Chapter 21 She Chose You
Ian sensed something was going on when he and the patrol team were patrolling the surrounding area.
It was so quiet, unusually quiet.
This is not the Zerg's usual style.
He used his spiritual body to enhance his vision and hearing, and could only sense the rustling of leaves and the occasional chirping of one or two insects.
"Marshal! Look at the black tower!"
There was a cry of surprise from the sentry beside him.
The building known as the most high-end building in District 9 was now crawling with slimy insects. The sunlight reflected their original muddy color, and they rolled and merged together to form a strange, wriggling and tumbling sphere.
The sphere slowly filled with the color of sunlight, becoming redder and redder, and finally exploded with a loud bang.
"Oh my God." The sentinels' terrified pupils reflected the flash of fire when the top of the black tower collapsed, but they were quickly brought back to their senses by Ian's calm voice.
"Zerg are guarding the 12 o'clock and 1 o'clock directions, and the commanding Zerg Queen is nearby." Ian took a long step and mounted the Star Rider. "Don't be distracted by the black tower. Team one and team two will go to the 12 o'clock direction to attract the Zerg's attention. The rest of you, follow me."
The deeper you go into the forest, the quieter it becomes, to the point where you might even wonder if there are any insects in this area.
But in Ian's mind were Qianzhi's green and wise eyes.
[The more separated and orderly the insects' arrangement, the more obvious it is that the insect queen is nearby.]
For some reason, he believed what she said.
Moreover, his intuition told him that the insect queen must be here.
But in front of them was only an open space and a clear pool with the bottom visible.
Following Ian's gesture, the sentries quickly raised their guns and prepared for attack and defense, watching Ian fire the magnetic cannon at the transparent pool of water.
The electromagnetic cannon that was supposed to land at the bottom of the pool actually made a violent explosion the moment it touched the water.
"Roar--" The disguised pool water phantom disappeared in an instant, and what appeared in front of them was a giant black insect.
Its abdomen was extremely long, and its tail was still continuously producing insect eggs.
But Ian's electromagnetic cannon hit him accurately and his whole body was blown into two pieces.
The insect queen let out an earth-shattering howl.
Buzz buzz buzz—all the insects rushed over here, while the insects spreading on the black tower in the distance quickly faded away.
"Turn on the camouflage system, everyone retreat!" Ian's expression was still cold and serious, but his hands moved swiftly, and the swung lightsaber instantly broke the dying insect queen into countless pieces.
"Marshal! We will cover your retreat, you leave quickly!" The sentries surrounded Ian.
But he was dismissed by the cold man.
His protective gear had been corroded by the insect mother's acid, and holes had been eroded in his arms, chest and abdomen.
The hallucinations and pain brought by the acid followed one after another, which was worse than he had imagined.
And if we don't evacuate immediately, the Zerg army will tear everyone here to pieces for the Zerg Queen.
"Everyone, retreat immediately. This is an order." The man's deep voice was loud and clear.
Minimizing casualties and protecting more lives is the principle he always follows.
Even if the person who dies is yourself.
"But, Marshal—"
"Let's go."
"Marshal! Behind us!!"
A murderous intent came from behind Ian.
--when?
He immediately turned around to block.
With a clang, the lightsaber that could defend against thousands of Zergs instantly broke due to the opponent's attack.
"Ah, my attack was actually blocked by a human." The attacker's voice was casual and lazy.
Ian struggled to stand firm and saw the silver-haired boy standing in front of the insect mother's corpse. He casually stepped on the insect mother's still wriggling mouthparts and head, and crushed them.
"The smell of you," Ian heard the boy say slowly, "is really unpleasant."
Before the boy finished speaking, a gust of fierce wind came and Ian dodged it.
This made the boy tilt his head, revealing a bit of surprise.
"It's indeed an excellent nutrient." No wonder he smells like Qianzhi, it turns out he is the nutrient chosen by his sister.
Ian frowned. This young man was too strange and powerful.
He had to get all the boy's attention focused on him so that his team could evacuate quickly.
Ian threw away the broken sword in his hand and grasped the last pistol tightly:
"I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm your only opponent."
"Opponents?" The young man sneered, "You are just food."
Cui looked down at them condescendingly, waved his fingers lightly, and his body floated lightly into the air, while the insect mother's body was instantly annihilated with his snap of fingers.
"You are lucky that she chose you." The boy said coldly and disappeared into the air.
Ian watched the young man suddenly disappear in the air, and then maintained a defensive posture and waited for a while. After confirming that the murderous intent and the smell of the Zerg had disappeared, he suddenly half-knelt down.
"Marshal!" The sentries put down their weapons and ran towards the man with half-closed eyes.
There was chaos inside the fortress.
Fortunately, Bo Lan and the senior sentries arrived quickly and restored order.
However, Ian's sentries were still surrounding the highest-level treatment room.
"It was Admiral Gwen who saved us, but he hasn't woken up since he came back!" Seeing Bo Lan and the others coming, several sentinels acted like they saw a savior.
"Although the external injuries have been healed, the admiral's mental strength has been damaged, and he has also refused many spiritual comforts from the guides! Even the S-level guide was helpless!" One of the sentries was already in tears.
Bo Lan looked at the closed treatment room and asked, "Who's in there now?"
Several sentries looked at each other and replied, "It was Guide Brown. She said she would definitely wake Marshal Gwen up."
Alice felt that this was her last chance.
As long as she successfully appeases Marshal Gwen, she will become a hero to the entire Ninth District.
Even though the man in front of her was asleep, he was still so handsome that she couldn't take her eyes off him.
The girl bit her bleeding lips and extended her mental power again.
Although Marshal Gwen's mental power had just rejected her, it didn't matter.
She is the best guide in this fortress except for the S-level guide.
Just try a few more times and you will definitely be able to soothe him successfully.
But the next moment, her mental power was instantly bounced back.
The man in front of her built a solid invisible wall, completely isolating her mental power from outside.
"It's all right," Alice said to herself, with a twisted smile. "Try again."
Once, twice, ten times.
She failed in all of them.
"Damn it," she finally collapsed, losing her patience and reason. She grabbed her hair, and her mental power transformed into a sharp bird beak, rushing towards Ian viciously, "Damn it, damn it, damn it!"
"So what if you're a marshal! You're just a sentry who can be discarded at any time! How can you refuse a distinguished guide!" She screamed and angrily threw her arms at the man on the bed.
At this moment, the door slammed open.
