envisioned that by strengthening the glandular activity of one and weakening the other, they could eventually achieve partial or even complete consciousness dominance, creating a primary body and an absolutely obedient 'sub'—the ultimate weapon with double the power yet answering to a single brain." Dr. Chen's voice was tinged with suppressed anger. "And Shao Wei, because of his high compatibility and endurance built into his genetic design, was chosen as the initial... 'sub' to be cultivated."

Si Qi felt a chill running from his feet to his head, his blood practically freezing. He glanced at Shao Wei lying on the hospital bed, unable to imagine what he had been through.

"That time... in the white room..." Dr. Chen's voice was hoarse. "It was an extreme glandular activity suppression experiment, designed to test Shao Wei's endurance and pave the way for subsequent consciousness intervention. They used... unconventional methods."

The fuzzy fragments of memory were like wild beasts breaking free from a cage, roaring and attacking Siqi's mind!

The blinding shadowless lights! The cold restraints! Shao Wei's pale, sweat-stained face! His desperate, pained eyes! And... the air filled with the scent of Shao Wei's pheromones, the rusty, desperate cedar scent! And... the cold, gleaming needles and instruments in the hands of those in white coats and masks!

"stop!"

A hoarse roar, not from the present but from the depths of memory, nearly broke through Si Qi's throat! He remembered! He wasn't completely in the dark! That time, he seemed to sense Shao Jizhi's agony, and he broke through the guards and broke into the laboratory!

What was he seeing? It looked like... blood? Blood oozing from near Shao Wei's glands? And those people were trying to hold him down and give him a sedative!

What had he done to those people in white coats? His memory was still confused, but a violent, destructive rage remained clearly!

So the blood in his memory was not Shao Wei’s, but... those people’s?

Because he broke into the experiment, causing damage and casualties? So after that, they were forcibly separated, their memories tampered with, and he was indoctrinated with the vague concept that Shao Wei was "voluntarily dedicating himself to science", while Shao Wei was implanted with deeper fears and negative associations about him (Si Qi)?

"After that incident, the 'Watchers' faction gained the upper hand, believing that your emotional connection was an unstable factor and must be isolated and strictly controlled. You were completely separated and sent to different places for upbringing, and your memories were cleansed and overwritten. I and some researchers who opposed such extreme measures were regarded as hidden dangers and forced to leave the core. Later, we established this secret research station and have been secretly searching for you and trying to stop them." Dr. Chen's words confirmed Siqi's most terrifying guess.

Si Qi couldn't hold on any longer, one hand slamming heavily on the table, his knuckles turning white from the exertion, and his body trembling slightly. It wasn't out of fear, but out of overwhelming rage and the regret and heartache that nearly drowned him!

It turns out that Shao Wei had been suffering because of him all along! Because of his damned, programmed "aggression" and uncontrolled connection reaction, even more cruel consequences befell Shao Wei! And he completely forgot about it, even hurting him again with indifference and neglect in the three years after their reunion!

Marriage was just a formality? Damn formality! That should have been his only chance to make amends and protect Shao Wei, but he turned it into a long, slow torture with his own hands!

No wonder Shao Wei said, "Life is inherently meaningless." From embryo to childhood to marriage, his life seemed a predetermined tragedy, never truly living for himself.

The violent emotional fluctuations caused Siqi's pheromones to become unstable again, and the sandalwood scent became restless and suppressed.

Perhaps it was the familiar change in pheromones that stimulated Shao Wei's light sleep, or perhaps it was the dark memories touched upon by the conversation that surged up again.

Shao Wei lying on the hospital bed suddenly let out a very painful gasp as if his throat was being strangled, and suddenly opened his eyes!

This time, his eyes were no longer filled with pure confusion or fear, but were filled with intense struggle and... a bottomless icy lake of pain and despair.

He saw Si Qi and Dr. Chen in the corner, and through them, he seemed to see the bloody and cruel fragments of the past that had just been gradually pieced together in his chaotic mind.

His gaze finally fixed on Si Qi, and emotions surged violently in his ice-blue eyes, eventually settling into a heartbreaking, knowing silence.

He opened his mouth, his voice as light as a sigh, but with a kind of despair and exhaustion. Every word was like an icicle hitting Si Qi's heart:

"So... it's because I... wasn't 'obedient' enough that you... were dragged into this... and suffered all that?"

He wasn't questioning, but stating a cruel "truth" that he had just "understood." In his confused memories, it seemed that it was his "non-cooperation" and "vulnerability" that led to the horrific experiment, which in turn led to Siqi's intrusion and all the subsequent suffering.

He blamed himself for all the pain.

Si Qi's heart seemed to be crushed by these words in an instant, and he was in so much pain that he could hardly straighten his back.

"No! Shao Wei, it's not like that!" He could no longer keep his distance and rushed to the bed, wanting to grab Shao Wei's hand, but his movements were frozen by the dead silence in his eyes.

Shao Wei simply closed his eyes tiredly, turned his head to the side, and avoided his touch, as if even looking at him required a huge amount of effort, and as if... he no longer expected any answer.

The silent rejection made Si Qi more desperate than any fierce resistance.

The flames of the crematorium finally burned deep into his heart, scorching his soul and allowing him to see clearly the devastating damage he had caused to this person in the past three years and even longer.

But at this moment, he seemed to have lost the qualifications to hug him and tell him "it's not your fault".

The high wall did not collapse, but became even thicker and colder because of the cruelty of the truth.

Si Qi froze in place, looking at Shao Wei's back as he refused, and for the first time he realized clearly that—

His journey to pursue her husband may not lead to reconciliation, but to an endless ice field that he will need to spend the rest of his life to warm and make up for.

Shao Wei's light, airy words, blaming himself for all the sins, were like the sharpest icicle, piercing Si Qi's heart and seemingly draining all the strength he had just gathered. He tilted his head, closed his eyes, and breathed weakly and rapidly, as if he wanted only to completely shut himself off, sinking into the endless darkness to escape the suffocating truth and guilt.

Si Qi's outstretched hand froze in mid-air, his fingertips icy cold. He desperately wanted to embrace the person, wanted to forcefully tell him "It's not your fault," wanted to scream and tear those who had hurt him into pieces... But all his impulses were frozen by Shao Wei's rejection and the dead silence that permeated his body.

He was scared.

An unprecedented fear gripped him. He was afraid that his touch would deepen Shao Wei's pain, that his words would be powerless, and even more afraid...that Shao Wei would give up completely, never wanting to step out of that cold world of self-punishment.

Dr. Chen silently stepped forward and shook his head at Si Qi, indicating that the best option at this moment was to give him some space. He checked on Shao Wei's condition and whispered, "The mental shock has been too much. Let him rest. His body needs time to recover, and his brain needs time... to process this information."

Si Qi took a few steps back with difficulty, his back slamming heavily against the cold metal wall with a dull thud. He slowly slid down, burying his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably. It wasn't crying, but a physiological reaction to a mixture of extreme powerlessness and anger.

In the corner, there was only the regular ticking of the instruments and the suffocating, endless silence between the two of them.

This night was exceptionally long.

Si Qi sat awake all night, leaning against the wall like a trapped beast guarding a treasure, his eyes hardly ever leaving the silent figure on the hospital bed. Shao Wei seemed to sleep most of the time, but his sleep was extremely restless, his brow furrowed, and he would occasionally utter unconscious, painful mutters, his body trembling slightly.

Every time, Si Qi would suddenly tense his body and subconsciously want to move forward, but he would force himself to hold back. However, the sandalwood pheromones around his body would fluctuate uncontrollably, revealing the turbulent waves in his owner's heart.

Dr. Chen and Silver Fox took turns on duty, monitoring the data, occasionally exchanging a few words in a low voice, and the atmosphere was solemn.

As daybreak neared, the snow finally died down. A pale light streamed through the window, and the chill within the research station seemed to penetrate deep into my bones.

Shao Wei woke up.

He didn't open his eyes immediately, simply lying quietly, as if trying to confirm his own life. His long eyelashes cast a fragile shadow on his pale face. After a long moment, he slowly opened his eyes. His icy blue pupils no longer held the intense struggle and despair of yesterday, but instead were covered with a deeper, almost nihilistic, layer of exhaustion and emptiness.

He stared at the ceiling, his eyes unfocused, as if his soul had been pulled out, leaving only a numb shell after enduring too much pain.

Si Qi stood up almost the moment he opened his eyes, but didn't dare to get close. His Adam's apple rolled dryly, and his voice was hoarse from a sleepless night: "...Awake? How do you feel? Do you want some water?"

He asked three questions in quick succession, with an awkward eagerness that was completely different from his usual stern image.

Shao Wei's eyes turned towards him very slowly, his gaze lingering on his bloodshot eyes and haggard face for a few seconds. There was no emotion in his eyes, neither fear nor resentment, it was as if he was looking at a...stranger.

This empty calmness made Si Qi more anxious than yesterday's resistance.

Shao Wei shook his head slightly, his movement barely perceptible, then shifted his gaze back to the ceiling and closed his eyes, as if even maintaining eye contact was an extremely exhausting task.

Si Qi's heart sank, he clenched his fists at his sides, then loosened them weakly.

Dr. Chen brought a glass of warm water and an energy bar, handed them to Si Qi, and signaled him with his eyes to try it.

Si Qi hesitated for a moment, but finally took it and walked to the bedside, trying to make his voice sound steady: "Drink some water, you need to replenish your energy."

Shao Wei did not respond, as if he didn't hear it.

Si Qi's hand, holding the water cup, froze in mid-air, caught between a rock and a hard place. A profound sense of powerlessness threatened to overwhelm him. He'd rather Shao Wei yelled at him, questioned him, even betrayed his fear again, than be like this... It was as if he, and everything he represented, had been completely erased from Shao Wei's world, unworthy of any emotional turmoil.

Just when Si Qi was about to give up, Shao Wei's lips moved very slightly, and his voice was so low that it was almost inaudible:

"...Are they still outside?"

Si Qi was stunned for a moment, then immediately realized he was referring to the "Watchers." A mixture of heartache and anger washed over him, and he immediately said, "They're here, but don't worry, they can't get in. I'll take care of it."

Shao Wei slowly opened his eyes and looked at him. There seemed to be a tiny fluctuation in his empty eyes, but it was fleeting, so fast that it was hard to grasp. He was silent for a moment, and then he asked with great difficulty, word by word:

"...Handle it? Like... before?"

Same as before?

Was it the same way he remembered breaking into the white room, bringing destruction and blood?

Si Qi's breath suddenly stopped, and he instantly understood the unspoken meaning and deep-seated fear in Shao Wei's words. Shao Wei was perhaps not just afraid of the "Watcher," but also that Si Qi would lose control again because of him, be caught up in violence and danger again, and repeat the tragedy of the past.

He also regarded the actions that Si Qi might take as another "disaster" caused by him.

Si Qi's heart felt like it had been stabbed by these words, the pain numbing his fingertips. He looked into Shao Wei's eyes, which were filled with fatigue and numbness, yet concealed a subtle worry in their deepest parts. Suddenly, a certain enlightenment struck him.

Shao Wei was not rejecting him.

He was trying to "protect" him in an almost self-destructive way, by completely shutting himself off, by displaying absolute obedience and numbness, in order to avoid stimulating any factors that might cause conflict and harm—including Siqi himself.

This realization made Si Qi's heartache reach its peak.

He slowly squatted down, bringing his eyes level with Shao Wei, who was lying on the bed. He no longer tried to get closer, nor was he in a hurry to explain. Instead, he looked into Shao Wei's eyes with an unprecedented, extremely serious tone, and solemnly and slowly promised:

"No. It's different."

"Before... I lost control. I was stupid. Driven by anger and instinct, I used the worst possible means." His voice was low but clear, filled with heart-wrenching remorse. "But in the end, you suffered even more."

"This time, I won't do that again." Si Qi's eyes were firm, as if he wanted to brand every word into Shao Wei's heart, "I will use here," he pointed to his head, "instead of relying solely on here." He clenched his fists again, indicating instinct and violence.

"I will stay calm, plan, and make sure everything goes smoothly." He continued, his gaze unwavering. "I promise you, I won't let anyone hurt you again, and I will never let you feel scared or...blame yourself because of anything I do."

This is the most important promise I can make. It's not just about protection, it's about change. For you, I'm willing to become a better, more rational, more reliable person.

Shao Wei listened quietly, his ice-blue eyes looking at Si Qi without blinking. The layer of numbness and emptiness that covered him seemed to fluctuate slightly, as if a small stone was thrown into the frozen lake, and extremely tiny ripples spread out silently.

He didn't say anything, just looked at Siqi, as if measuring the truthfulness of his words.

After a long moment, so long that Si Qi almost thought he wouldn't respond, Shao Wei gave an extremely subtle, almost imperceptible nod. Then, very slowly and tentatively, he tilted his head slightly towards the water cup in Si Qi's hand.

A tiny, almost non-existent signal of acceptance.

Si Qi's heart skipped a beat, and an indescribable surge of bitter warmth instantly dispelled the coldness and despair he had felt before. Cautiously, even with a slight tremor, he brought the straw to Shao Wei's dry lips.

Shao Wei lowered his eyelashes and took a sip of water very slowly. His movements were still stiff, with a kind of hesitation and unfamiliarity that came from long-term repression.

But to Si Qi, this insignificant sip of water was like a sweet rain, nourishing his almost dry and parched soul.

The high wall was still cold and solid, but it seemed... a tiny crack had finally appeared.

Si Qi half-knelt beside the bed, maintaining the posture of handing water, motionless, afraid to disturb this hard-earned, extremely fragile relaxation. His eyes were focused on Shao Wei's pale face, as if guarding the most precious and fragile thing in the world.

Outside the window, the sky cleared after the snow, and a thin ray of sunlight struggled to penetrate the clouds. It shone through the small window of the research station and cast a small, faint spot of light on the cold floor.

The cold weather remains, but hope, like a ray of light, begins to seep into this frozen land with difficulty and persistence.

Si Qi knew this was just the beginning. Shao Wei's psychological trauma was far from healed, and the confusion of his memories would take time to sort out. The external threats still existed. His crematorium of chasing his husband was still burning fiercely.

But at least he saw the direction.

He didn't try to break the ice by force, but used enough patience and warmth to lead his lover out of that self-enclosed cold world, little by little, warmly and firmly.

No matter how long it takes.

That small sip of water was like a key, ever so slightly turning the deadlock. Although Shao Wei quickly closed his eyes again, returning to a near-dormant silence, Si Qi keenly captured the subtle change—no longer a complete rejection, but a temporary respite from extreme exhaustion.

He carefully placed the water cup within reach of the bedside table and remained there, half-kneeling like a loyal guard. A sliver of sunlight filtered through the small window, slowly moving, finally landing on Shao Wei's hand resting on the edge of the bed. His fingers were pale and slender, the sunlight almost penetrating their skin, revealing a fragile, transparent quality.

Si Qi's gaze fell upon them, a bittersweet feeling welling up inside him. He remembered how those hands had brought him perfectly warm coffee late at night, how they had silently cleaned up the mess in his room after his sensitive period, how they had written in a notebook filled with the words "Life is meaningless"... For the past three years, he had ignored all the efforts of those hands, seeing only their silence and obedience.

Now, he just wanted to hold it tightly and never let go.

But he didn't move. He simply watched, carefully tracing the outline of the finger with his eyes, suppressing all regret and pity beneath the surging sandalwood pheromones, trying to make it emit only a gentle, reassuring scent.

Time flows in silence.

The others at the research station also moved with deliberate caution, creating a rare atmosphere of tranquility. Dr. Chen, at the console, analyzed the data from the chip extracted from Shao Wei's brain, his brow furrowed. Silver Fox, on the surveillance screen, closely monitored the movements of the "Watchers" outside. They hadn't left yet, but there were no signs of further movement, as if they were waiting for something.

In the afternoon, Shao Wei's breathing became deeper and more even, as if he had truly fallen asleep.

Si Qi then stood up very slowly, his joints making a slight sound from holding the same position for so long. He walked over to Dr. Chen and lowered his voice, "What's in the chip?"

Dr. Chen pointed to a complex string of codes and neural mapping diagrams on the screen. "Memory suppression and physiological monitoring are the primary functions. But there's also a deeply hidden trigger protocol tied to specific high-frequency signals. Once activated, it can not only cause severe pain, but may even... tamper with or overwrite short-term memories."

A chill ran down Si Qi's spine. This meant that even if the chip was removed, if the Watcher mastered this technology, they could still influence Shao Wei through external means.

"Is there any way to defend against it?"

"We're researching it, but it takes time and requires more advanced equipment, and the conditions here are limited." Dr. Chen sighed, "Besides, I'm worried they won't give us much time. Yesterday's failure will only infuriate them, and the next wave of attacks may be even more fierce."

Si Qi's eyes darkened. He glanced at the sleeping Shao Wei, his gaze becoming incomparably sharp: "Then take the initiative to attack."

"What?" Dr. Chen was stunned.

"We can't just passively hide here forever." Si Qi's voice was calm, almost cold. The decisiveness and sharpness of a top-tier Alpha were once again revealed, but this time, it wasn't for commercial gain or personal arrogance, but for protection. "They think we're trapped beasts. Let's show them how terrifying a trapped beast, cornered, can be when it strikes back."

He walked over to the surveillance screen, looking at the dark figures and dormant helicopters in the snow outside. "Their advantage is equipment and numbers. Our advantage..." He paused, his gaze falling on Shao Wei, his voice lowered. "It's us. It's a connection that we ourselves don't fully understand."

Dr. Chen pondered: "You want to use the resonance phenomenon?"

"Since it can block energy suppressors, perhaps it has other potential." Si Qi's eyes were sharp. "Also, they obviously have limited understanding of our current situation and may even be afraid of it. This is the breakthrough point."

The plan gradually took shape in whispered conversations. Siqi needed all the information Dr. Chen had about the Watchers' locations, their regular patterns of operation, and possible internal factional divisions. He needed to find a weakness, a point that would allow them to break through their defenses, at least gain a breathing space, or perhaps even gain bargaining chips.

He is no longer the Si Qi who only knows how to strategize in the business world, but the Si Qi who is forced into a desperate situation and has to fight for survival and protection.

Just as the discussion was coming to an end, a very soft whimper, as if someone was having a nightmare, came from the other side of the bed.

Si Qi immediately stopped talking and returned to the bed in an instant.

Shao Wei didn't wake up, but seemed to be having an extremely painful dream. His forehead was covered with cold sweat, his body was slightly convulsing, and his lips were moving silently, as if he was begging for something.

"Don't...separate us..." A very vague, tearful whisper escaped intermittently, "...Brother...it hurts..."

elder brother? !

This word struck Si Qi like a bolt of lightning! He froze suddenly, his pupils shrinking suddenly.

Dr. Chen also heard this, a complicated expression on his face. He whispered, "The memories in your subconscious... began to truly revive after the chip was removed. Your biological relationship is a mark that cannot be completely erased."

Si Qi's heart raced, an indescribable warmth, a mixture of bitterness and throbbing, pounding his chest. He watched Shao Wei writhing in agony within his nightmare, watching him unconsciously reveal the dependence and vulnerability of a younger brother. Those years of forced separation, tampering and concealment, seemed to rush back in a flash!

Blurry images once again flooded his mind: two tiny figures chasing and playing in the snow; a furtive exchange of encouraging glances in the cold laboratory; the fear and reluctance in those icy blue eyes as they were taken away, and the desperate, muzzled "...Brother"...

It turns out that those inexplicable feelings of familiarity, those uncontrollable attention, those doubly anxious reactions when seeing Shao Wei in pain... are not groundless!

It is a bond deeply rooted in the genes and the deepest part of the soul, an instinct that cannot be completely erased even if the memory is erased or forcibly distorted!

He didn't suddenly fall in love with Shao Wei.

He is...finally found the lost other half of his soul.

Si Qi slowly stretched out his hand, and this time, without any hesitation, he very gently held Shao Wei's hand, which seemed to want to grab something in the void.

The moment their palms touched, Shao Wei's violent trembling strangely subsided a little. He was still trapped in a nightmare, but like a drowning man grabbing a piece of driftwood, his fingers unconsciously tightened, gripping Si Qi's fingers tightly, with such force that it almost broke his bones.

Si Qi let him hold on, and even hoped that he would hold on tighter.

He leaned down, close to Shao Wei's ear, and repeated in a low, husky voice that he had never used before, extremely gentle, as if he was offering a comfort that was more than 20 years late:

"Don't be afraid... I'm here." "We won't be separated... We'll never be separated again..." "Brother is here..."

He didn't know whether Shao Wei could hear him, but he kept on talking, conveying the heavy and hot promise that was lost and regained bit by bit through the clasped hands and gentle pheromones.

Perhaps it was the words that worked, or perhaps it was the comfort brought by the connection, but Shao Wei's tense body gradually relaxed and his breathing became steady again, but he still held Si Qi's hand tightly, as if it was his only anchor in the endless ocean of nightmares.

Si Qi maintained this somewhat awkward position, half-kneeling beside the bed, motionless, allowing Shao Wei to hold his hand. The sun gradually set, stretching their figures and casting them on the cold ground, like a belated, incomplete but firm embrace.

Dr. Chen and Silver Fox looked at each other, then silently stepped aside, leaving the space to them.

After an unknown amount of time, Shao Wei's eyelashes trembled again and he slowly opened his eyes.

This time, his eyes were no longer completely empty or numb, but instead held a hint of confusion and vulnerability, as if he had just emerged from a deep dream. The first thing he felt was the firm and warm touch of his hand.

His gaze slowly moved down and landed on his and Si Qi's tightly clasped hands, and he was stunned for a few seconds.

Then, he raised his eyes very slowly and looked at Si Qi who was close to him.

Their eyes met.

Si Qi's heart leaped into his throat. He held his breath, waiting for Shao Wei's reaction. Would he push him away again, or...

Shao Wei's gaze lingered on their clasped hands for a long time, complex emotions flowing in his ice-blue eyes: confusion, bewilderment, a trace of residual fear, and... a very faint trace of dependence and greed that he himself might not even have noticed.

He didn't withdraw his hand immediately.

He just looked at Siqi, his voice hoarse from waking up and a hint of uncertainty and hesitation, as if he was confirming a vague dream:

"...What did you call me just now?"

Si Qi's heart suddenly trembled. He looked at the subtle look in Shao Wei's eyes that was no longer completely isolated, and a huge sense of bitterness and hope surged into his throat.

He held Shao Wei's hand tightly, looked deeply into his eyes, and answered his question word by word, clearly and solemnly:

"Shao Wei." "I remember everything." "You are my brother." "It was me who lost... half of his body."
